I bought the Dualsense Edge because as an avid gamer on both Xbox & Playstation I spend a lot of time gaming. I regularly use an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller and wanted the Playstation equivalent, which is the Dualsense Edge. It arrived promptly and on unpacking I noted it came with it's own portable case made of good solid plastic to protect it, keeping everything together if you want to take it to your friends. Everything you need is included in the box from the charging lead to the extra metal levers for the programmable buttons on the underside. Connection to the Playstation 5 is seamless. Just connect it via the lead to the PS5 and it is automatically detected. Their may be a software update when you first connect it but this is done automatically. The big question is how does it perform. From the moment you pick it up it feels like a quality product. It is slightly heavier than the standard controller, but not uncomfortably so. The removable joysticks feel great, and are fully adjustable both in sensitivity and tension, coming with a choice of levers. The triggers are also adjustable, with three settings, short travel for FPS games to longer travel for driving sims and the like. The entire controller is customizable using the Playstation App on the console, with complete button remapping, deadspot adjustment on the Joysticks, etc. I have to say I am extremely happy with the purchase. The only drawback really is the price. It is a heavy investment, but if you like a quality gaming experience and spend hours gaming like myself, it is worth the outlay in my opinion.

Compared to the stock DualSense it is slightly heavier, but otherwise feels practically the same in-hand.Battery life is stated to be slightly lower, but I honestly don't notice a difference, it still lasts plenty long. The added function of shortening the max trigger distance for the L2/R2 buttons is quite nice, but isn't of much use for me since I always flip the shoulder button layout for shooters to aim and fire with L1/R1.The back paddle buttons feel good and durable. They are made from metal. I personally like the half domed shape over the lever style. They feel and function far better than Scuf's or any other poorly made 3rd party controller company's back buttons. The ability of being able to swap out the entire analog mechanism seems pretty pointless ... MoreCompared to the stock DualSense it is slightly heavier, but otherwise feels practically the same in-hand.Battery life is stated to be slightly lower, but I honestly don't notice a difference, it still lasts plenty long. The added function of shortening the max trigger distance for the L2/R2 buttons is quite nice, but isn't of much use for me since I always flip the shoulder button layout for shooters to aim and fire with L1/R1.The back paddle buttons feel good and durable. Also with this new modular design I can see more problems occuring in the long run that would be much harder to fix. I do however like the ability the swap out the thumb stick shapes to the classic DualShock 3 style. There are 2 new "fn" function keys to create and change profiles for custom control layouts. I always use my first layout so I never use these buttons, but it might be useful for some. For the advantages this controller offers over the base DualSense, I'd say it's far too overpriced. Really the only thing you're paying for is the additional of having back buttons, which I don't think are even that useful for shooters since I've been doing jump and drop shots at a high level for over a decade with just the face buttons, and don't feel at all that I'm at a disadvantage that use back buttons. But if you're someone that needs the back buttons, this controller is far batter than all the other well known 3rd party options.

Sony took a little from Microsoft, a little from Astro and made a great controller. I like their version of profile switching and volume/party/game sound control. If you own any pro type of controller you are used to the button assignment, trigger, and customization screens. You really can’t change the basics already set in place. I like the different style PlayStation took to back paddles but, found myself used to the normal paddles on any pro controller and switch back to them after one gaming session. I also like the locking power cord adapter. This controller shines but only on the PlayStation console unless you prefer the PS type of controller on PC. I prefer an Astro C40 or Xbox Elite 2 controller on PC if I use one as they are just better in grip and functionality. The Elite 2 controller with adjustable thumb stick tightness is next level. Another issue with the controller is battery life, 12 to 13 hours is terrible. The Astro C40 will give you 12 hours, the Elite 2 will give you 40. This is not a deal breaker but an issue that Sony has had for two consoles now and seems to not be looking to resolve anytime soon. Would I say get this controller? Well yeah, if you own a PS5 and don’t mind not having the physical customization of a SCUF (e.g., colors choices) then this is for you. If you’re a PC player go for the Elite 2 unless you prefer the PS type of controller over the bulkier Xbox industry standard. Hey folks I have them all and they all serve a purpose. Live life and remember console wars don’t exist real gamers have all systems.

IMPORTANT READ. Plagued by Mushy face buttons.
22 March 2023

PLEASE READ!Do not buy this controller unless you're ready to gamble on whether or not the controller is affected by mushy face buttons. A quick browse on google via reddit will net you a surplus of people dealing with this issue. RIGHT OUT THE BOX on some controllers. The square triangle circle and X buttons are completely mush and vary from unit to unit on which buttons are worse than others. The original Dualsense and other controllers prior to THIS do not have this issue. Returning the controller to Sony/best buy will NOT remedy this for 2 reasons (thus why this makes things so frustrating)1. You could return to best buy, but more than likely you're next controller will suffer this same issue, which will most likely result in a refund (rightfully so)2. Sony doesn't allow you to specify what exactly is wrong with the controller during return. People are on their THIRD RETURN while Sony continues to blindly try to rectify your controllers issue. Marginal success from some who have received a unit with proper feeling face buttons.A teardown of the Dualsense edge on YouTube proves the design in rubber used under the face buttons have changed, which is could have something to do with the issue - but doesn't explain why a larger amount of people don't have this issue and why each unit has a specific set of mushy face buttons.Outside of that gamble, if you're willing to take a chance:Build quality is great (minus the biggest issue)Feels solid, heavier and a big more precise in terms of grip and feel. I am a PC user, so I only get a portion of what the controller has to offer until more DSX third party support comes alongAccessories are neat, storage case is solid, feels like it's gonna be dirty in a month.I just feel ripped off when my PS4 face buttons feel more crisp and sharp than a $200 controllers who's quality control seems missing, being as this issue only plaguing more people as purchases happen.Open box units are probably from people dealing with this issue, so don't buy open box either.

Great controller! Slightly heavier but after first picking it up you don’t notice anymore. Battery life is a little shorter but that is to be expected since it contains a smaller battery. Adjustable triggers are awesome for shooters where being first to fire matters. Has two extra buttons on the back. Comes with two types, a paddle and more of a button. I personally like the paddles because they don’t stick out as far. You can also remove them if you don’t want them at all. One of my favorite features is the thumb sticks. Pesky things always go bad and now you can easily swap them by just unlocking the face plate and pushing a button to remove them. Controller also is also mappable. Very premium feel and look. High quality hardshell case holding all attachements and controller adds to value of the purchase. Added texturized grip on the back of the controller gives it a very nice feel. Not sure how i will feel about the glossy front plate around the anolog sticks (sure it will fingerprint easily) but for now makes the controller look very nice. Extra buttons on the back are probably the biggest change to how you can use the controller. Probably the biggest selling point along that and swappable analog sticks. Even can switch out stick tops to give the classic dualshock feel during the ps1-ps3 days if thats your preference. Glad i got it so far after a day of use. Even can switch out stick tops to give the classic dualshock feel during the ps1-ps3 days if thats your preference. Glad i got it so far after a day of use. Worth mentioning that the ps5 allows you to make multiple “loadouts” for your controller mapping even changing the response curve of the sticks as well as trigger deadzones. That being said while those options are appreciated its hard to notice a difference between settings. What is noticable are the Stoppers for the triggers along with swappable back buttons. Alot to play around with to make your controller perfect for you, recommended for people who play FPS games. Taking one star away because of the noticable decrease on battery life compared to the regular dualsense. This to many is likely the most important factor and is undoubtedly worse than a contoller that is basically a third of the price. Not for everyone, and the price tag is high, but most people considering getting this controller will be satisfied with their purchase. Not recommended for casual gamers, especially who play primarily single player games.

The grip on the back and sides make it feel comfortable to hold, rather than how the regular DualSense causes cramps. The fact that you can change out the sticks is a bonus, as I’ve had 2 controllers develop stick drift and another start to feel like an unoiled hinge, creaking. The half-circle back buttons feel great as it fits best for my hands where I won't accidentally press them like I would with my Elite & Elite 2 for the Xbox. The long dome knob is a great addition too for those who already have their muscle memory to those from playing with an Elite 2 remote.I do like the trigger locks to adjust how far you need to pull the trigger, it’s very useful for specific games. I LOVE that they still work with the adaptive triggers while that's in effect. The buttons feel the same as with the original controllers so not much of a change there, but the touchpad does feel much nicer. The case is sturdy and feels like it can survive most impacts and won't need to worry. It has an area you can attach a small lock to the zipper or you can use a carabiner as I do with my headset & controller cases when I need to travel. The case also has a Velcro strap area to attach a USB-C wire to charge directly into the controller while not using it. It’s similar to the Elite Series 2 but that one uses a magnetic base to charge while allowing you to plug it directly into the controller. The last pro might be the most important. The software involved is great compared to many other controller customization software. It’s a little rough in certain spots but it’s great for what it is. Allows you to change how much you need to press for the triggers before it registers, allows you macro every button, and changes the type of slope for the sticks, including their dead zone. All these things are great for specific customizations for specific profiles for the controller. Here are the cons.Cons:While you can change out the sticks, the plastic that gets pressed in doesn’t seem very strong. It looks like it might be an issue down the road if one of the teeth bends or breaks and you have to replace the entire accessory pack with a new stick module. The battery is about 2/3 as long as the regular DualSense controller (DualSense is around 1,560 mAH while the DualSense Edge is 1,050 mAH). So it won’t last nearly as long if you utilize features like the gyroscope or the adaptive triggers. It does come with a USB-C lock to keep your wire attached to it while gaming, so when it runs low you don’t have to worry about it dying. It is something I very much love about it but I don’t think the battery will last more than 4+ years if it is what you use every day.The FN keys are great but one arrived loose which made me return it for a replacement since I could see that being an issue later on. But the features it has is still A1, even better than the Xbox’s version. Conclusion: I would recommend this controller to everyone to anyone who spends a lot of time gaming on a PS5 or PC (and only uses a controller and can wait for updates to make it more compatible with a PC). It is an almost perfect addition to any PS5 setup and if you find the DualSense uncomfortable, this will help alleviate those issues. For me, the Elite Series 2 is the best controller but I am a primary PlayStation gamer so it has been rough. If you are tall, heavy, or just have large hands you will understand that issue that many remotes cause. This DualSense Edge is comfortable enough for long periods of gaming and will make anyone happy to receive this. Thank you for reading such a long review, but I figured having and playing with it every day since it came out would give some insight into why this is such an awesome controller.

Smooth, nice, many defects, not worht 200+tax

For $200+ i would not recommend this playstation controler. If it was 100 i would. 150 maybe. First, the joysticks have a clicking to them. I didnt notice it at first, people around me wothout headsets on told me. I then looked it up and seen other people have same issue. Point docked. After less then 30 days of playing mw2, stick drift all ready started. I had to clean it, must of had dirty hands, but wait, looked it up, a lot of people have issue with same yellowish tint forming by where pinky would sit. Alchool rubs it off a little but my prediction after so many cleanings rubber will start to fade and wear down. Points docked. Theres definitely more you can adjust then other controllers but not much. this one is strictly for ps5. Idk if it works with ps4. Theres definitely more you can adjust then other controllers but not much. this one is strictly for ps5. Idk if it works with ps4. Or pc for that matter. The dpad buttons, up fown left right, feel really nice. Same with trickers, they have textured x o ■ triangle on them whitch can be nice, after long game play can make a numbing sensation on fingers. Being able to lock the amount of pull needed on R2 n L2 is nice. Being able to swap out joysticks after 30 day use then stick drift accuring, is nice. Dualsense joysticks on controler that came with ps5 lasted 5 month's. After watching other people taking the edge apart, the components are a lot of metal or aluminum whitch makes the pull and push of all buttons feel smooth. In return adds more weight. A lot complain about battery. Dont last as long as original controler. But can still get 4 good hours of gameplay on a charge. The lights around touch pad only come on when you first turn controller on, then they turn off and stay off. Only a small white light above ps symbol stays on. Mute button is a little better then original. I prefer the trigger/lever style exra buttons rather then the small push buttons, but both are magnetic and smooth. Im gonna keep it but i would tell someone to wait untill it drops in price or if you have reward points to use or a coupon. Not $200+tax

The joystick module is arguably the best feature

I like a lot of things about this controller so far. It feels high quality, with neat minor details here and there, like textured grip on the handles and buttons.Pros: The case it comes in is really nice with an opening at the top so you can charge your controller while it's safely stored inside. Everything it comes with fits inside the case as well so you don't need to keep a mostly empty box in your closet for the rare day you need a part. Speaking of accessories, it comes with four convex joystick caps (two long and two normal length) in the case and two normal length concave joystick caps attached. The texture on them is great and I actually prefer the convex caps over the concave ones in this case. The texture on them is great and I actually prefer the convex caps over the concave ones in this case. It has a space in the case for a spare joystick module, I think. It doesn't come with the spare, there's just a space, so I can't be sure that's what it's for, but that's what it looks like. The joystick module is arguably the best feature of this controller because with this controller if you experience stick drift, replacing your joystick is simpler than ever.Cons: My only complaint is that it only allows for two buttons on the back instead of four. Most other "pro" controllers allow for four buttons on the back. The two buttons on the bottom are just function buttons and both have the same function, and cannot be mapped to another button as far as I'm aware. The "short" battery life isn't a concern to me because it's about 7.5 hours, which is plenty for me, and it's 'easy' (for me at least) to upgrade that battery, plus the controller comes with a high quality, 9 ft, braided cable, with a locking mechanism. This controller is definitely worth the money if you want two extra buttons on the back, adjustable triggers, customizable buttons and joysticks built into the controller, and premium case, and some other functions.

Very expensive not gonna lie , but worth it for any Pro Gamer

Im part of the new wave of gamers that finally got their hands on a PS5. Coming from an Xbox Series X, i had the elite 2 wireless controller which is awesome and wanted a playstation equivalent. Therefore the dualsense edge was just what i needed. The level of customisation, the og dualsense has flat analogues which are ok but compared to the rounded grip anaolgue sticks of different height that come with the dualsense edge are so grippy and comfortable i don't think i can ever go back. Not to mention the the customisable back buttons paddles or domes are so useful, the system wide integration and all the usual dualsense features such as adaptive triggers and haptics is just perfect. The way you can change the triggers and analogue stick deadzones to suit your gaming style or get the upper edge in shooting games is awesome.I specifically got it in time for Resident Evil 4 remake, and it has been a joy to use, i set up the back paddles to be parry and reload, set the right hair trigger to the lowest setting and using the rounded analogue sticks, taller one for aiming and setting the deadzones to quick and digital respectively has just changed playing the game completely compared to the vanilla controller. The only downside is battery life, itll be low on battery withing 2/3 hrs of a intensive gaming session. But the included cable lock works perfectly, allowing you to continue playing whilst charging the controller without adding too much bulk, plus the included cable is plenty long which is always great.Overall im genuinely so happy, and ive only just scratched the surface, the fact i can make custom profiles for all my games and swap them out on the fly is something i loved from Xbox Series X and now its finally on the PS5 too and somehow even better than the elite 2. Its awesome, feels premium and don't regret getting at all.
