An effective long slot toaster

We were looking for a replacement that had wide, long slots and the Dualit certainly meets those criteria. The toaster works well, and the supplied heating rack is a handy add-on that allow you to warm a croissant or similar. Controls are fairly basic, but simple to operate and so far we have made toast from a variety of dirrent bread without any problems. Like any toaster you have to get the settings based on experience and personal taste.

We purchased this toaster in the belief that Dualits were the best, but our experience so far leads us to believe that it's no better (in fact, it's worse) at toasting than other, cheaper makes and therefore is poor value for money. We've tried all the various combinations and settings of the controls to produce an even toast but invariably whilst it toasts the crust edges of the bread the centre is not toasted properly. To achieve the centre of the bread toasted to an acceptable standard means the edges get burnt - and we have found this be the case with both frozen and unfrozen bread. Perhaps we are doing something wrong, but having tried all sorts of combinations of control settings, we don't think so.As an appliance rated at 1800w, the elements appear to be too ... MoreWe purchased this toaster in the belief that Dualits were the best, but our experience so far leads us to believe that it's no better (in fact, it's worse) at toasting than other, cheaper makes and therefore is poor value for money. Perhaps a toaster with a lower rating (say 1400w) would solve the problem, but whilst taking a little longer would produce a decent toast.Nowadays, many manufacturers of electrical appliances seem to go to great lengths to promote more powerful being better and faster and Dualit appears to have produced a toaster which may be faster, but not, in our experience, producing an acceptable toast. Didn't the Dualit design people discover this? The control switches and the operating lever are very good, being nice and robust.Would we recommend this toaster to others? Based on our experience - certainly not!

We've had the toaster for about a week now. For its main function (ie handling long slices of bread) it does fine.Given that you can put two normal slices of bread in each slot it's a shame that you have to use both slots, even if using only two slices of normal bread. It's like using all 4 slots of a toaster when only putting in two slices of bread :(It seems well made though, and has this "bagel" function to only toast the sliced part of the bagel, but we've not used that.

Great style & a better fit on worktop
9 March 2023

Had a Dualit in the past, lasted 15+ years, but replaced it with a cheaper model, that lasted less than 5 years so back to a Dualit. We specifically wanted one that was slim but not just a 2 slice toaster. This is perfect, 2 long slots so you can fit 4 still. Yes there is not one setting that fits all, so you do have to adjust depending on whether you are using both sides or not, bit trial and error to start, we've not used higher than 3/4, and managed to not set the smoke alarrm iff! All in all very pleased and the toasting rack is great for croissants etc.

Great toaster

I love this toaster as it has some useful features that I use. It'll take long slices that I make or buy and as I use them straight from the freezer I just push the button for frozen bread and the extra time is added automatically. It works well with thick slices of bread and I like the handle that I can operate to check how the bread's doing without turning the toaster off. I just have to remember to turn the number dial down for enriched bread such as brioche. The spring on the toaster's quite strong and sometimes launches the brioche onto the worktop, I suppose because the bread's very light, but it's funny rather that a problem!having read the reviews beforehand I noticed that some customers had had a problem with their toast burning around the edges, this only ... MoreI love this toaster as it has some useful features that I use. Just what I expected
6 March 2023

I bought a Dualit Classic in 2000 and it has been a veritable workhorse standing up to daily use in my kitchen. However all good things come to an end and although I replaced the elements there were just a few niggles including it not being big enough for my homemade sourdough. To be honest I did look at other brands but, based on how good the Classic is, my go-to brand will always be Dualit plus their customer service is excellent. After using this for a couple of months I can report that this model is great and provides those extra little functions I now need. Yes, sometimes with self cut slices where the edges are a little rough, it can still catch and cook quicker than the centre of the slice but if you keep your eye on it it's fine. I haven't burned anything yet!

Looks great, toasts inconsistently
24 January 2023

Unfortunately, I seem to have ended up with one of the ones that cannot toast bread consistently, despite what Dualit claims. Every time, I ended up with toast where the crusts were almost burned but toasted perfectly in the middle, or nicely toasted crusts and just warmed bread in the middle. Such a shame as it looked like the perfect toaster on paper, especially with the longer slot. JL tech support were helpful and offered replacement, substitute or a refund.

Not worth the money
8 January 2021

I thought I would splash out on a stylish toaster. I wanted a long slot shape so that I could fit the bread in landscape mode so the whole slice would be toasted. Many toasters seem to leave the top of the slice of bread sticking out at the top, which does not get toasted. I liked the features that this Dualit toaster had. However, it does not seem to toast the bread evenly, but it's not really a problem. When the toast pops up, it is noisy and the spring is so powerful the toast often comes right out of the toaster and lands on the floor or the worktop! The defrost setting works well and I like the 'lift and look' especially if cooking things like crumpets which often needs be cooked twice. Bagel function not really much use, even though I like bagels, I'm happy to have them toasted on both sides. However, after 6 months it stopped working. I tried to push the lever down and it would not stay down. It blew the power in the house. I tried it in several different places and each time it blew the circuit. It may have just needed a new fuse in the plug, but I thought if I changed it, it would invalidate my warranty. So I have returned it. Very disappointed having spent such a lot.

Unreliable toaster
22 November 2023

We have had Dualit toasters before and been very pleased with them. Our very old toaster broke, so we replaced with this Dualit long slot toaster, what a disappointment! Toast is either underdone or burnt round the edges and the middle is done. We looked at reviews before we purchased and it indicated it was a very good toaster. We have looked again at reviews, to see that the odd one seems to be causing the same problems as we have.

Worth the wait
24 January 2023

I took a long time to actually move this from my wish list to actually buying it.The price and mixed reviews caused a bit of caution to splashing out. But I'm so glad I did.Got this just before the family descended at Christmas and everyone used it with no issues. No burnt offerings. No lengthy delays to getting your toast. Multiple toast types catered for.Yes it's 3 figures for a toaster but the results are worth it. Only time will tell how it lasts but at least it's got off to a good start
