The application process was so easy, I shampooed and conditioned my hair in the shower, stepped to the side and towel dried my hair and combed it out, then applied this semipermanent hair color. I left it on for the remainder of my shower, approximately 7-10 minutes. The pigment is wonderful and rich, and it leaves beautiful warm tones in your hair. If you don't wear gloves to apply, make sure you have soap on standby to clean your hands or it will stain! This product left my hair silky smooth and shiny. I was very pleased with the golden brown color it toned my hair to. I was even more pleased to see that it did not slough off on my flat iron or my white pillow cases. I've already shampooed my hair once and the color stuck around. I can tell it's lighter and that it'll continue to lighten as I shampoo, but that's the point of semipermanent hair color. I think if I was in a pinch and needed to tone my hair between color appointments I would definitely consider buying this product. I'd also recommend this product for friends or family who need a quick fix to tone down and/or condition their hair.

However, Cool Medium Brown is the absolute BEST!!! If you leave it on dry hair for 30 minutes, I would say it is closer to a level 6 aka light brown. There is no hint of warmth. It is as close to a match for my natural hair color as I am ever going to find in a semipermanent (non-damaging) dye and I could not be more pleased!!!Pro tip: apply conditioner along your hairline before applying this color (and wear gloves) or it will stain your skin because it is very pigmented!

I felt the need to review because of some of the negative reviews Ive seen. This product isnt intended to be a hair dye like most of the negative reviews are trying to use it as. Its meant to freshen up your ALREADY EXISTING hair color. I have warm brown hair and go quite a long time between colors and using this, in a dark brown shade, refreshes my color and adds depth and shine. It looks like I got a fresh color, really even and beautiful. Its not meant to turn your hair a completely different color, this isnt splat. Definitely worth the money and you get quite a lot of product for what you have to use.It doesnt smell great but once you rinse, it doesnt linger. Also, obviously it stains. One wipe with a sponge and comet removes it.
I have naturally very dark brown/black hair and get the bright idea every couple years to balayge it. I recently had my hair done but have found over the years that my color goes flat and brassy very quickly, leaving me with orange and blonde chunks that quite frankly dont suit me at all. My salon look lasted all of a month or two before my hair wasnt what I wanted.I bought this product on a whim because I saw it on sale & let me tell you - IT WORKED MAGICALLY. It not only gave the apparance of toning my hair but brought it to the color I originally wanted it to be when I stepped into the salon. The orangey-ness was quickly and easily replaced with the perfect soft brown. I also noticed that my hair felt extremely soft after blow-drying.No harsh smells, easy to ... I applied in the shower using my hands, and while the color stained, Id say most of it washed off. I did end up re-applying after the shower on damp-but-not-wet hair and felt the color was easier to saturate. Definitely saw a difference in my hair even wet. With a thorough rinse both times, no pigment left on my white towels.Overall extremely satisfied with this product on first use. Hoping itll save me the hassle of going to a salon and the disappointment of orange highlights.
I loved the ease of not having to mix this product and having both the option to apply in-shower to damp hair or to dry. I used the dark brown which was perfectly suitable for my hair color. For the first application I used the in-shower on damp hair method. This sounded like no brainer... I didn't have to worry about the product getting on anything, I was already going to wash my hair anyway, and I could quickly and easily wash my hands to prevent the pigment from staining my hands... Right? Yes, to all but the latter!!! The company does warn that darker shades can stain the skin but I never imagined that it would stain my hands the second it made contact. I had to scrub my hands with a pumice stone until they were sore and raw in order to get the stains off. You ... I had to scrub my hands with a pumice stone until they were sore and raw in order to get the stains off. You have been warned :) Now fearful of what was the underestimated power of this product, I only left it on my hair for approximately 5 minutes. The results were great, as I did notice my color was a beautiful, deeper, richer version of its self prior to the treatment. Thankfully, my hair is already shiny so I am unable to review that aspect of the products claim. After 2 weeks I thought it only be fair to try this product using the dry method and left it on for the same duration of time for a most accurate comparison... This time, I used gloves :) The results were equally as positive and effective without the stress of staining. Both applications were super easy, as there was no mixing, the product comes in an easy to use bottle with a pump dispenser and the formula is rich and thick making for an effortless application. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for more dimension and an easy at home semipermanent color either in between visits to the salon or just to give your locks an extra boost of shine and depth. Compared to similar products, dpHUE delivered a richer longer lasting color. I would definitely recommend this product and will be repurchasing in the future.
I have virgin medium strawberry blonde hair. I had a bayalage many (4+) years ago, but havent dyed or lightened it since. I bought strawberry in the hopes of bringing some more warmth into my hair. The smell of the product is a mild ammonia smell and completely disappeared after applying my styling products. Wear a pair of well fitting gloves! I wore a pair of cheesy gloves you get with the just for men beard dye (i use it for my brows), and i wish i had a better pair when i was applying the product. It would have made the process easier. The next time i use this product i plan to section my hair, wet it with a continuous mist spray bottle, then apply the conditioner to my hair to allow for more even and full coverage. Because of the length and thickness of my hair, i will likely only get 2 uses per bottle.
Unlike many other reviewers, I have virgin hair (red/auburn) with quite a bit of natural highlights. I have not color treated my hair in years, and my hair is quite healthy, with the exception of some heat-related damage to the finer hair around my face. I selected the Copper color as I was looking to liven up my color, which felt a bit dull and not nearly as red/auburn as it used to be. Despite following the instructions and applying the product and distributing it evenly, I found this did NOT take evenly AT ALL. I combed this product throughout my hair, and even started applying through the length of my hair rather than the scalp. I combed this product throughout my hair, and even started applying through the length of my hair rather than the scalp. The product was on my hair for probably no longer than 5 minutes, and the top of my head/around my face was applied last - the color on these areas was probably only on for about a minute and a half or two. Despite this, the color saturated the top of my hair (but not the root area, even though it was applied here as well) and around my face, but was barely detectable anywhere else - with NO evidence of saturating the ends at all. I blowdried my hair anyway just to be sure I wasn't imaging things, and the color is so incredibly patchy and uneven after all the effort to apply it carefully, evenly, and comb it through. It looks bizarre and awful. I'm appalled and filled with regret. As another reviewer indicated, the copper color is really not a copper at all but a brick red. Unfortunately, I too look akin to The Little Mermaid. Although my hair is naturally red, this does not look natural at all.I would not recommend this product to anyone. I'll be attempting to undo this mistake with clarifying shampoo and baking soda. I don't even want to imagine how this would take hold on bleached strands, or anyone that has had some sort of color correction.
I started using the dark brown last year. I have hair that's on the darker side of medium brown w natural gold and red in it. Sometimes i wanted to cover the warm tones, but rn my new favorite combo is mixing the dark brown and the copper. I seem fo like my hair warm better when its darker. And i can also see why ppl buy this in clear, the conditioning it gives is an actual treatment like result. As often as i try to only buy this on sale, it really is worth the money. My hair is long, course and curly. You dont need as much of the product as you think. As you put it on, it softens your hair and it doesnt suck up the product if you go slow (ppl with coarse hair know what im talking about) I could talk about this all day. If you are on the fence about this maybe just try your own hair color, revitalize the color, gloss it and condition it. Happy coloring
This stuff WORKS. I have naturally dark brown hair that I bleached and colored red about a year ago, so I'm trying to keep the health of my lengths and ends by using color depositing conditioner rather than chemical hair color. When the color starts to fade, I apply the Dark Brown color on towel dried hair in the shower, leave for 30 minutes, then rinse. My hair is so soft and shiny afterwards, with my ends looking nice and dark like expected. HOWEVER, when I had copper hair, I purchased the Copper color so that I could similarly keep the color fresh without using harsh dyes on my processed hair. The downside to that was that this product lasts quite a while in the hair before fading, so I looked like Ariel for about a month. So, it's a long-lasting product that works very well and does what it says it does. But do not purchase the copper color if you want a "natural" result, because that is not what you will get. The Dark Brown shade works lovely though.
