I'd love it more if it was covered in a foam or padded exterior but the textured rubber is not too bad in the hand. It comes with three "extreme" batteries, a protective case for the camera, two rubber lens protectors for safety, two quick connect adapters with screws for each, a USB type C charge cord, and a flat adhesive mount, as well as the camera itself. The camera does shoot 4k video but for the price I would think it'd shoot better than a 12 megapixel picture with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. And the only focus mode is automatic. Most peoples cell phones outdo that now (megapixel wise). And the only focus mode is automatic. Most peoples cell phones outdo that now (megapixel wise). I do love the fact that it's touchscreen and has screens on both front and back. It's waterproof too, to a quoted 52 feet below water. You can also use microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC for expanded internal memory. It is also Bluetooth and WiFi enabled. One thing to note as well when I was reading it says that its operating temperature minimum is -4 degrees Fahrenheit to a maximum of 113 degrees Fahrenheit. So I know this from living in Las Vegas haha that fairly often in the summer time you'll see above that and then some which might be an issue for some because In Arizona and Nevada a lot of adventurers go hiking for the scenic spots especially the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon to name a few.One of the biggest issues I have with this camera and setup was that the necessary app cannot be downloaded for android from the Google Play store, you must scan the QR code on the back of the box and then download the APK app for android users. Now most won't even know what an APK app is but it's an external app and to even download it and put it on your phone, you have to go into your settings and change it under "install unknown apps". It then warns you that installing apps from this type of source may put your phone and data at risk because it is not screened for safety like apps are on the Google Play store. By definition "An application is a mini software that can be installed on any platform whether it be Android, Windows or iOS whereas Apk files can be installed only on Android systems. Applications directly install on any device however, Apk files have to be installed as an app after downloading it from any reliable source." In my opinion DJI who has more than one app for their drones on the Google Play store should definitely have one available for these cameras as well so that someone doesn't have to risk turning off safety features to download their app.Overall the video and all of the features and functions of the camera worked flawless for me. It's a really nice "complete" set for what you're paying. I would definitely recommend to others

The DJI Action 3 is a very good camera with a price that makes it an excellent value. While it may not quite compete with GoPro's new model, it matches or comes close to many of its features, with a significantly lower cost of entry. In some areas it outperforms its competitors, bettering it in water (up to 16m without a case) and temperature resistance, as well as offering a slightly wider field of view (FoV).There are a couple of handy features I liked, such as being able to use it as a webcam. Plug it in to a USB on your PC and it will ask if you want to transfer files or use it as a webcam. The Osmo Action 3 also supports Wi-Fi livestream @ 1080p/30 fps. The Action 3 also features dual touch screens and the interface is easy to use. The interface operation was smooth with no screen lag. Using DJI's Mimo app allows you to adjust everything from your phone or use it for remote operation. The version reviewed here is the Adventure Combo, which add two additional 'Extreme Batteries', a very convenient 'Multifunctional Batter Case' which stores and charges three batteries (and is shaped like a granola bar so it fits easily in your pocket), a 1.5 extension rod. DJI claims the batteries offer 160 min max battery life with 150m life in temps as low as -20° F. Unfortunately, the 'Multifunctional Battery Case' does not come with a charger, and my phone's charger was not up to the task of charging the batteries fully. DJI recommends their 3.0w charger.Video quality was very good overall, though it is a little lacking in low-light conditions, but in fairness it's competition isn't much better, if at all. The Action 3's RockSteady and HorizonBalancing stabilization both produce smooth video from aggressive action such as mountain biking. The default color balance and contrast were very good, and for the most part audio was clear from it's three microphones, though wind noise can creep in.Overall the DJI Osmo Action 3 offers very good value, doing an impressive job of recording video at reasonable cost of entry. The stabilization features are excellent, the water resistance impressive, and the cold performance is important as I like to record while skiing, where temperatures can degrade battery life. I also appreciate that it doesn't spam me with subscription offers like my other action cam.

GoPro makes cameras that are truly versatile and outstanding and the company has established itself as the one to beat in the realm of action/lifestyle cameras.GoPro is, obviously, the one to beat!GoPro has years of experience on their side to support increasingly capable cameras, but DJI has been making astounding drones with phenomenal image stabilization and “content creation” cameras and DJI’s production provides them with a wealth of creative support at their disposal that absolutely would prohibit a lesser company from offering a camera like this to compete with one known giant. And DJI did not come to play. The Osmo3 has a better/larger sensor than the GoPros, is waterproof to a greater depth, and has been showing me MUCH better battery life. And, in an interesting flex, while cameras from both companies sport front and rear image viewing screens, only the Osmo3 has touchscreen navigation on the FRONT screen as well as on the real screen – astounding. In terms of relative feature differences, the GoPro HERO11 only has a couple options that exceed the capabilities of DJI’s Osmo3: the GoPro can take video at 5.3K at 30fps (the Osmo3 maxes out at 4K – both cameras can capture 4K at 120fps), and the GoPro can capture 8x slow motion video at 2.7K / 240fps (the Osmo3 can only capture 8x slow motion video at 1080P – but can capture 4x slow motion video at 2.7K).DJI and GoPro use different types of image stabilization technology – both are incredible. I prefer DJI’s result.Small deviations in technology aside, I had a SIGNIFICANT problem getting my DJI Osmo3 camera up and running for evaluation. Basically, after five powers-on, the camera will not continue to function until the firmware is updated - and the firmware can only be updated by connection through a smartphone. Apparently, there was a problem either with the firmware that the camera was shipped with or with the app that is available for Android devices or both (I believe it was both). I was testing the camera using my Google Pixel 4XL smartphone and the DJI app could not locate the Osmo3 camera. After many attempts (and disastrous interactions with DJI customer support!!), I tried a crazy workaround - I installed the DJI iOS app on my old iPod Touch and was able to connect to the camera and update the firmware immediately and continue evaluating the camera. Then, once the firmware was updated, my Android app was miraculously able to identify the camera. My informed guess is that DJI rushed the Osmo3 out to evaluation so it could compete in real time with the release of the GoPro HERO11 camera. I got an early version of the camera to review so I hope that this camera is being shipped with improved firmware that will avert such a crisis. But I’m concerned that quality control at DJI didn’t catch such a glaring problem prior to sending it out for review – seems like bad business for a company that is not known for shipping out products with poor review.Final notes: (1) The battery life for the Osmo3 is astonishing – they claim a maximum usage time of 2.5 hours under ideal conditions and settings, but my own experiences with standard video at 30fps have allowed me working times that truly approach 2 hours! (2) This creator kit comes with THREE batteries in a charging case that accommodates all three batteries – their combined high performance shooting time is incredible. Also, FWIW, a depleted battery can be charged to 80% capacity in the camera in 18 minutes. (3) The mounting hardware design for the Osmo3 is the same as the design on the GoPro cameras so peripheral mounts are interchangeable. GoPro cameras utilize flip-down mounts that are part of the base camera, the DJI cameras us a magnetic quick-release mount that attaches and detaches from the base camera. (4) This kit includes a sturdy grip mount that extends out to a length of 5 feet. In the DJI Mimo app, you can use their AI to remove the stick from selfie videos to give the appearance of being filmed externally by a professional. & (5) Be forewarned that super slow motion video is VERY taxing to this camera (and to the GoPro cameras as well) – this camera can get extremely hot in extreme slomo modes during extended sessions.DJI is pushing this base camera out at fully $100 less than the GoPro HERO11 base camera (as I write this). Assuming it ships to stores with better functioning firmware, then I think they have thrown down the gauntlet.Enthusiastically recommended!!

Good Quality Images, Lots of Handy Accessories

DJI’s next version of an action cam looks to take on the obvious juggernaut in the industry, and does a fairly good job, though with some definite limitations, but also so added features that their competitor doesn’t have. The camera is slightly smaller than its competitor, though nearly similar in weight. The lens is large and circular, and oddly and inexplicably exceeds the footprint of the overall camera itself, protruding beyond the left and top of the camera.Image quality is what you would expect of a DJI product. Crisp, clear images with very good stabilization, though did get some jitter when really bouncing it around while testing it out. Crisp, clear images with very good stabilization, though did get some jitter when really bouncing it around while testing it out. In terms of stabilization, I think they may have a little more work to do, but for most people with most activities, you’ll get really good, smooth images out of the camera.Video tops out at 4K, versus 5.3K in other cameras, but most of us using cams for videos are only uploading or processing in post at a 4K max since that’s what 99% of people are capped at, whether on their phones or TV, so this isn’t a negative, just worth mentioning.I like say I have a love-hate relationship with the accessory mount. The genius part is its magnetic+clip attachment. The clips bite into the camera & hold the mount and accessories on, while the magnet built into it helps guide it into place if you’re trying to change things around without looking directly at it. You can put the mount on the bottom (standard), or on the side for vertical video, but ONLY with the included camera frame attachment that you have to slide the camera into (and you’ll find there’s no reason not to put it in the frame & leave it – you lose no functionality by leaving it in place). Also, the mount, since it’s magnetic, only attaches on one way, and like 2 magnets being put together, it will push the mount away if it’s put on backwards. Probably could have made 1 side magnet and the other side a metal to avoid this. As an aside, the mounts are slightly larger than GoPro mounts, but are configured to work with non-DJI mounts just the same. The menus and options I think are easier to access & change than its competitor, with the added bonus that you can control the options from the front screen if you’re shooting selfie videos or cameras. The Action Combo comes with a load of accessories, including a couple of mounts, a long, 4-foot mounting pole if you’re using this while skiing or other activity where you want the camera further away from you. The DJI app has the ability to digitally remove the pole from your videos, though I did see where it would occasionally miss a few pixels when moving it around and you could see the pole for a brief second. But in terms of shooting far, wide shots, this was a great addition.Battery life blows away the competition. I was running over 1 hour of video per battery in an ice cold hockey rink (so there may have been some loss in capacity), and DJI claims you can get up to 160 minutes per battery, though I got nowhere near that, so presumably that’s with a variety of options changed in the settings, turning off LED displays, etc. I also appreciate that DJI (unlike others) included a battery charging bay and 3 batteries with this combo pack. Right out of the box, without any other purchases, you’re going to get about 90 minutes of shooting time per battery. As with any 4K level camera, make sure you’re selecting a proper SD card for the device. You’ll want the fastest card you can find, and DJI has a list of supported cards, though note that anything in the high speed range will work.Cons:Right out of the chute, I was turned off by the fact the official DJI Mimo app to control the camera was only available via direct download from DJI and not available in the app store (I’m on Android). The red flag here is that it’s not approved from Google, and moreover requires you to lower your security settings to allow untrusted apps (not downloaded from Google). Considering DJI’s headquarters location, this certainly is a concern, but if you want any level of live control over the camera or livestreaming capabilities, you’re forced to choose this app. Also, the app is different from the DJI Go app used for drones (which IS available from Google, oddly), so now I’m running 2 different DJI apps – one for my 2 drones and 1 for this camera. Would like to see them consolidate the apps together. There is a lot of talk in reviews & on user boards about focus issues and blurry images. That is indeed a problem, and I did notice the issue out of the box. HOWEVER, if you update the firmware to the current version, it appears to fix it, and all subsequent photos and videos have been crisp & clear. And the camera runs HOT. After a solid 90-minute shoot, the camera was noticeably (and almost concerningly) warm, and this was while shooting in an ice cold hockey rink. I haven’t had a chance to test it in the hot Texas sun yet, but imagine the added ambient heat will only add to the heat issues. Not sure if it’s the battery or the internals causing the temperature, but worries me about the long term life of the batteries. There is also no accessory options in terms of add-ons (external mic, external light, etc.). While the built-in mic isn’t bad, there’s no option for say a lav mic to record narration while you’re doing whatever activity you are doing. Would have liked to see a 3.5mm mic port on it.Summary:This really is a good camera, though there are certainly a handful of issues and features that could be improved. The requirement that you have to have the app (no choice) yet the app is unverified concerns me. The heating up of the camera is also a concern. But with those issues, the camera is a great option if you’re looking for a good, small camera that comes not only with features but helpful accessories right out of the box.

Great Action Camera all around.

I was looking for a camera to mount to my motorcycle helmet and this came across my path. I have to say at first, I was a little skeptical of the mounting system. Most of the time magnetic type mounts are great but with something that is going to see wind speeds of 70 miles an hour or more while riding down the highway, I must admit I was a little worried. All that worry though was for nothing, this mounting system they have is amazing the magnetic force helps line everything up and makes connecting the camera super easy and the two little side clips seem more than strong enough to hold everything in place even at speed. All that worry though was for nothing, this mounting system they have is amazing the magnetic force helps line everything up and makes connecting the camera super easy and the two little side clips seem more than strong enough to hold everything in place even at speed. I was pleasantly surprised that along with an amazing mounting system the video quality out of this camera is really good. Switching from high light to low light situations like you might see while driving down the road the camera did really good to change the exposure and keep everything nice and visible. Even when essentially staring directly at the sun (driving into the sun in the afternoon evening) it did a great job of maintaining the image quality and keeping most everything visible even if it wasn’t to me. Another great feature that I use way more than I thought I would, is the quick switch button on the side of the camera. I set up 3 different profiles for different use cases and being able to quickly switch between them even when I’m wearing gloves is very useful. I was also surprised by the quality of the audio even in the wind. Most action cameras are not known for their audio quality, but I have to say for walking around and just talking to the camera the audio is surprisingly usable, even in slightly windy conditions the camera does a great job of filtering out most of the excess noise you would normally hear. There are so many cool things about this camera that just work it’s hard to go through them all in a simple review but one thing I do want to bring up is the amazing battery life and system they have for charging those batteries with the Adventure combo. If you’re wondering if the combo is worth the little bit extra over just the camera I would 100% say yes almost solely because of the battery case and charging setup. The case that the three batteries you get in the combo come in is also the charger which is super convenient. But more than that it can also be used as a battery bank in those situations where your done filming for the day, but your phone needs a little juice. It’s super useful. As for battery life I was able to get over an hour and a half of continuous recording time without any problem, in fact I still had 35% battery remaining after that. I more than likely would have been able to get two full hours before even thinking about pulling another battery out of the case to swap. I’m super impressed with that as it means I can get a decent ride in before worrying about stopping to switch batteries over. If I had any gripes at all about the setup as a whole, it would only be that they don’t actually include a charging brick for the battery case. You must supply your own usb-c charger, but I guess that’s kind of the way the entire electronics industry has been going lately.Overall if you're in the market for an action camera this is a seriously good offering from DJI.

I've been using the DJI Osmo Action 3 camera with Adventure Combo for the past week, so far it's been horseback riding, hiking, ATV off-roading, and on a cross country run. Initial impression is that it holds up well, has more features than I'll likely ever use, photo quality is decent with some variability, the mounting options are secure, and the only thing I haven't been able to test out yet is the scuba diving mode.In the box is the camera, three batteries, battery charging case, usb-c charger, camera frame protector, two lens protectors, selfie stick, two quick release adaptor mounts, and an adhesive base mount. This Osmo Action 3 camera is waterproof up to 52' and boasts 12mp resolution, up to 4K video recording, 300 mm focal length, 16:9 aspect ratio and up to 240 fps in optimal conditions. The camera can be connected using either bluetooth or wifi, and utilizes the DJI app for editing and playback.Out of the box, setup of the camera is straight forward, with attaching the protectors, charging batteries, and mounting a high speed microSD card (not included, for this review I'm using a microSD rated up to 190MB/s read and 130 MB/s write which allows for 4k video). It gets a bit more convoluted when it comes to scanning the QR code to download the app. After a few attempts I was finally about to download the DJI Mimo app on my Android , note, after the fact I figured out I could search for "Osmo 3" and could find the link straight to the download page without any issues. The DJI app has some unique functionality. First the app can be used to directly pair with the camera, so you can view the camera footage directly to the phone, as well as control the camera via the app and/or livestream, this also applies to changing camera settings: set the camera mode, adjust ISO, shutter, EV, timer, FOV (standard / wide) toggle gridlines on/off, white balance, turn on overexposure notice, and show histogram. In addition you can edit the general settings such as format SD card, turn on voice controls, edit compression, wifi settings, and adjust anti-flicker. The downside to the app is that it feels like an attempt at DJI social media with constantly streaming adds for other DJI products, a "for you" section with video content from content creators, an entire section dedicated to Osmo Mobile 6, another one for DJI pocket. Overall I am not a fan of the mobile app user interface. There is also an AI editor, with numerous editing features and filters, but I prefer to work with other photo editing software versus being forced to work inside the app.Moving on, the camera is well built, light weight, and compact at approximately 3"x2"x1". Due to protrusion of the front lens beyond the body, I have some mild concerns that I'll scratch it in transit, but so far that hasn't happened. There is a touch screen on both the front and back, both are easy to operate and quick to respond. Battery life is fantastic for all day photos, and lasts at least an hour of continuous videoing. This is enhanced by having 3 batteries and a charging case that will simultaneously charge them all. The mount with side clips seems sturdy enough to keep the camera securely in place no matter the terrain. The included selfie stick extends just over 4', and the voice feature allows you to control the camera remotely. Ultimately lots of different mounting and placement options for any type of content you are trying to capture. My personal preference is a helmet mount, which is sold separately, but is by far the best viewing angle for both riding horses and atvs.As far as photo quality, it was a bit trial and error to figure out what settings yielded a crisp high resolution photo consistently. I did have some blurry photos, where I'm not sure I know what went wrong, but overall, after experimenting with the settings for each type of event (moving close up, still close up, moving far away, and still far away) I was able to dial in the settings and timing to take the crisp high res photos I expected. The horizon leveling and RockSteady features work better than expected and are essential for cross country riding. Overall, the camera seems to be able to go anywhere, do anything, and return vibrant images and videos.

Not just an action cam

There is a lot to like from DJI Osmo Action 3. I owned the Osmo Action 1 and series 3 is an improvement over an already very good action camera at the time. DJI decided to return to the typical form factor for action camera, which makes a lot of sense. This time around, 4K with lots of FPS is the norm. 4K TVs are very common these days and people like to watch their content in the glorious 4K resolution. They are all useful. When I got my action camera for the first time more than a decade ago, these are the accessories I was looking for to start taking video. The camera is waterproofed up to 52 feet, which makes this camera a must bring item every time we go to waterpark. Kids love underwater footage of themselves. The screen is good enough, nothing too special but both screen is touch operated. Access to menu is simple enough, will take a short moment to familiarize yourself with all the functions of the camera.Video and sound quality is great. You can take video in vertical mode like a mobile phone’s camera. This is a solid DJI product that enables your footage to shine in popular video sharing website such as Youtube. The Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is doing very good job of stabilizing the video and it supports horizon steady, which makes your clip as if it were being taken by a camera gimbal. The EIS works really well even when you run, which is awesome. DJI also has a plethora of accessories to choose from, including external microphone to boost audio quality of your clip. If you’re into drones, modifying a mount for the drone to carry the camera is not difficult. So, can you use this camera as a normal camera doing normal stuffs unrelating to sports or extreme actions? Absolutely, the field of view of the camera is adjustable to normal. If you’re considering getting an action camera, this bundle gives you quality accessories that you will use. Make sure to get decently fast memory card to get started.

Ready To Film Out Of The Box Within 15 Minutes

DJI makes some of my favorite grab-and-go cameras, and I had the opportunity to explore the DJI Osmo Action 3 vs the GoPro Hero11. While each action camera has its own strength, DJI wins hands-down in terms of grab-and-go readiness. The USB-C charging and included multi-battery charging case is easily slid inside a pocket or shoulder sling. The handle is a curiosity, as on the GoPro, they made the handle a battery, tripod, and controller for settings (presumably because whatever you were filming would preclude you from using the touch-screen interface). So while DJI is good for discrete chunks of action, the GoPro is probably better suited to "whatever happens just keep filming"-style ongoing stuff. That being said, DJI's Osmo offering is pretty darn slick. The different modes produce really good video, even in low-light situations, and the audio is surprisingly good to go with it. Do you get the all-weather versatility of the GoPro? Maybe... and it certainly had no issues working for me in the rain, with crazy wind, being held by kiddos riding skateboards.DJI has this almost magical methodology for capturing smooth video and in terms of capturing amazing video with minimal effort (and minimal attachments), they have the market cornered. Their software and touch-screen interfaces have some wonkiness to them - the connectivity on the DJI app is sometimes odd and the touchscreen is really hard to navigate and select the things you want especially while you're filming on the go/in the moment.Overall, though, DJI makes some of my favorite action cameras and my DJI Osmo Action 3 has earned its spot next to my DJI Pocket 2 - and if you're a content creator looking to do walk-and-talks, vlogs, or action shots, you've found your match.

Their claim of 160 hours is recording in 1080p but not sure who exactly still records in that low of a setting these days. While battery life is impressive, one of my favorite inclusions in this combo is the battery charging case - it’s so darn good! Again, the construction is very solid and isn’t cheap feeling at all. The case can hold 3 batteries with a very secure lid and it charges via USB C.Another thing I quite like about it are the magnetic mounts. Having used plenty of GoPros in the past, this is a huge plus for me where you can just quickly unclip the camera from the mount without having to unscrew it. For stuff like changing batteries or SD cards, this is super nice to have. For vertical mounting using the magnetic mount, you have to use the included cage which adds a vertical mount point. Sort of a bummer you have to use the camera cage to get this mounting option but what’s nice is that you can use both orientations with the cage. The selfie stick…um, holy cow it is WAY longer than you would expect! The selfie stick extends to nearly *5 feet long* from a collapsed length of 9 inches. That blew my mind. That amount of extension helps get the camera far away from you so you can get an even better perspective of you and your environment and just allows for lots of creativity. While many people may be considering a GoPro Hero 11 vs this Oslo Action 3, yes, the Hero 11 offers more features but is also more expensive. The price of this combo kit is about the same price as just the Hero 11 itself without any accessories. If you’re just considering the price of the cameras themselves, the Action 3 comes in over $100 cheaper than the Hero 11 while still offering plenty of features. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, this combo kit is definitely worth a look!

Ultimate Action Camera Package!

Unboxing and set up was simple and required you to download ANOTHER APP!.. But in short order I had all the updated completed and was able to continue unboxing the rest of the adventure combo items. The camera design is very GoPro-ish and follows a familiar fit and function BUT with some new tech baked in.Wins for DJI - Multi Function Battery Case - Quick Release magnetic mounts - Extension rod--The battery case is wicked convenient for all day adventures as it allows you to charge 3 batteries in succession and maintain charge as you hike/bike/drive to your destination! This is a serious win for action camera users! AND if you are in a tricky spot you can use the DJI batteries in the holder as a portable charger for additional USB devices. Bonus! Second win is the connection point to the camera and camera enclosure which provides options to mount to support both horizontal and vertical recordings. Lastly the extension rod, small form factor with rigid design to allow you some level of getting rad with feeling confident in both the camera connection and the extension pole quality and design.I would say the nitty gritty of video quality and more importantly stand alone audio capture in this action camera has come a long way. You can in a pinch utilize the audio capture but secondary audio capture is alway preferred when professional videos are your end goal.Battery life is exactly on point and shooting in high res formats delivered as expected. The added cold temp friendly batteries is a welcome change from past cameras because living in Wisconsin, we adventure year round and this includes wintertime adventures. The fact the batteries won't be impacted until temps get below -4 degrees is very reassuring that regardless of the weather and temperature you can rely on the camera to last the full battery duration.Touch screen and menus are simple to navigate and intuitive in nature. I really enjoyed seeing what other options are available and based on my experiences with DJI (Spark Drone and Mavic 3 Drone) have always been very happy with both hardware and software. There are tons of video comparisons available to do additional research on video quality if necessary but you won't be disappointed with this all in one package to get out and record your adventures. It's been cool to see how much technology has evolved in the action camera market!
