I bought this because the DJI mini 3 Pro is too fragile. Minor collisions are not an issue for the AVATA. In most cases the Avata will recover or go unnoticed when you gently collide with objects. The motion controller is simple and intuitive. My 7yr old was able to fly the simulator of the drone with ease and the sim is, in my opinion, more difficult than real flight. All around I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Overall its a good drone. Things i dont like- Low light image quality- Requiring phone for launching (Remote ID)- Does not connect with remote controller very well. It unbinds each time. Needs to rebind every time.- Batteries are a bit pricey.Things i like- Smooth footage after GyroFlow- Good range- Smallish footprint- Intuitive controls if you have flown mavicOverall, i would buy again.

Got this drone for the purpose of getting started with a cinewhoop to use in media production. While I am still training on a simulator for full acro flying, this drone allows me to get used to fundamentals of flying an FPV for filming. Definitely not meant for racing. I puchased this separately since I lucked-out in obtaining the DJI FPV remote as I didn't feel comfortable using the motion controller. The location of the SD card slot inside the prop guard is the only drawback so far, but the rest functions well.

I used this recently for a job at my local MX Park (check the attached video) for a guy that I got my custom electric bike from. This thing is all that’s needed for a great fpv experience while capturing video that’s more than enough for youtube, Instagram or anything else online!! I’m scared to fly it over water though, in case it decides to have a “yaw fit” and fall out of the sky but otherwise happy to use it until its last crash, whenever that might be.It’s worth the fear as I’m sure the solution will be out eventually.
As an advanced videography hobbyist, I love using professional equipment. This Avata drone is no exception. Not ever having used a video drone before, this has been a breeze to learn to fly and use. 4K Video is nothing less than stunning! Easy to use and to maneuver, this drone is perfect for my video needs. The new firmware upgrade to this drone has been widely criticized, but aside from having your phone connected while you fly, the updates are really amazing. Using this drone with the available (free) Gyroflow software, your videos will be as smooth as silk. I use this drone with a 256gb SDXC card. One of the biggest complaints I have is accessing the SDXC card on the drone. Why DJI chose to put in with one of the propellers is beyond me. Removing the card is ... One of the biggest complaints I have is accessing the SDXC card on the drone. Why DJI chose to put in with one of the propellers is beyond me. Removing the card is best achieved by using a small pair of needle nosed pliars. It would be nice if DJI would consider moving the SDXC card slot to an easier-to-access position on the drone. I would recommend purchasing the Arzroic Battery Holder Protector Case for the DJI Goggles V2, so you don't have to deal with the cord running from the battery to the goggles. This device clips onto the headband of the goggles and keeps the cable out of the way. The flight controller is simple to use and works flawlessly. You will certainly want to buy the DJI Avata Fly More kit, along with a couple of extra batteries. I keep four of them charged all of the time. Do be aware that these drone batteries DO NOT retain their charge. Before you fly, you will want to charge them fully. Overall, this drone is well worth the investment and is an absolute blast to fly!
This thing is super fun. I really enjoy it a lot. However, I think it is unfortunate that DJI chose to dump off their extra stock of motion controllers in this combo. You have to order a real controller separately and they are impossible to get right now. Also, you're going to want at least 2 more batteries (so the fly more combo) if not 4 more batteries because they run out of juice quickly, as is normal in FPV. Realistically, if you want this product, you'll be into it for $2k. Again, its really fun, but DJI frustrates.
The Avata is a great entry drone into FPV flying. The only FPV drone with built-in sensors to assist the beginner from running into things while learning. The head tracking feature for the camera is a game changer to capture great video. The best features are the ability to change camera settings on the fly! The only things that I wish were different are the location of the memory card slot/computer connection is difficult to get to and the kit does not come with a USBC plug adapter.I took these photos of downtown OKC on the first day flying the drone. Night photos are difficult to take with a drone without getting blurred but this camera did a decent job and can be even better once I get the settings dialed in. Always quick shipping and great customer service ... MoreThe Avata is a great entry drone into FPV flying. The Avata is small, nimble and can go almost anywhere! Flight time is very good for a Cinewhoop. The Motion Controller is fun and intuitive, but you are going to want to get the FPV Controller to complete the experience. The Goggles 2 are fantastic, clear and offer great transmission. Yes, they could be more comfortable on your face, but there will be new foam arriving down the road to make them more comfortable. The plusses far outweigh the cons! Head-tracking is quite the experience! Highly recommended!
The #1 thing I don't like about the unit is, you have to have your phone plugged into the goggles to operate it or you will get a Remote ID Error. This has something to do with the FAA so it's not entirely DJI's fault. However, I need for DJI to quickly find a workaround for this because having all these cords dangling from your head is just too much. It's bad enough that the goggles do not have an internal battery. The motion controller often does not follow the motions of my hand, which is not a huge deal since I want the FPV controller anyways for a full manual flight. But for people who just want to casually fly, you are almost forced to spend an extra $200 on the FPV controller to have a safe flight. It's impossible to fly through tight spaces without it.
Frankly, I never thought I'd enjoy this little aircraft as much as I do. The buy was on a whim. I own most all of the DJI Prosumer drones. I can easily say that the Avata is the most fun I've had with any of my fleet. The drone can be parked in a shoebox, flown where no other drone can be flown with confidence. Keep in mind that I'm NOT an FPV pilot per se. That will change! I do own the big brother, the DJI FPV. Neither of these aircraft have been flown in Manual mode, yet. I feel that the Avata is the easiest way to learn to fly in Manual mode. Time will tell...The goggles are crystal clear (and a bit uncomfortable on my nose). They provide excellent line of sight range. I can say that I ran out of electrons BEFORE I ran out of miles. But range is NOT what this ... This aircraft is all about up close and personal with your subjects. Penetration through houses and forests has not been a problem as long as you stay within 3,000 feet or so (FCC).Highly recommended!
