I've wanted one of these for years, and I finally got one.My dad has had the same one, but the older model, for about 20 years and it holds up perfect. He used it on job sites building houses and I do hobby construction, so I know this will last me for decades. With the exception of user error, this saw enables you to make precise and accurate cuts time and time again at virtually any angle you may need.I was very surprised to see that this is also significantly quieter than my circular saw, which is weird, as the blade and motor of this miter saw is significantly larger.Stop having the hardware store cut everything for you, and losing a half inch of your board in the process from their massive saw.Do yourself a favor. Dewalt claims that this saw can cut up to 5.5" high for taller baseboads etc. Well, that is only partially true. You can't insert a long baseboard piece of 5.25" and expect this saw to cut it vertically in the middle of a 12 ft stick. The saw simply can't do it because the motor is not offset and will hit the baseboard preventing the blade from cutting all the way through. The ONLY way to cut vertically all the way through a 5.25" baseboard is to insert the baseboard into the saw from the left of the blade and leave no more than 3-4" of baseboard to the right of the blade. In order to cut a long stick of baseboard you must lay the baseboard flat, make the cut flat, then stand the base board vertical and make the 45 degree cuts. The instructions are very clear on this and I had I known, I would not have bought this saw. Other drawbacks....if you are cutting anything larger than 5" high you have to hold up the blade guard with your finger to be able to make the cut....massive pain in the rear and poor engineering on Delwalt's part. Dust collection on this unit is abysmal as well....might as well not even have the bag.

I bought it at Amazon on sale for under $200, using my "credit" built up, I paid just $27.69So, the saw cuts perfectly for my home projects, nice square cuts EVERY TIME.Only small feature that I would've love to have is the adjustable cut depth, since my "cheap" table saw don't have dado blade provision.Regardless of this shortcoming, I recommend this saw for basic wood working projects for beginner like myself.Cuts through 4"×4" like "butter"Built my 1st woodworking table using mostly this saw and I think it came out great for a 1st time build.Sure, this model is outdated and discontinued but, it still cuts great, that's what the saw supposed to do, right?

I bought this Saw about a month ago and so far I'm loving it. It's definitely a step up from using a hand saw and miter box.The 12" blade may have been a bit over kill for my uses, but I wanted something that I could grow into as I became more experience with woodworking. My first project was to build a miter saw work stand that would fit on a couple of saw horses. Then I decided I wanted to place that on its on rolling cart so I could move it around the garage "shop" easier, so that was the immediate next project. This Saw had made my projects much easier to work on, and I've already completed some nice outdoor furniture pieces. The blade doesn't appear to deflect any, makes cuts though 2x8's easily in one chop. I have cut some 1x10's and 1x12's, I just had to flip the board over to finish the cuts. The angle is easy to set and has several positive stops on the most common angles used. The one thing that has caused me a little confusion is that the bolt securing the blade is reverse thread. One just had to watch that when switching blades so that they don't over tighten and brake the bolt when they mean to be loosening it. Or, stand there trying to get the bolt started for several seconds by twisting the wrong way (guilty).Overall sends to be a good sturdy saw. Hopefully will last me for quite a while.
I built a She Shed for Girlfriend to store lots of junk(?). I have never built anything before, I joke I took "handyman" out of my spell checker I am so bad. At start I made one cut with a hand circular saw and I could see even that simple cut wasn't really square. Decided I needed a fixed saw and so I purchased this miter saw. After making just a couple of cuts and knowing they were square and clean I could literally feel confident that I actually could build her a nice She Shed. I built it in my garage initially and then took it apart in base and four walls and friend helped me transport and reassemble on post supports to match deck on house. I am really amazed at how well it turned out and the girlfriend is really happy that she now has a place to store all of ... MoreI built a She Shed for Girlfriend to store lots of junk(?). I am really amazed at how well it turned out and the girlfriend is really happy that she now has a place to store all of her valuable(?) items in. There were cheaper saws at Lowe's but I just liked the look and feel of the DeWalt and I already had several other excellent DeWalt tools so I spent the extra money to make sure I had a good quality tool. It was definitely money well spent!
Rating this saw low for two critical misleading specs and one is a safety issue.1. Although you can cut 5.5" material, you cannot cut when turning to the right else the material will hit the motor housing.2. Safety issue: When cutting material that is about 5" vertically, you have to retract the blade guard manually, else it will hot the material. This is yet another step while cutting which is a safety hazard. While retracting the saw blade, you cannot let go else will impact the cut so you have to press down and feel that the guard to catch up to the cut and then you can let go of the guard.3. Forget about stopping a cut mid way through a cut because the kickback on the motor dips the cut down like half inch.I was not impressed even for sale price.
This is my first miter saw and for that matter one of my first power tools. I had no idea how they worked but within 15-20 minutes of reading the literature I felt confident enough to give it a try. I was cutting boards for the walkway out to my boathouse, there's about 200 at 2x8x8. With the miter saw and accompanying stand it was so easy. I am definitely glad I purchased the stand and saw together. This was a great purchase.
I've owned a Dewalt grinder about 5 years. It's really amazing. I needed a miter saw to install baseboards in a project.I got this reference because it cuts 5 1/2 in base vertically, but it is not real, the motor doesn't permit to complete the whole cut, you need turn the piece to complete the cut, . That specification determined my purchase, but I was disappointed with this saw. My disappointment increased when I made my first 45 o cut., the blade cut the yellow guide . I fell really sad with this wonderful brand. I wasted time and I'm going to return this machine.
After trying 2 Craftsman, 1 Hitachi and another DeWalt I settled on this one. Like the others, this one is not perfect but, its better than the others. Some of the castings are poor and jagged. The left side fence attachment does not lock down square with the lower fixed unit. Example: using a square; referece from the lower face and there is a significant gap on the portion that slides. The blade was not plumb to the table, the fence was not square to the blade....all this had to be adjusted. The adjustments were all easy but, I bought a simple DeWalt saw......that would be great for a DIYr to cut framing 2x4s; NOWHERE near close for trim work. If you are counting; this was my 5th saw from Lowes that should have gone back like the others but, I was tired of wasting ... MoreAfter trying 2 Craftsman, 1 Hitachi and another DeWalt I settled on this one. If you are counting; this was my 5th saw from Lowes that should have gone back like the others but, I was tired of wasting time and figured I could adjust some of the poor QC out of it. Last thing; the blade cuts a much wider swath than it is thick; this can only be 2 things: a wobbly blade or a bad arbor. If I learn its the arbor, the saw will go back and a Delta or Bosch will have a new home. Its really sad all these companies use China and their Chinesiam metal to make tools; there is a LOT of garbage out there.....
I got this to replace my DW705 of more than 20yrs. The armature finally gave out, and can't be fixed. The fit and finish of the DWS715 out of the box is nice: polished table, rotations are smooth, the material clamp and dust bag are a bonus. Maybe I got a dud, but for me the goodness ends there. This is definitely not what I expect from DeWalt. The trigger feels cheap. The arm spring is not heavy enough to combat the torque of the motor. The first time I turned it on sparks flew out of the motor housing and it glowed through the plastic from inside. The blade bowed when cutting through a pine 1x4, to the point it cut into the side of the plastic plate at the bottom. The resulting "cut" was curved. This saw is dangerous, and a real black mark on the DeWalt reputation.
