This Klein branded digital multimeter is a decent entry level or knockaround multimeter and will serve your needs for many years when handled caringly. This is a must have testing tool for not only at home use but for automobiles and in emergency situations can even be pressed into service at work. Excellent price point with user support on the Klein web site. Be advised this is a non-autoranging multimeter which means if not dialed in properly you risk toasting one of two internal fuses. While replacement fuses can be purchased from Klein it will pay to have at least a pair of these hard to locally source fuses on hand. Be sure and refrain from using non identical replacement fuses as these fuses are low amp fast blow fuses. In the event you lose or destroy this multimeter it will NOT break the bank due to its modest initial cost.

I bought this meter to replace an old analog. I used it four times and it no longer works. Tried to use the continuity tester, shut off by itself and no longer works. When I needed it most. Very sturdy product but apparently the internals are junk. I tried new batteries and nothing. Four uses and over $30 dollars. Over $7.50 per use. I bought this product because I always have been able to get quality at Home Depot, this was a big, pus ridden, thumbs down.

This is functionally a very nice meter. It does exactly what the specifications say it does and is probably great for most people especially if they never use the current features. Just be very careful not to blow either of the current fuses. They are specialty fuses and will run you $13 each, almost half the value of the meter. The 200mA jack is fused at exactly 200mA, so in reality you can't measure current close to 200mA without risking blowing this expensive fuse.

I buy Klein assuming longevity and reliability. This meter has failed on both accounts. After one year of good service, the meter is headed to the recycling. It currently it reads -213vac on the 600v scale, and -14.9v on the 200v scale, with no leads attached. Last time I used it I had funky readings too. Spurious results mean the tool cannot be trusted. Where the MM300 feels good and appears to be well build, please buy something better. This unit should not have the Klein name on it.
As an Electrical Engineer, I've used a great many voltmeters/multimeters during my career, from top-of-the- line units to the drugstore variety. This Klein MM300 Manual Ranging Meter is a very capable, solidly built meter with the basic capabilities needed for most “low voltage” (i.e. less than 600 volts) electrical work. Klein Tools builds tough units designed for field work, and this unit is a perfect example. It's not intended for engineering use - it's limited to measuring AC voltage (non-RMS), DC voltage, DC current (less than 10 amps), and resistance (Ohms) – but it's accurate and reliable. It has a “Data Hold” function to store the last reading, but is missing a backlight so readings in dim light are impossible – an unfortunate oversight in my opinion. It has a “Data Hold” function to store the last reading, but is missing a backlight so readings in dim light are impossible – an unfortunate oversight in my opinion. It includes a set of Red/Black 36” cables with probe shields allowing safer measurement in a CAT III or CAT IV environment. The shields can easily be removed when working in a lower voltage (i.e. CAT II) environment. The tips can be stored in the same molded plastic housing used to store the complete probe when not in use, which is a good way to keep from losing the things. There is a flip-out panel on the back (part of the battery cover) that props the meter at a convenient angle for viewing, and the audible “Continuity check” is loud enough to be heard in all but the loudest work areas. The meter has no "Auto Power Off" function, to be sure to turn the unit off when not in use.The instruction manual is basic but complete, with only one discrepancy I can see. The manual instructs the user to insert the test leads into the input jacks until they are “flush with the meter's faceplate”. They even include a picture, and warn that failure to insert them properly may provide erractic measurement. Unfortunately, it is impossible to insert the leads that far, at least on my unit. They go in far enough to be secure, and the measurements I have taken have all been stable, but not as far as the instructions indicate. There are meters available that do much more for about the same price, but not with the robust quality of a Klein instrument. Klein also provides much more functional meters, albeit at much higher prices. For home/hobbyist or laboratory use, this may not be a good choice for a meter. For basic electrical field use, this is a tough meter to beat.
Great tool. I'm an industrial electrician and mechanic with 15+ years experience working on everything from motor controls to circuit board level components. Love the manual selection knob on this. This one is a tool that you can use exactly how you want it. (It'll measure ohms when you want to measure resistance, and volts when you want to measure volts). Not expensive, or complicated but gets the job done and works well.
Have had it bout week, usage, forgot, alot. Still kicking. No complaints... Basic limited features, as said on back of package what was expected. Works well, just what I needed for the little I need for... Sturdy, WELL BUILT, ez read display, and use LOVE THE ORANGE (KLEIN) can't miss it ... Put it this way no instructions included so easy, unless u don't know what ur doing. ALWAYZ YOU TUBEWill also purchase the MM400.RECOMMENDED PURCHASE WELL WORTH FOR THE PRICE!!!
I have had this multimeter scanner. However, the longer I have it, the more disappointed I am in it. The readings are confusing enough to be meaningless. If you check something that has a resistance of 8000 Ohms, for example, the display will say something like 0.80 and no setting will give you a display of 8000 Ohms. Consequently, you can't really trust any of the readings. You don't know if the circuit/wire is malfunctioning or the meter is displaying its confusing readings.Add to this, the fact that is doesn't come with any leads with alligator clips on one end, and this a multimeter you can't depend on.
This device is a versatile multi-meter with all the quality and function one could expect from such an affordable device.EXCEPT, the probe points are only designed to measure resistance, voltage or current when placed directly in contact with the conductor source. This makes checking outlet power sources difficult without adding Klein's outlet testing accessory a real pain in the "a," and not at all convenient. Unlike Ideal or Square D's Wiggy voltage testers, Klein's MM probe ends are not spring loaded and retractable. This is my only complaint.
I use this small volt meter in trouble shooting electronic and electrical circuits. It is a replacement for an old RCA meter that I have worn out the switch. Works very well and can be "Automatic" read and hold the reading. What I didn't like is the meter didn't have a case. So I ordered one and received it quickly and with no hassle.
