I’ve worked Dr marten boots for years. My first pair was over 20 years ago and they are of superb quality. I have never thrown out a pair because they are wasted or broken; only to get new ones. They are not very comfortable when you first buy them but all it takes is for them to be broken in. After they are broken in they fit perfectly and comfortably. Make sure you purchase the correct size and wear them even if they feel thought at first; trust that they will break in and feel perfect after the fact. They end up not only being super comfortable but very durable. They will last years. They last so long that you will want to buy new ones when the others are still in great shape. I also use the balm for them is a must it also helps when you break them in as it makes the leather get a bit softer. I love my boots. I have a few different ones and I like them all. They even carry maryjane shoes as well as other shoe versions.... Show more

As fabulous as I remember
Bought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. Unfortunately they went missing in one of the many moves in my twenties and I foolishly never replaced them. Flash forward to today when on a whim I decided to treat myself to a new pair.If you're replacing your old Docs, go for the Made in England version. They're worth every penny. Sizing is as I remember it. I thought my old feet would require a size larger but was wrong. I'm a consistent 6 1/2 (37) with wide-ish feet so I ordered a 6 and a 7. Turns out the website is right when it says size down if you're a half size.As for breaking them in pop for the Wonder Balsam when you order your boots. Follow the directions and you will be comfortably wearing your boots in almost no time. ... MoreBought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. I applied WB every morning for three days, let it absorb for a few minutes and then wore the boots with thick socks while working from home. Worked like a charm and I was out stomping blister and pain free in less than a week.... Show more

Comfortable as expected but…
My mom has been trying to get me to get a pair of docs for yearrrrs so I finally caved. I started working at Starbucks and I serve at a restaurant so I said why not. I was wearing just Nike shoes and my feet, legs and back were hurting so I knew it was time for a change/investment for better shoes. I’ve had them for about a month now and they’re STILL squeaking every time I step. You don’t really notice the sound through the hustle and bustle of everything but you definitely hear it while walking when it quiets down. I tried olive oil but it only helps for about 5 minutes. I guess it needs more wear for the squeaking to subside but it’s quite annoying. On to the nonslip part… they are better than my Nike shoes for sure but I definitely still slip a little here and ... Didn’t get any blisters and I just wore thick socks to help the breaking in period. Overall, good buy but I think I would’ve gotten the softer leather ones. I ordered a size women’s US 6 because my Birkenstocks are size EU 37 but they ended up being too tight so I reordered a size up instead. And for reference, I wear W 7.5 in Nikes.... Show more

Not what they were…
My 1st pair of Doc’s back in the late 80s were made in the UK, and they were AWESOME! They fit well, and were Durable and Comfortable straight out of the box. I didn’t have to replace them until the early/mid 00s. I bought a pair of 1460-ish mid-calf lace-ups in Smooth Black, and a pair of Greasy Black zip-sides whose name escapes me at the moment. The zip-sides were UK-made, but the lace-ups were from China, I think, (bought both from DM’s online store) for some reason. I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived ... I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived on my doorstep with no insoles, which the Staff at my local Doc Marten’s store immediately comped me a pair when I stopped by to complain (that’s where they shipped from, so I figured I’d go straight to them with my problem). Not a BIG Issue, but worth mentioning - they recently started eating into my heels due to a pair of inconveniently-placed wrinkles that have dried into place. I recently found my tin of Original Formula Wonder Balsam that I bought with my 1st pair of Doc’s (I’ve heard that they’ve changed the formula within the past 10yrs or so, but that may be no more than hearsay), and am in the process of trying to rescue those Smooth Black mid-calf lace-ups, as they are my favorites, and I’m loathe to let them die so easily. The only way that style could be improved is by offering them in Greasy Black. My most recent purchase is a pair of Greasy Black 1460s that are marked as being Made In Thailand.Honestly, I had Issues with them straight out of the box. The Greasy Black finish was closer to Smooth Black, except that they were covered in what I can only describe as “micro-wrinkles” (like the fingerprints on a baby), they felt notably dry to the touch, and the insoles were thin and adhesive-backed (that’s a 1st in my experience), making it much more difficult for me to replace them with the better-quality insole options available (personal habit).Wonder Balsam to the rescue! I got the finish back to the Greasy Black that I love in about 36hrs, but that should NOT be necessary before the 1st Wearing. It took me about 30min to rip out all that adhesive-backed insole, which is about 29min longer than it should’ve taken to remove insoles.Oh, and the included laces are thinner, and some sort of synthetic fiber. Yes, they’re easier to tighten for a snug fit, but they also loosen quickly while being tied. I’ll have to swing by the DM Store downtown to see if they have the old-style laces. Another Minor Issue, but I’ve NEVER had an issue with my Doc’s if they were marked “Made In UK”, but they seem to have moved Production to Asia on a permanent basis…... Show more

Nowhere near what they used to be and almost twice the price!
I have owned Dr Martens boots for over 25 years and my most recent purchase of the 1460 Smooth Leather was a disappointment to be honest. The 'Smooth Leather' is thin and has a finish that looks and feels like plastic, the welt is finished poorly, the inner sole is completely synthetic and the outer soles are softer and lighter weight than my past boots. Is the leather split leather with a synthetic top coat these days? It feels like it.These boots cost £150 and I feel the quality is just not there anymore. Dr Martens, have you maximised profits over quality and now rely on your heritage brand image and bygone reputation to boost sales? It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. You used to be able to ... You used to be able to know you were getting a solid, reliable pair of boots that would last a long long time. Not the case anymore.I have some great memories of my Docs over the years but Dr Martens is a high street fashion brand now with a much lower standard of build on their main lines (unless you pay a much higher premium for the 'Made In England' line). It's quite sad. Thanks for the old times guys, but I think I'm done. All best.... Show more

Living in the far north of the uk, and remembering nostalgically the warm, dry, comfortable feet I had in my first pair of docs I had in the 90s, I bought a new pair of docs a week ago, waited patiently to mug the postman, they arrived! Weather was horrible so I excitedly put my left boot on, bliss! Perfect fit, so comfortable! Just as I remembered, a little tight across the top of my foot but okay. My right boot, ouch, instant pain across the top of my foot, okay they need to stretch, I had thick socks on, so I persevered, nope not getting any better, if anything worse each time I wore them. There is a little overlap on the seam that rolls over when my foot goes in creating a hard rolled ridge that presses into my foot, extremely painful, out comes the painkillers. I know docs are famously stiff until worn in, but this is a whole new level! I love my docs but I don’t remember this being a feature of my original boots and not in my polleys either, clearly quality control is not working! I am now going to resort to my leather skiver to try and remove the overlap.... Show more

Pretty good!
I'd been wanting docs for a while and I chose these to be my first pair over the original style of 1460s because a, vegan; b, I prefer these gold accents; and c, I read a review that these were more waterproof due to the faux leather or something and I'm going to be traveling to a relatively rainy climate this fall and need shoes to serve that purpose. Anyway, I love these shoes, though I've not yet tested them in rainy weather to determine whether that claim is true. However, here are the impressions I have ascertained after about 1.5 months of having them:1. they do run true to size, in my opinion. I wear Converse quite a bit and tend to be a 6.5-7 in those; I ordered these in a 7 and while there is wiggle room in the toes and ankle area, it's no biggie for me. I ... I kind of like it better that way.2. They are extremely squeaky, especially if you've been wearing them all day. I'm not sure if this will get better as they're more broken in, but the people I live with find it very annoying and typically refuse to let me wear them in the house.3. Regarding the breaking-in process, it's not too bad. The first few times I wore them i did have to wear them every other day because I had actual bruises from the top of the shoes rubbing against my calves, but after a week or so, there was no issue.4. These are not shoes for people in a hurry. To put them on, I have to significantly loosen the laces all the way down and then tighten them all the way back up to tie them. This does take longer than it would take in other shoes because of the stiff material.Overall, I love them and wear them nearly every day. They definitely have a few limitations, but they're surprisingly comfortable to trek around in for a full day or more. Would recommend!... Show more

Such an amazing pair of shoes!
I work as a barista so I needed a pair of nonslips and these have been great. They do run a little big as others have mentioned in the comments, but I usually wear a 9.5-10 and the women’s 10’s were perfect. They loosen a little as they break in, so be aware that if they’re initially a little snug they’ll become roomier. I’ve been wearing them daily for two weeks, and they only felt stiff and uncomfortable for the first two days(approx. 10 hrs of wear). Although I don’t have any major complaints I will say that these aren’t as nonslip as some of the other nonslip shoes I’ve tried. I feel fairly stable but will slip slightly on milk puddles or very slick floors. They are also VERY squeaky, but I’ve been reassured this gets better after a few months. Despite these ... THOROUGHBRED !
I will be 62 years old this February. I have worn Dr Martens shoes and boots ( and even sandals ) since I was a young teenager in the 1970's. Although I have had / and still own many pairs of imported DM's, I still gravitate to the Made In England versions. I have witnessed many fashion trends come and go, in music, clothing and footwear but Dr Martens have always remained the coolest of all ( and that includes all the other apparel and accessories ). There is just something so very unique about them. My latest acquisitions are a lovely pair of Oxblood "Made In England" 1460's in the beautiful, legendary Quilon leather. That's what I did and suffered badly then started wearing them loose and the pain instantly went away across the tops of my feet.In the evening I would stuff my boots with big pairs of socks to fill the boot out.I purchased the wonder balsam and it is ment to soften the leather but you only use it once a month so it is a slow process but worth it in the end.I'm on week 4 now and they feel like I've had them years and don't need any plasters.
