I have very large feet and these boots are wonderfully light to wear. However, there was an issue with one boot, Where the tongue meets the toe it felt like there had been some sort of manufacture problem. It put extreme pressure on to top of my foot and I thought I was going to send them back. But I remembered that I had read that you should wear them to soften them up a bit before any long wear. So I did - with my hiking socks. The first wearing I only lasted about 30 mins - just standing and sitting. But a few hours later, I tried again. And with the heat of my body and patience, the offending area softened and molded to my foot and is now fully comfortable. All this was in the house. I will be taking them on an actual walk very soon.

My mom has been trying to get me to get a pair of docs for yearrrrs so I finally caved. I started working at Starbucks and I serve at a restaurant so I said why not. I was wearing just Nike shoes and my feet, legs and back were hurting so I knew it was time for a change/investment for better shoes. I’ve had them for about a month now and they’re STILL squeaking every time I step. You don’t really notice the sound through the hustle and bustle of everything but you definitely hear it while walking when it quiets down. I tried olive oil but it only helps for about 5 minutes. I guess it needs more wear for the squeaking to subside but it’s quite annoying. On to the nonslip part… they are better than my Nike shoes for sure but I definitely still slip a little here and ... MoreMy mom has been trying to get me to get a pair of docs for yearrrrs so I finally caved. Didn’t get any blisters and I just wore thick socks to help the breaking in period. Overall, good buy but I think I would’ve gotten the softer leather ones. I ordered a size women’s US 6 because my Birkenstocks are size EU 37 but they ended up being too tight so I reordered a size up instead. And for reference, I wear W 7.5 in Nikes.

I love these! They are my first pair to wear which are mine! I have always borrowed my cousins.I was told being new that I should expect them to hurt as they would need breaking in, however I have worn them twice now for full day events and had no problems which has been great.I bought a size 6 which is my usual size and they have plenty of room round my feet. I have worn 2 pairs of socks each time though which has possibly helped with not getting blisters. They make them lovely and cosy to wear though.I bought the shoecare kit with them and followed the instructions before my first use. Then applied the Wonderbalm again afterwards.

I can't believe it has taken me 37 years to finally cotton on to Dr. Martens. Still - better late than never, as they say.Honestly, I'm not one to get enthusiastic over footwear, but good lord these things are good. Hardwearing, extremely comfortable, supreme quality - I honestly cannot recommend them enough, and I shall be purchasing Dr Martens exclusively henceforth. After almost 4 months of taking a beating, they show absolutely zero sign of becoming worn - they still look pristine (although I do care for them well), but this is most noticeable on the sole. By now, every single pair of boots I've owned prior would be showing signs of wearing down on the heel. These Dr. Martens still look as though they just came out of the factory. Unreal.Brilliant, thank you!
I love them. I had actually bought the wrong pair and had to return them and get these. So thank you customer service. With just a few things to say. They are great boots and very well made and sturdy. A few things to nit pick at were. I wish they had the water proof seal with the tongue just as extra security. And the tongue on my left boot seems to always pull outward no matter how much I adjust it continuously. They are id say 70/100% slip resistant. But very well made and comfortable for kitchen work with wet and dirty tile floors. Easy to clean and will have for years to come. Overall love the boots
My 1st pair of Doc’s back in the late 80s were made in the UK, and they were AWESOME! They fit well, and were Durable and Comfortable straight out of the box. I didn’t have to replace them until the early/mid 00s. I bought a pair of 1460-ish mid-calf lace-ups in Smooth Black, and a pair of Greasy Black zip-sides whose name escapes me at the moment. The zip-sides were UK-made, but the lace-ups were from China, I think, (bought both from DM’s online store) for some reason. I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived ... MoreMy 1st pair of Doc’s back in the late 80s were made in the UK, and they were AWESOME! The zip-sides were UK-made, but the lace-ups were from China, I think, (bought both from DM’s online store) for some reason. I read later that Production was being moved there for the stereotypical reasons. There was an easily-overlook-able difference in Material Quality and Workmanship; the Chinese lace-ups needed more Maintenance than the British zip-sides, as the leather tended to dry out more quickly, and they arrived on my doorstep with no insoles, which the Staff at my local Doc Marten’s store immediately comped me a pair when I stopped by to complain (that’s where they shipped from, so I figured I’d go straight to them with my problem). Not a BIG Issue, but worth mentioning - they recently started eating into my heels due to a pair of inconveniently-placed wrinkles that have dried into place. I recently found my tin of Original Formula Wonder Balsam that I bought with my 1st pair of Doc’s (I’ve heard that they’ve changed the formula within the past 10yrs or so, but that may be no more than hearsay), and am in the process of trying to rescue those Smooth Black mid-calf lace-ups, as they are my favorites, and I’m loathe to let them die so easily. The only way that style could be improved is by offering them in Greasy Black. My most recent purchase is a pair of Greasy Black 1460s that are marked as being Made In Thailand.Honestly, I had Issues with them straight out of the box. The Greasy Black finish was closer to Smooth Black, except that they were covered in what I can only describe as “micro-wrinkles” (like the fingerprints on a baby), they felt notably dry to the touch, and the insoles were thin and adhesive-backed (that’s a 1st in my experience), making it much more difficult for me to replace them with the better-quality insole options available (personal habit).Wonder Balsam to the rescue! I got the finish back to the Greasy Black that I love in about 36hrs, but that should NOT be necessary before the 1st Wearing. It took me about 30min to rip out all that adhesive-backed insole, which is about 29min longer than it should’ve taken to remove insoles.Oh, and the included laces are thinner, and some sort of synthetic fiber. Yes, they’re easier to tighten for a snug fit, but they also loosen quickly while being tied. I’ll have to swing by the DM Store downtown to see if they have the old-style laces. Another Minor Issue, but I’ve NEVER had an issue with my Doc’s if they were marked “Made In UK”, but they seem to have moved Production to Asia on a permanent basis…
I have owned Dr Martens boots for over 25 years and my most recent purchase of the 1460 Smooth Leather was a disappointment to be honest. The 'Smooth Leather' is thin and has a finish that looks and feels like plastic, the welt is finished poorly, the inner sole is completely synthetic and the outer soles are softer and lighter weight than my past boots. Is the leather split leather with a synthetic top coat these days? It feels like it.These boots cost £150 and I feel the quality is just not there anymore. Dr Martens, have you maximised profits over quality and now rely on your heritage brand image and bygone reputation to boost sales? It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. You used to be able to know you were getting a solid, reliable pair of boots that would last a long long time. Not the case anymore.I have some great memories of my Docs over the years but Dr Martens is a high street fashion brand now with a much lower standard of build on their main lines (unless you pay a much higher premium for the 'Made In England' line). It's quite sad. Thanks for the old times guys, but I think I'm done. All best.
Living in the far north of the uk, and remembering nostalgically the warm, dry, comfortable feet I had in my first pair of docs I had in the 90s, I bought a new pair of docs a week ago, waited patiently to mug the postman, they arrived! Weather was horrible so I excitedly put my left boot on, bliss! Perfect fit, so comfortable! Just as I remembered, a little tight across the top of my foot but okay. My right boot, ouch, instant pain across the top of my foot, okay they need to stretch, I had thick socks on, so I persevered, nope not getting any better, if anything worse each time I wore them. Out comes hairdryer to warm the leather across the top seam where the tongue is attached, not much better, so further investigation ensues. Out comes hairdryer to warm the leather across the top seam where the tongue is attached, not much better, so further investigation ensues. There is a little overlap on the seam that rolls over when my foot goes in creating a hard rolled ridge that presses into my foot, extremely painful, out comes the painkillers. I know docs are famously stiff until worn in, but this is a whole new level! I love my docs but I don’t remember this being a feature of my original boots and not in my polleys either, clearly quality control is not working! I am now going to resort to my leather skiver to try and remove the overlap.
I work as a barista so I needed a pair of nonslips and these have been great. They do run a little big as others have mentioned in the comments, but I usually wear a 9.5-10 and the women’s 10’s were perfect. They loosen a little as they break in, so be aware that if they’re initially a little snug they’ll become roomier. I’ve been wearing them daily for two weeks, and they only felt stiff and uncomfortable for the first two days(approx. 10 hrs of wear). Although I don’t have any major complaints I will say that these aren’t as nonslip as some of the other nonslip shoes I’ve tried. I feel fairly stable but will slip slightly on milk puddles or very slick floors. They are also VERY squeaky, but I’ve been reassured this gets better after a few months. I like dr martens and I was really excited to find some cool boots to use for work, especially ones that were proven slip resistant. Maybe i need more time to break them in but its proving impossible. I can use them for maybe 3 hours tops with no problems. Passing the 4th hour and the balls of my feet and my toes are in immense pain. So the last 2-3 hours of my shifts are not fun.I usually double up on insoles but i can't do that with these. Any extra layer just presses my feet/toes to the top of the shoe and makes an incredibly tight fit. The seam on the tongue of the shoe that sits on top of the foot is also uncomfortable. Was really looking forward to spending good, comfortable years with these.Again i dont know if this is because i still need to break them in or if its just a problem with my foots anatomy. But its a real bummer considering i own a different pair of docs that fit perfectly and are comfortable for a full day's wear.
