I'm used to DJI shipping half-baked problems. I get it. But there are concerns with this product that go beyond its half-baked existence. When you have a pro product you're used to having extra buttons, controls and customization so you can make very very quick adjustments so you don't miss the shot. Compare the controls of a entry level Canon with an EOS R3. This system should be exactly that, based on its price.Instead you get an app where you have to make manual adjustments to each camera function, and the button between JPEG and JPEG+RAW are so close to each other that it can lead to errors. Changing aperture and shutter speed is a chore and slows down the shooting process tremendously. I decided the Cine was not worth it even though I enjoyed the controller. On the Fly More, the controller for a $3000 pro drone is a surprising joke, similar to when Apple got rid of all their slots and ports. The controller of the Mavic 2 Pro and the software allowed for quick adjustment of camera settings and in-flight switching. The controller of the Mavic 3 is the same as the... Mini 2!!!!Trying to change camera settings on your phone leads to many missed shots.I won't even mention the zoom lens. It's a novelty at best. What a huge disappointment and a big step back.Flight time and video quality are great. I mostly use it for stills. But most everything about this drone makes me miss the Mavic 2 Pro.

The main reason for the upgrade, aside from an upgrade being overdue, was to improve the quality of the photos and videos I create for clients. In that regard, the Mavic 3 Cine does not disappoint! The onboard SSD being able to record about 1 hour and 14 minutes of Adobe ProRes HQ @ 4k 60p in DLOG provides the video quality I was looking for! Although it would be nice to be able to record at Adobe ProRes (not HQ) for longer video storage. The 20 MP raw stills are also a welcome upgrade. The M3 handles very well and is a nice quiet drone compared to the Inspire. The RC Pro's all-in-one remote w/display makes this package a nice portable solution. Even though I'd like built-in display to be larger, the quality of the image makes up for it.Yes, I hesitated to buy ... MoreThe main reason for the upgrade, aside from an upgrade being overdue, was to improve the quality of the photos and videos I create for clients. So far, i am impressed, its a solid drone, with a lot to offer. If you hop onto You Tube for 30 seconds you can find hundreds of reviews that detail everything in a lot of detail, so I am just gonna skip all that jazz and give my impressions for what I care about as a working professional, and that is the image. The Good* pro res HQ, its a solid codec with a ton of flexibility, this is the real codec we have been waiting for!* a much cleaner image then the 2 pro, the blacks on the 2 pro tended to get either noisy in post or they got muddy, you couldn't pull much detail out of them, but the 3 fixes that, the dark parts of the image are completely gradable and the sensor is a lot less noisy. (although still a drone, so don't expect it to look as good as your ground cam)The Bad* Over sharpened, as of this moment, all the footage is a little over sharpened like something off a cell phone, I am hoping they will allow us to turn down the sharpening in a future software update, but for the time being, the footage is too sharp, and that adds a cheapness to an otherwise great image.*Shooting in 4k introduces tons of weird artifacts at the moment, again, possibly fixable in software, but for now, you can't actually shoot in 4K, you must shoot 5.1K to get a decent image. Not a huge deal, but over all, disappointing to see.Again, the drone flies like a dream, the batteries are awesome, its powerful, very smooth, over all super good, that being said, I honestly am hoping to be back here in a few months with a resounding update to my review with a 5 star rating, but at a full 5 grand for this drone, the image should not be over sharpened the way it is. The number one thing with a drone targeted at pros is image, and right now it needs a tiny, itty bitty little bit of work to make it great, crossing my fingers its an easy fix that DJI has coming soon :-)
We bought this to cover a live feed for a kayaking competition. We'll continue to use it as part of our fleet for projects that require aerial images and video. Battery life is phenomenal! There was another crew with an Inspire 2 (which we normally would have flown) doing event footage. They went through 3 sets of batteries for every one of ours!Image quality is also excellent. It was so nice being able to hook up a mini HDMI to the controller to get a clean HDMI feed for the broadcast. (Make sure you get a mini HDMI to HDMI adapter!)The APAS system is a little hard to get used to! It really will just fly around stuff on its own which can be unnerving if you've ever crashed another drone. We had one line where we were out of position and a tree was hanging into the river on the left. The Mavic 3 just went around and we didn't lose our $5000 investment!I wish the focal length was a little closer to 35mm so shots don't look like every other aerial out there. Since the sensor is 5.1K, you can zoom a bit to make up for it and still capture a nice 4K image. If we had another two batteries (five total) and dedicated charger, we could have flown all day with breaks only to swap batteries.
I've owned every DJI Phantom and Mavic (also Inspire 2 and DJI FPV), I paid about $5,000 for Cine combo and additional $600 for DJI Care.Without a doubt this is the worst bang for your buck DJI drone in recent years. The only advantages include:1) Flight time (Definitely not 46min but about 6min more than Mavic 2 Pro)2) DJI RC Pro (overpriced at $1,200 but enough nits for sunlight flights with decent range)There is almost no discernible difference between H.264 / H.265 and ProRes, trust me.. you might be able to push the content a tiny bit further in post but it's marginal at best.I'm professional user and I can tell you with certainty the vast, vast majority of users would be far better off buying Mavic Air 2S, that's far better value for money and if I ... MoreI've owned every DJI Phantom and Mavic (also Inspire 2 and DJI FPV), I paid about $5,000 for Cine combo and additional $600 for DJI Care.Without a doubt this is the worst bang for your buck DJI drone in recent years. Not even API or mechanical shutter... :(Anyway, that's my 2 cents
I believe the Mavic 3 marks a new era for prosumer drones as a whole. The larger sensor size really does make a visible difference in the quality of my images and videos, and the tele camera (though not perfect) is a very welcome addition in my opinion. My only issues with this drone so far is not having some features I was used to on my Phantom 4 Pro. Specifically, being able to set my point of interest using the GPS is a feature I miss a lot, and not having true waypoints is a bit of a bummer. I also don't love the fact that I can't automate my flights using a 3rd party app like Drone Deploy.Another small gripe I have with this drone is its responsiveness when it comes to my custom buttons on the controller. My custom buttons seem to lag when pressing them and executing the function. For example, I press the custom function button (which is paired to tilting the gimbal forward or directly downward), and maybe 3 seconds later the gimbal moves forward or downward. Same behavior when I double press the custom button (set to switch between the main camera and tele camera). It takes just a bit too long for my liking.I very much so enjoy the 3 batteries the fly more bundle comes with, as well as the bag it comes with. Everything fits perfectly in it, and there's even a little more room for other things I like to keep with my drone like my part 107 license and SD card caseOverall, great product, and I am very impressed.
With a $1000 markup from the Mavic 2 Pro, DJI seems to be pricing this drone as a truly 'Pro' photographic tool. However, after a couple weeks of using it, I can say it's just not there. When compared to the Mavic 2 Pro, it features much better battery life, and a significantly cleaner image in low light, and it's slightly more quiet. But the improvements end there. It's slightly larger, requiring more space in the bag/case. The remote is the same 'toy' remote that ships with the entry level Mavic Mini, and has no information display like the Mavic 2 Pro has. Worse of all, it uses the same slimmed down app that the Mavic Mini uses, DJI 'Fly'. This app is significantly more clean in it's layout but is also much more limited and tedious for changing common settings. Every change of settings requires several taps. And worst of all, the tools for exposing D-log (the professional video color profile) are all broken. The 'Color Display Assist' grossly underexposes the image; The histogram is affected when using Color Display Assist; and Zebras, used for knowing overexposure, simply don't work in D-Log. This is just an overpriced toy, as shown in how DJI ships it with a cheap remote and an underpowered app.
While this may be a bit subjective, the Mavic 3 is definitely shows improvements over the Mavic 2. The price is steep for sure but with the Cine version when you add up the Pro controller and internal SSD drive the price difference over the non-Cine version is somewhat understandable. Now the overall price increase for the Mavic 3 line of drones is debatable. What I do like and it depends on how you use your Mavic, for me it is for business, and the improved main camera with larger sensor and internal storage is worth it. The overall fly performance of the drone is a solid improvement, more stable, responsive and longer flight time albeit not the advertised flight time that DJI is claiming, all make this drone a stand out in it's new class of Pro/Prosumer. The Pro Controller is fantastic, no more cables or cumbersome tablet brackets to deal with. The screen is also fantastic, though I would prefer a bit larger screen and the previous software/interface for controlling the Mavic. The Mavic 3 is no longer a drone for "recreational" flyers unless you can afford the best.
Upon first glimpse, this Mavic seems to come up short. It looks a bit clunky in the teasers and there's something amiss with that strange looking camera. What, two cameras in one? And then there were all the unhappiness in review land. The first thing not to like was the price. And the second was that it would not work with the smart controller! But as time passed, those with the longer view were giving Mavic 3 more than a passing glance. Some of the reviews were going into a deeper look. About this time, I decided to make the plunge. The Mavic arrived quick as promised and very well packaged. The Fly More Combo certainly seems a must with the extra batteries and kit bag (although, certainly, no matter ow good it is and it is really good, you paid for it). The Mavic arrived quick as promised and very well packaged. The Fly More Combo certainly seems a must with the extra batteries and kit bag (although, certainly, no matter ow good it is and it is really good, you paid for it). There are enough spare props to start a prop farm. The familiar Mavic Air 2 nd Mini 2 controller seems almost too little for the Mavic 3, but once it is in your hands and paired with the iPad Mini 4, all seems quite adequate. And the best for last... once the image appears on the screen, it is impressive. You got what you asked for is what comes to mind once the Mavic 3 is in the air and then, at the last, you see the first still images and video on a UHD monitor. All together, the Mavic 3, after first flights, is both a familiar and a great new experience. It is really very quiet. The larger than ever before props give it a new look and the performance very certain. The batteries evoke confidence. You may never need the third battery but it's there just in case. It was not very nice to have this go out the door without the complete software suite but it was nice just the same to have in hand a little early. The overall fit and finish of the Mavic 3 is as good or better than M2P. The feel is assuring and the darker gray and black give it a modern styling. Those larger props do protrude so handling it has to be ore cautious. And then the new wrap around protective cover that has reviewers talking does actually protect both the camera, gimbal and the props. Going into or out of the travel bag pocket is quick and easy. The fly app is easy to use, the controller, even having to use with an iPad Mini 4, is quite good. Retrofitting this to work in firmware with the smart controller would be an immense 'gift' to those who took the leap for both of these products. For now, it seems almost the wait. The Mavic 3, so far, seems to be a great leap forward in imaging capability. I am not yet a fan of the telephoto buddy camera. The main pole in the tent here is the MFT camera and what it promises to deliver. The larger sensor seems to be better in good to great light. the colors were natural. How good the lens is is yet to be fully determined. The bar was set quite high by M2P. Should future firmware be refined, somehow, to really cinch the difference , this will be a great leap forward. The initial handful of photos are a little better than the M2P (which tended to be really good). It's too early yet to report on the degree of difference, but they looked great on the iPad Mini 4 and even better on the UHD monitor right off the memory card. I didn't feel the need to peep the pixels. It just looked very good to my eye. In summary, my recommendation is to read all the reviews you can find, watch some of the footage on YouTube, and draw your own conclusion. Trusted sources promised a worthwhile experience. And for me, the icing on the cake was the first results. DJI however, owes a debt to it's fanbase: make up for the inability to use the smart controller and find a way to better integrate the telephoto camera so that it is more than useful but seamlessly necessary. Otherwise, this the future has arrived and it's looking and feeling pretty darn good so far. There seem s to be only one catch. The competition is also looking very good! The race is on and let the best win. Mavic 3 is decidedly a good choice. And a big hand goes out to B&H who did a great job on sourcing and shipping this bundle to me. A brief word on the star rating. I held back a star only because this is really just an initial review. The next several months ought to be the proof of whether it earns the top rating. I don't hold any significant doubts that it won't.
