The 5-inch Variable-Speed Random Orbital Sander comes with a hook-and-loop pad to make changing sanding sheets simple. This random orbit sander has a powerful 3-amp motor that delivers between 8,000 and 12,000 OPM. The separate counterweight reduces vibration while the rubber overmold grip provides comfortable sanding. A low-profile design allows users to get closer to the worksurface and the one-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the power sander to aid in dust collection, or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors.

A great replacement tool for my tool box

I soon discovered that the additional pads were not really needed, but I have them for my next job in a weeks time. The dust extraction and collection is very efficient and the quick release system of the collection bag means that dust does not get spilt everywhere. I also like the fact that the dust collection bag can be washed - though I could not find advice to that fact in the instructions. Awesome performance! Highly recommend this DeWalt sander!

I have one of those outdoor wooden garden benches with the iron metal sides. Over the years, the wooden slats took a beating and the stain and finish were pretty much gone, despite storing it in the shed before the snow hit. I had a palm sander I was using to take off the finish, but it proved to be more than a chore, as it was not only making my body sore using it, but also not being very effective at removing the old finish, despite the different types of sandpaper I was using. After everyone saying that a random orbital sander was worlds better, I looked at different models and checked out this one at Home Depot. Everyone was right! It's night and day compared to my palm sander! It took the finish down to bare wood like nothing and made short work of every plank like nothing! The dust collection bag does a nice job of keeping the sawdust to a minimum and I wasn't sore afterwards like with my palm sander. It feels nice in my hand and is the right height and balance, unlike some I looked at that were taller and felt like they were gonna tip over every time I held them. What's also nice is the placement of the on/off switch. Another one I looked at had the buttons flush-mounted on the sides and it felt awkward pushing them in. I don't have very big fingers, and if I was having difficulty, I can imagine someone with bigger fingers having even more of an issue, especially if they're wearing gloves like I planned on doing. This DeWalt has the switch nicely on the front. I plan on using it to rough up the finish on my metal 4-tier shelf to repaint and also on my utility push cart to apply a spray-on truck bedliner. I have no regrets buying the one I chose!

I bought the DWE6423 a week ago because my Porter-Cable bit the dust, pun intended. My shop is set up with Dust Right quick connects on all the smaller tools. This tool has a connector that fits the Dewalt vac system which has a 1 1/4” connector within that Dewalt connector that LOOKS like it will fit, however since it is within the connector it is not large enough for the OD of the Dust Right connector. Now I am faced with changing over everything to the Dewalt system, using a pressure fit only or return the DWE6423. I do not like this sander enough to convert everything else to Dewalt’s standard, so the tool is going back, I’ll get another Porter-Cable sander that plays well with everything else!

DWE6423 Underperforms, good price, Easy to operate

Nicely constructed orbital sander power tool. Vibration and random orbital rotation will cause numbness, with needed downward pressure it will cause some muscle soreness when sanding for more than 30 minutes. It is highly recommended to task your project in the Garage, Basement, or Outdoors as dust goes everywhere. Proper Ventilation is required. Must wear a Respirator, nitrile gloves, goggles, hair net or hat, & old clothes for your health and protection. Use PPE. I do Not Recommend the DWE6423

Decent sander with poor dust extraction
18 June 2024

Not a bad sander. It does do a decent job sanding however it has like other reviews have pointed out it has a huge design flaw with regards to the dust extraction. The dust bag is absolutely useless, just nylon material, it has no hepa filter built inside meaning all the dust just falls through and leaks out of the bag. The other issues is the connection mechanism to clip bag onto the sander port is absolutely rubbish. On all 6 speeds, the bag will just fly off because its clipped on. The bag should of been lined with a hepa filter and have a screw option to screw the bag down.Truly poor design decisions from a well known brand and this was my first Dewalt sander,. I went with Dewalt thinking they were top shelf quality. It's relatively comfortable to use and vibration isn't too bad, not as comfortable to use as a mirka type sander where it fits the palm of your hand but the dust extration bag system is just simply awful.Dewalt should redesign it because the bag doesn't even collect dust 'dustless' and it doesn't even stay on. Who at Dewalt thought it was a good idea to make it 'clip' on is stupid because the pressure and air forced through the port just pushes it off, even more so at faster speeds.

Great sander. BUT..
31 May 2024

Ive owned this sander for about 9 months. Simply fantastic. Cant fault it except the power cord is way to thick and when its cold it is not flexible at all so it gets it the way. And the big one..the disk pad no longer grips the sandpaper like it used to. Ive taken great care to not run wornout sandpaper or use to much pressure. Done everthing to treat it right but now left with a sander that dosnt hold paper at all. replacement pads are $40 and Im not sure if its worth buying a new pad given how quickly the original lasted. Surely they should last longer than it did.

Not the dewalt quality I'm used to.
14 September 2024

The Milwaukee and dewalt fight usually fell to dewalt based on price and reviews. this orbital sander lasted less than a year and just had the brush box shear off. started to sound like a bearing going out but it was the magnet making contact with the copper contacts and grinding away. Things sanded with it a coffee table, 4 chairs, 1 table, a planter, and the entire cab of a 1995 f150. Got to the driver door and it failed. Last sander lasted 8 years. Hopefully this isn't a new trend of quality.

Professional refinished Dewalt guy - garbage sande
13 April 2024

First all my tools are yellow. I only run dewalt if I can help it. I bought this sander as a backup for a large timber refinishing job. Just to get me through if my 6x more expensive sanders need a break. That was a mistake this thing may as well be a sanding block. Its so insanely underpowered compared to other comparable sanders. It’s been used very lightly and the hook pad is already letting sandpaper fly. Extremely disappointed do better Dewalt

Purchased this for a kitchen counter resurfacing project, as well as some furniture restoration.I'm a DeWalt person for most power tools, largely because I've bought into the battery family for all the cordless things. I was looking at the cordless version, but the store was out at the time and I needed to make progress.I liked it quite a bit at first. I don't know if there's an accessory that replaces the bag, but the regular small hose doesn't really fit, it's a bit small. I tried a rubber coupler, but that ended up being too bulky, so I just shoved the hose in the end and let the suction hold it there. It worked most of the time, but it would get caught and pull out often enough to be annoying. There is also a clear-ish rubber o-ring sort of thing that is inside, and I managed to break it during a late night session. It's not a ready replacement available at the store, but I did find a black o-ring at the hardware store to replace it. I'm sure it doesn't have the same friction characteristics and probably affects the way it operates, but it will work for now.I may have been using it too aggressively.

Smooth and worth the price.
26 July 2023

Purchased for a waterski refinishing project. The skis are vintage 1960-early '70's and were covered in several layers of laquer. Conventional chemical strippers would not penetrate. I used a coarse sandpaper and sucessive uses of the chemical stripper. Finally, I used fine sandpaper to restore the smooth finish to the skis. The hook and loop surface holds the sandpaper well with no creep. The dust catcher worked very will with limited dust remaining on the piece. The switch is comfortable and intuitive. Probably the best feature was the limited vibration - my hand did not go numb like the cheap junk brands I've had before. Worth the extra money for a smooth tool that will do the work without using pressure.
