Bought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. Unfortunately they went missing in one of the many moves in my twenties and I foolishly never replaced them. Flash forward to today when on a whim I decided to treat myself to a new pair.If you're replacing your old Docs, go for the Made in England version. They're worth every penny. Sizing is as I remember it. I thought my old feet would require a size larger but was wrong. I'm a consistent 6 1/2 (37) with wide-ish feet so I ordered a 6 and a 7. Turns out the website is right when it says size down if you're a half size.As for breaking them in pop for the Wonder Balsam when you order your boots. Follow the directions and you will be comfortably wearing your boots in almost no time. ...Ā MoreBought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. I applied WB every morning for three days, let it absorb for a few minutes and then wore the boots with thick socks while working from home. Worked like a charm and I was out stomping blister and pain free in less than a week.

These are of great quality and definitely worth the price. I can see that they will age willā like wine. The leather is of high quality and the gold loop is a great touch.Breaking them in was not too bad as I use them for working in a UPS warehouse, so they were like comfortable old shoes after 2 weeks. Would recommend the foam insoles Dr.Martens sells for added comfort, but theyāre not necessary to enjoy wearing.Side note: I wear size 9.5 US Menās, but they UK 9 (US 10) was not too bad. Especially after the insoles were put in them. Thanks Docs for not forgetting the āold timersā that want the Original Vintage boot from England š¬š§š¤

I have very large feet and these boots are wonderfully light to wear. However, there was an issue with one boot, Where the tongue meets the toe it felt like there had been some sort of manufacture problem. It put extreme pressure on to top of my foot and I thought I was going to send them back. But I remembered that I had read that you should wear them to soften them up a bit before any long wear. So I did - with my hiking socks. The first wearing I only lasted about 30 mins - just standing and sitting. But a few hours later, I tried again. And with the heat of my body and patience, the offending area softened and molded to my foot and is now fully comfortable. All this was in the house. I will be taking them on an actual walk very soon.
I love these! They are my first pair to wear which are mine! I have always borrowed my cousins.I was told being new that I should expect them to hurt as they would need breaking in, however I have worn them twice now for full day events and had no problems which has been great.I bought a size 6 which is my usual size and they have plenty of room round my feet. I have worn 2 pairs of socks each time though which has possibly helped with not getting blisters. They make them lovely and cosy to wear though.I bought the shoecare kit with them and followed the instructions before my first use. Then applied the Wonderbalm again afterwards.
I wanted some classic all-rounder boots for work and play that were sturdy and would last a long time. I was hoping to buy some āfor lifeā boots but I see that DMās have stopped that scheme now - such a shame as I really liked the idea of having a pair of boots that could be looked after for life!I ordered a size 8 expecting them to be big as I usually find I can get away with a 7 or 7.5 in DMās. They are actually quite true to size and felt a little snug when I first tried them on - after checking the sole against my Chelsea boots they do look the same size so I think itās just a case of getting them softened up to fit. They arrived beautifully packed and presented. They do look extremely well made and you can really tell the difference between them and my cheaper ...Ā MoreI wanted some classic all-rounder boots for work and play that were sturdy and would last a long time. They do look extremely well made and you can really tell the difference between them and my cheaper Chelsea boots. I would agree with other reviewers in that the sole looks thinner on these - not sure if thatās a deliberate design decision? I also bought some docs socks and have applied some wonder balm a few times to help break them in. They are slowly softening and moulding to my feet after a few weeks of wearing them around the house but Iām not sure theyāre ready for a day of work yet as theyāre still rubbing on the backs of my heels. Iāll probably buy some thermal insoles for them for winter as they donāt keep your feet that warm, but I donāt mind as I bought them for wearing year-round.Overall Iām really pleased them them. They look good, theyāre well made and theyāll go with just about any outfit. Fingers crossed theyāll last a long long time!
A major part of this is, obviously, but part of the story. I always had, have and will have dr. martenās shoes. Yet this is my first time wearing made in England edition. Surprisingly not as heavy as Iāve excpected. Thicker leather means a bit slower breaking in. All my dr. Martenās shoes withstand years of duty. That means four years minimum and being chewed by a dog.It is good to have a thing that last. And it is good I can believe the story behind.// yeah. I know this review is more about the brand than actual shoes. The shoes are perfectly fine, delivery was smooth.
I originally ordered a 5 not realising that because these are genderless the sizing is more āgenerousā. I looked like Sideshow Bob on the Simpson. I used the Japanese sizing to find my DM size which, it turns out is a 3! Duly ordered the 3, perfect foot lengthā¦canāt actually get my foot in them though. Now, maybe I have a high arch but I have no issues with boots (Timberland for example) or lace up shoes & trainers from other brands so this is a first for me. Iām not willing to have clown feet by wearing boots 2 sizes too big just I can get them on! I am devastated, had my heart set on a pair of DMās but no joy for me. Itās genuinely not even a question of stretching them out with shoe trees. The best way I can describe it is that the top of the shoe is too long so ...Ā MoreI originally ordered a 5 not realising that because these are genderless the sizing is more āgenerousā. Opening up the laces part as far as it will go still doesnāt provide enough room to get the foot in.
I have owned Dr Martens boots for over 25 years and my most recent purchase of the 1460 Smooth Leather was a disappointment to be honest. The 'Smooth Leather' is thin and has a finish that looks and feels like plastic, the welt is finished poorly, the inner sole is completely synthetic and the outer soles are softer and lighter weight than my past boots. Is the leather split leather with a synthetic top coat these days? It feels like it.These boots cost £150 and I feel the quality is just not there anymore. Dr Martens, have you maximised profits over quality and now rely on your heritage brand image and bygone reputation to boost sales? It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. You used to be able to know you were getting a solid, reliable pair of boots that would last a long long time. Not the case anymore.I have some great memories of my Docs over the years but Dr Martens is a high street fashion brand now with a much lower standard of build on their main lines (unless you pay a much higher premium for the 'Made In England' line). It's quite sad. Thanks for the old times guys, but I think I'm done. All best.
Living in the far north of the uk, and remembering nostalgically the warm, dry, comfortable feet I had in my first pair of docs I had in the 90s, I bought a new pair of docs a week ago, waited patiently to mug the postman, they arrived! Weather was horrible so I excitedly put my left boot on, bliss! Perfect fit, so comfortable! Just as I remembered, a little tight across the top of my foot but okay. My right boot, ouch, instant pain across the top of my foot, okay they need to stretch, I had thick socks on, so I persevered, nope not getting any better, if anything worse each time I wore them. Out comes hairdryer to warm the leather across the top seam where the tongue is attached, not much better, so further investigation ensues. Out comes hairdryer to warm the leather across the top seam where the tongue is attached, not much better, so further investigation ensues. There is a little overlap on the seam that rolls over when my foot goes in creating a hard rolled ridge that presses into my foot, extremely painful, out comes the painkillers. I know docs are famously stiff until worn in, but this is a whole new level! I love my docs but I donāt remember this being a feature of my original boots and not in my polleys either, clearly quality control is not working! I am now going to resort to my leather skiver to try and remove the overlap.
