We used this gimbal for the last 3 years and put it through insane situations, our company films outdoor gear and so we are shooting in the rain, snow, mud, etc. This gimbal has handled all of it. We have a RED Epic W on it, have used it hanging out of helicopters, on cable cams. It's our favorite piece of DJI gear ever. It even powers the RED for about 2-3 hours off the onboard batteries. Amazing.

DJI will take no responsibility for their failure to mention anything about this base level of operating noise - if someone will please point me to where DJI announces or admits this base level of operating noise I would appreciate it. And it is no small level level of noise. If you have the rig close to the action in a quiet scene then your Ronin noise will be all over everything, everything. But other than that the unit works great.

If you've ever operated Stedicam, switching to these 3-axis gimbals are so easy. It usually takes hours to get dynamic balance with a stedicam. With Ronin, it's about 5-10 minutes. Once you have it balanced, you can change out lenses and make a couple simple adjustments and you have it rebalanced in a matter of a few minutes. The shots you can get with this tool are worth the price. The downside to this is (which is really minor) is needing an iPhone or tablet with the DJI software to re-calibrate the system in the field. Not a big deal though. Almost everyone has a phone on them that can download and use the software. Really worth the buy. Wish it was less than 9lbs and more carbon fiber to reduce weight, but increase weight limit.2) With my Blackmagic Production Camera, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens, external Switronix battery, and Atomos Samurai Blade, I'm holding around 20lbs, so people with accessories and heavy camera equipment won't like working with this too long.3) Unlike a Glidecam where you can put the gear down when you get tired (or rest it on your belt like I do), you can't do this with the Ronin. Due to the gimbal on the bottom, you can't simply lay it down as you risk damaging components. So it's either, you need an extra set of hands to relieve you, or you need to pack the stand with you so you can put it down...or both!4) Wish the case it comes in was smaller. But it does have plenty of space for accessories (just no camera or lens...)All in all, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. The shots you can get on this rig out of the box is simply astounding and i HIGHLY recommend this! BUT don't sell your Glidecam just yet...you'll still want it around when your back gives out like mine did after filming for an hour...

Me you and everybody have been thinking that since the top bar is made of carbon fiber that the handles are as well but they are not. The metal collets at the top of each handle, (which are tightened down too much at the factory) which cracks the two plastic tabs. At the bottom of each handle are two more tabs that are holding on a useless but great looking DJI cap that does nothing to support the weight.. So the top handle is 2 pre-cracked tabs away from you watching your hard earned or rented camera fly across the room and crash destroying your livelihood or costing you a big deductible. Also as a note if you thinking ah well I'll just get a set of replacement handles for the cheap price of only $, you will be in the same boat, ALL HANDLES are FAULTY!! RONIN M, RONIN ALL OF THEM!!Please share this around and tell your friends, I was lucky. I'm hoping no one ruins their gear because of this sub-standard handle issue.I will keep everyone advised of the recall or you can contact DJI directly.

I have a canon c100 mark ii and use the Ronin primarily for the dances during the reception as well as various parts throughout the day. The Ronin allows me to get creative shots that I wouldn't be able to get otherwise. I used to use the glidecam HD2000 with a Canon 5d mark iii and the Ronin blows that out of the water. The stability is 10 fold to the glidecam. The only downside to the Ronin is the weight. It is not a big deal though because I'm usually only shooting with it for a few minutes at a time and get plenty of rest between uses. I chose the Ronin over the Ronin M, because I plan on using a follow focus, matte box, etc. I would highly recommend the Ronin to ... MoreWhat's not to like about the Ronin? Ronin provides great smooth cinematic shots, but if you're using a DSLR for this then you will have problems mounting follow focus.The camera and lens is still very light weight, so you have to put the camera very far back on the baseplate. Due to the design of the Ronin, the lens won't hang over the 15mm rods if its too far back. So, the motors for follow focus can't reach the lens. FYI: I used cinegears wireless follow focus and Contax Zeiss primes (So, if you use a cinema lens you may be okay with using DSLR, but using still lenses you may not.)I tried using a high riser@but that throws off the center of gravity and its impossible to balance. Okay so, I purchased a Movi M5 and returned after just 1 day. The Movi test shot was smooth but with my G-d given creativity, I wanted to be able to do so much more. So i research every image I could find / youtube videos to get it just right. From the looks it, the ONLY Movi, worth buying is the M15 (because it has that second battery housing, I am not even sure if you need both at the same time for the gimbal to work. But let's go back to the RONIN and why I like it. For a 5D3 I added the ultra cage gimbal kit, purchased the follow focus kit. And this housing is so solid and lightweight, I haven't even turned the gimbal on yet to be honest and I am already writing this review. The gimbal can power the micro remote unlike the Movi. Yes it's 4lbs heavier then the Movi 15, but i am also,Not using a heavy camera like most Movi 15 users do. So for me, the added weight balances out with my light 5D3 rigged out. It's like an M3

You have to balance correctly even if there is a auto-calibrate feature (sometimes I can get away with switching lenses without balancing). And you have to make sure there are no moving parts on the rig (except wires), that's important. When I have this balanced perfectly the only way I can hear it is if I put my ear right next to the motors. If you put it in quiet mode I cannot hear anything at all. If there is constant loud noise then obviously you did something wrong. I realize now some of the demos you see on youtube are shot with these options set at weird levels which makes the gimbal look bad. So take those demos with a grain of salt. One problem is that even when you have the z rotation fixed, it tends to drift over time. It can result in all your shots becoming dutch angles. I fixed this by setting the z not at fixed but to a very low speed/acceleration so I can jerk it to the correct position when it drifts. Be careful not to strain the motor too much or else it'll shut off randomly. So be gentle when transitioning to upside-down mode. This happened first time I used it when I was following the newlyweds into reception which was pretty bad and I was upset. But at least it didn't shut off when walking down the aisle. I don't know about the ios app but the android app is very buggy and the reviews reflect that. But over time you learn what causes those bugs and if you avoid them the app turns out not too bad after all. I shot a wedding with this and it turned out too heavy to hold all day. Might need support. But I did get beautiful shots. Side note: FS5's face tracking does not work when upside-down. Batteries last a good amount of time. I recharged for half in the middle just in case and I was able to shoot on and off for 9 hours never went below 50%.
