I've have this in the Silver color for 14 year now and it not only works great, but is durable and doesn't have any scratches. It takes up little counter space and can even stow away on the drip tray. I highly recommend it!

No more smudged fingerprints on the knock box 🎉 but this one is just too small. Often when knocking it allows grinds to escape. Especially if it is the second coffee. Bigger box is required.

This Grindenstein Knockbox is okay. I got sucked into the knockbox hype (haha?) and I guess I'm underwhelmed. It doesn't really work any better than the plastic plate I was tapping my pucks onto. A couple of hard knocks just kinda makes a mess as the stubborn puck clings to my Breville Bambino's pressurized portafilter basket. More gentle rapping on the bar will eventually get it to give up and fall in without a mess. I think this box is just a bit too small to contain potential splatters and crumbling puck shrapnel, while the larger version is too big for my liking.

Awesome knock box! I was skeptical, but after opening the box and taking it out, the product is very well made. Sturdy. Solid. Compact. I even dropped it accidentally after washing it, and it didn’t do a darn thing to it. I was impressed because I dropped it pretty hard. I’m glad to went with the large size. I think the smaller one would have been too small for me. With this size, the grinds all make it into the box. Also, I can get quite a few pucks in there before I need to empty it. Great buy for the price!
I purchased the smaller model for a portable machine that uses a 49mm insert basket. I was so impressed with the quality, that I purchased this larger model for my 58mm basket E61 group machine. The smaller model would work also, but with the 58mm portafilter, it is a very close fit - this larger model prevents any splashes. The fixed bar is an advantage, it doesn't fall into the trash pail while emptying. While a bit larger than the standard Grindenstein, it still is very efficient with counter space.
I have never used a knock box so I have nothing to compare it too. The rubber isolators holding the rod in place seem to give too much flex when knocking the basket against the rod. It seems like a rod more solidly fixed into the box would allow for a more solid hit, to jar the grounds loose, but maybe a little bit of give is preferred by more experienced baristas. We also tend to get a lot of splatter, so I could see a box with higher sides being nice.My wife and I will continue to use this knock box, so I'm not saying we don't like it. It is well built and the 1-piece cup/box is nice and easy to clean.
I didn't look closely at the dimensions so I was a little surprised when it came in. I'm used to cafe sized knock boxes, and this one is nice and small. It's adorable and also the perfect size for home use. It doesn't take up a ton of counter space, but is large enough that I usually only empty and run it through the dishwasher once a week. I've been using it for about a month now and it's really just perfect! Very happy with the value for the money and the quality.
This little knock box is the perfect size for a home kitchen. Easy to clean and the coffee grinds dont smell when left in the box for a few days, unlike when we were tipping them into our green waste bin. Now we empty the knock box straight onto the garden or into a watering can for easy fertiliser. Love the little story behind the company too!
I wanted a small knock box to use with a manual portable brewer that uses a 49mm insert basket The quality of this was so high, that I then purchased the Big Grindenstein for use with my E61 group machine that uses 58mm baskets. While this compact model could also be used with the larger portafilters, I opted for the larger size for that application. The non-removable bar is an advantage; in my previous model, the bar would often fall out while cleaning. The interior of these models is slick, so the coffee pucks fall out easily. This design also saves counter space.
I recently replaced an old breville knock box with this, and am dissapointed.One thing that's immediately clear the first time you go to use it is that the knock bar is made of plastic, not rubber, and therefore does little to absorb the shock of knocking.The circumference of the knock box is also quite tight, making it easier to spill the contents of your basket on the bench/floor.I'd avoid unless you're really only making a few shots a week and knocking it into the sink doesnt cut it. For every day drinkers this is not the knock box you need.
