The DJI Fly app is free to download and is necessary to control the drone, however, the app is only compatible with a handful of phone models. Easily fitting into tight spaces like your jacket pocket, and not needing to be registered since its under the 250g weight limit, it is the most convenient portable drone that you can probably get which gives you a lot more freedom if your out shooting. Its up to you to decide which to choose. However, if your just looking at the budget 2 because its right at the maximum of your budget, and you know youll photograph and travel often, it will be a solid investment. I do recommend getting the fly more combo though, well worth the money.

Drone with worthwhile Fly More kit arrived with defect: MicroSD drive did not work, and card got stuck. Factory fixed the problem but original card was ruined in the process. This amazing drone then survived two horrific, learning-curve crashes into the woods totally intact (Find My Drone function helped me retrieve it), before I got better at flying it. In Cinematic mode it is super-stable, like being up there on a stationary crane. Video quality is excellent. At first, auto takeoff and Return to Home didn't seem to work consistently, but did improve. Control is easy. This thing is very small and easy to lose sight of, but it proved reliably easy to keep track of, despite invisibility. The only downside I’ve found so far, after looking into other drone models is the minimal amount of sensors for surroundings while flying that act to avoid crashes. This model only comes with downward facing sensors which definitely helps with landings. Now, don’t get me wrong—I actually have not had any crashes at all thus far and I am a complete novice with flying drones. I’ve never owned one before and never had any experience flying anyone else’s either. That says a lot for the design and handling of this drone—it is obviously great for beginners. I would tack my ability to fly “so well” with it right out of the box to my years of playing video games when I was younger. There are two joysticks that handle different aspects of the flight controls and as long as one isn’t just stupid with it and uses some common sense (i.e. avoiding trees and power lines during ascents and descents in altitude) while flying them, and uses some caution at least in the beginning, it’s pretty funny proof. If you’re like me and hesitating to get this because of the price, I’d venture to say that it is an excellent price point for an entry level drone enthusiast and well worth the money.

It has the same top speed as the Phantom 3 A. Weighing in 2.5 pounds less it requires no registration. The video is excellent in 4k resolution which you can crop or downscale anytime you want. The same for the color rendition. With the exception of speed this uav even out performs the Phantom 4 series except the pro. The ability to charge the batteries through a usb c connection, the same as on most current phones, is definitely a plus. You can charge on the go in your car easily. This and a smart phone is needed before thr drone can be used. Ive had to re-install once as I couldn't use the app as a warning kept popping up saying that there was a bug. Dji release updates regularly but it's annoying considering the actual drone is useless without this app and the price of the drone.

As a first time drone purchaser and flyer, I was so awed and amazed by the performance, capabilities, and possibilities of my first drone flight that I was vibrating with excitement for hours and days afterwards, and am stoked still to this day, several weeks later.It is not super difficult to set up and get flying, but it will take some studying if it is your first drone purchase and experience, as it was for me, a dude just of retirement age. Should be no problem for a yung person though. I downloaded the app directly from dji, as it has everything you need to fly, map, document, and learn from. From my age and perspective, initially I felt that the app and all of its instructions and requirements were a tad heavy-handed, and I wondered if I had made a mistake and purchased more drone than I was really ready for, but I powered through the experience and came to realize that this dji mini 2 was the real deal, and a great beginner drone for those who feel like they want more than just a backyard toy. I could easily see myself graduating to a bigger unit if necessary, sitting for the Part 107 certification, and making money as a part time freelance certified drone pilot.The photos and videos that the dji mini 2 takes are just absolutely stunning! I was blown away by the quality and clarity. I actually took all videos by accident my first time out, but was able to obtain stills from the videos, and even the hacked stills were amazing.In my opinion though, and from one who studies technical writing, I must say that I found the manual and quick start card a little capricious in form and nature, and the video tutorials kind of different from what I was used to here in the States, but once I got past that and dialed all the way in, I was mesmerized by the dedication to quality, professionalism, and excellence by the manufacturers at dji. It is a really good product, and might be "called" a mini, but the results are maximal.And one last testament to the power and professionalism of the unit and the accompanying app - I stopped at a field I knew from years prior, not knowing anything yet about airspace restrictions and found myself in Class C airspace. Once I set up and turned on my gps coordinates, the app actually communicated in real time with the airport control tower across the river from where I was, requested and received a 50 ft. height restriction for me, but requiring me to make a yes or no decision to fly or not, enter and send my mobile number, agree to receive a verification code, and send that correct code back to the control tower - all in a five minute time window! Talk about an unexpected adrenaline rush...and then I took flight and got the most incredible footage I EVER got in my 62 years.Wow!!!
I received this as a gift and I could not be happier. After owning several helicopters, this drone is so much easier to control. It’s very stable and the camera is amazing. The gimbal provides stable video at up to 4K with 2X optical zoom. I’ve had it up to 500ft (the ceiling height allowed in my general area by the FAA) and have controlled it almost 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) away. The controller has a signal indicator letting you know if your connection to the drone is getting weak and it stayed strong even at that distance. Camera video also seemed pretty flawless on my phone connected to the controller. Very pleased with this drone overall. I would recommend getting the kit with extra batteries though. BONUS: If you want to fly at night make sure to add a Lume Cube (see picture of drone) to your drone to stay legal at night since the light on the drone does not meet FCC specs for drone night use. Also be aware that this drone does NOT come with night vision on the camera, but the CMOS sensor IS high enough quality to give decent video in the presence of artificial light (city lights) and full moon light. Don’t expect much of anything though if you are in a pitch dark environment.
