It’s brilliant. Just started some casual vlogs for fun. Sturdy with amazing battery life. Great for hikes and outdoor activities would highly recommend. I’ve attached a small video below to show the quality. Bear in mind it’s not a bright day, but still looks and sounds amazing!

Having purchased the DJI Osmo Action 4 from B&H last year, I look forward to the release of this new camera and ordered the day it was released. I appreciate the improved viewing screens, the better picture quality in both video and photo, as well as improved night photography. I will, shortly, be leaving on vacation and I am thankful that I have this camera to take with me for the inclement weather conditions that I am expecting.

Until DJI enables higher bitrate options and manual control, this camera is essentially useless for my (and most people's) needs. As someone who vlogs hiking content in wooded areas, the intricate details of tree leaves and the forest floor demand higher bitrates. Without them, the footage quickly deteriorates in quality. Unfortunately, DJI prioritizes battery life over image quality, and as of this review, manual bitrate settings are not available. The camera relies on AI to analyze the scene, and an algorithm determines the appropriate bitrate. This means that if the camera starts stationary and then moves, I’ve observed bitrates dropping as low as 30 Mbps for 4K/60p. The highest bitrate I’ve recorded was 75 Mbps at 4K/30p, which also resulted in the best footage ... MoreUntil DJI enables higher bitrate options and manual control, this camera is essentially useless for my (and most people's) needs. Reviews indicated that this camera would excel in such situations. However, this advantage is negated by the low bitrates, leading to pixelated footage. I also tried various color profiles, including D-LOG, HLG, and Standard 10-bit, but the compression artifacts severely limit any potential for color grading in post-production.I genuinely regret purchasing this camera. Until DJI introduces a manual minimum bitrate of at least 100 Mbps, I find the specifications misleading to the quality you can expect.

DEPENDABILITY, STABLE, REFINED, EASY... FINALLY!

Since the original GoPro, action cameras have been a part of my arsenal and I've always been unhappy because even though they're perfect for what they do, the quality of footage and the dependability has been lacking. I would often find myself looking for footage that didn't end up being recorded due to a freeze up or the camera not being ready when I needed it.With the Osmo Action 5 pro, that has all changed. I've found the near instant on recording very fast, and the battery life is AMAZING. having 4k 120fps and 1080 240fps is perfect for capturing those moments in buttery smooth slo mo. For snorkeling this camera is incredible

I went on a trip to Hawaii recently, and decided to get an underwater camera. I did not realize the new action cameras all came out a couple weeks prior to my trip, I opted for this one as it seemed the most reliable and straight forward to use. I am a professional photographer so quality matters to me, and I've avoided action cameras as they all seemed mediocre quality. But for funsies underwater, this camera was amazing. I recorded at 4k/120fps with rocksteady at wide - 12mm equivalent. Looking back I wish I used the standard 15mm equivalent as I'm more concerned about getting shots of the fish as close as possible before they swim off.But in any case, being able to just leave the camera on while underwater for nearly an hour, recording the whole time, and the ... MoreI went on a trip to Hawaii recently, and decided to get an underwater camera. I recorded at 4k/120fps with rocksteady at wide - 12mm equivalent. Looking back I wish I used the standard 15mm equivalent as I'm more concerned about getting shots of the fish as close as possible before they swim off.But in any case, being able to just leave the camera on while underwater for nearly an hour, recording the whole time, and the battery not die out was great, and the small file size was great and easy to cut down to less than 2 minutes of the best fish encounters. Slowing the footage down to 20% in davinci was great as the fish move so fast that the slow-mo still gives the appearance of the fish moving gracefully at normal speed. The auto white balance was incredible, the colors of the fish were vibrant and accurate, and the few times I had the camera just above water to underwater it'd adjust within a couple seconds.I got the adventure combo as the camera itself is waterproof up to 10m(or is it 20m) and I never went more than 5m deep. And more importantly I wanted the extension rod rather than the floating handle, as the 3ft extension allowed me to get the camera far closer to fish before they'd swim away. Theres no way I'd have gotten the great footage I got with the floating grip. And again for my snorkeling needs, the waterproof case was completely unnecessary as I'd never go deep enough to need its added depth protection. If anything, maybe find a way to clip the camera to your swimsuit so you can swim faster with both arms when needed, or have the handle wrapped around your wrist in case you lose your grip. I never dropped the camera myself, and if I did, it'd only fall at most 15ft deep where I'd be able to grab it at the places I snorkeled. For hiking or anything else above water I use my full frame mirrorless cameras, I don't do any crazy sports so I can't speak to the quality issues with the bitrate, but for snorkeling this camera has been more than good enough.I do hope they add other clip on lenses like a macro lens as the new gopro 13 has, as that type of lens I could do some creative work with above ground. But otherwise no complaints at all with this camera for my needs!

Great all round action cam although im not keen on the DJI mounting system over the GoPro. I also prefer the wider format settings of a GP.However, where this camera excels, is the low light settings, stabilization and battery usage.Ive been a GoPro user since the hero 2 (thru 13) and I returned my GP13 in favor of the Action5

This is probably the best all purpose camera I’ve ever had. Long battery life, no over heating, easy and stable user interface, lots of great shooting modes, allows 2 dji mics to connect directly, great stabilization, solid audio from the device directly, front screen is touch screen too. The best part is the instant recording button. Takes a split second to start recording if you need to capture something fast.

11 October 2024

Great Picture Quality.DJI is a poular brand and is so for a reason. They make quality products that stand up to day-to-day use in streaming, vlogging and action shots. It has great low light out of the box and there are a ton of accessories for it. It even takes great still photos. The clarity comparisons between the Action Pro 5 and the new GoPro show the DJI as a little clearer. Both are great options, but I prefer DJI. We also have an Osmo Pocket 3 and the Mic is compatible. Not cheap but worth it for the quality.

Good camera. DJI did a really great job by introducing new features. I was surprised to see that the battery was improved, and the new super low light is good. But do some reason the bitrate for this camera is low. I heard DJI is going to fix the bitrate issue in the next firmware update.
