I used for my internal doors, window frames and skirting- perfect finish with 2 coats. Beautifully flows to paint, amazing product with ultra low odour. I just bought another 4L to finish all doors upstairs too:)4L covered 5 doors and downstair window frames and skirting.

Doesn't scratch off. Easy to clean.

I love this paint. I use it to resurface kitchen cupboards and it is so hard-wearing and easy to clean. It won't scratch off. My little toy poodle can scratch at one corner of the door for hours and there is not one scratch mark on the paintwork. Tough paint.I will use a sponge roller on the kitchen cupboards and doors for a lovely egg-shell finish, which I really like.If the weather is hot the paint can thicken up, so that's probably when you'll get brush marks. Just spray the paint with a little water and stir it in occasionally. Drips mean that you've loaded too much paint onto the brush or the surface isn't prepared enough.Easy clean ups.

Happy with this paint. Painted all the trim/doors and after several months still happy with the end results. No scratches of flakes. The previous paint was a high gloss oil enamel, so spent a bit of time sanding off the gloss and using a good primer before using this paint. I did two coats, but would think if I didn't use a white primer, would probably need 3 coats.

Ive worked with this product almost every week day for past 3 years. It isn’t the best aquanamel, that would be haymes but is still good. it’s cheaper than haymes and you get what you pay for. Ive been painting for over 10 years and don’t have any issues with this product. Oil based is a stronger finish however this is far easier to use for those that aren’t painters and is more environmentally friendly. Also don’t get the fumes you get from an oil based gloss either. The negative reviews are clearly by people who have no idea what there doing. As long as you make sure your undercoat is solid (I recommend 2 coats of 1 step oil based undercoat) this will cover in 2 easily. Beautiful paint - easy to work, easy to clean and applies really well with enough malleability to pick up any issues. Drys quickly, odorless and goes for miles. This is high quality material but needs to be treated as such. Suspect a lot of the one star reviews are from people that are trying to use a white pigment directly over an old, baked on or yellowed foundation. I've had success with a lot of prep work - on arcitraves with for example : heat gun to strip old material, sand, sugar soap wash Dulux brand surface prep, sand, wipe down then apply two coats with at least one in daylight / natural light - using multiple types of premium brushes. It's too thin to try to just smear one thick coat down and call it a day. I bought 4L of this and found it quite good to brush on skirting boards where the finish is not super critical. At that stage I had nothing to compare it with. On metal door frames I found it a bit trickier to apply but resolved that via technique. It skins and dries very fast so that can be a challenge also. I really struggled applying this to old doors laid flat. Brushing it on left enormous corrugations from the brush given it dried so fast. Undercoating didn't help. The best result I got was literally pouring the product from a paint pot, spreading it evenly with dry roller across the surface until evenly applied, then with same short nap roller rolled it. Must be applied very thick and multiple coats. Following the dulux instructions didn't really help me. The best result was still sub standard. I then purchased Taubmans ultimate enanel and found it to be greatly superior. One coat, again poured on and spread with the roller, then rolled. It bleeds in very smooth flat and a very high gloss. The Taubmans is much slower drying (and smelly) so this in itself makes using it much more predictable. Perhaps a professional painter wouldn't struggle with the Dulux but professional I am not. I hope this helps. I think the Dulux is OK but not for flat internal doors.

Not an equivalent of traditional enamel at all

Bought this paint for my bathroom door, trim and windowsill. Fast drying is a very accurate statement, leaving you zero time to touch up. You'll need to be a very good painter. It is very matt for semi gloss, therefore showing up any missed spots. When the paint was fully dry I placed something on the windowsill which left a ring mark. I scrubbed it which not only didn't get the mark off, but took the paint off. Definitely is not going to work on items you need to regularly wipe. Disappointing for a Dulux product as I always regarded Dulux as the best.

Overall glad I switched to water based
30 October 2022

We had a new tiles, skirting and architraves installed and I decided to do the painting myself. The skirtings were pre primed, but as they are MDF I wanted to prime them myself to make sure they are sealed against any water from mopping.First I stared using the Dulux oil based primer and then the Dulux oil based semi gloss because of the durability of oil based enamel. However, after one room the difficulty applying the oil based products, especially cleaning up little spots when some would get on the tiles, just became too annoying. Also the fumes were quite bad, even with a proper painting mask and windows open. But I will say to looked good.So I chucked a wobbly and decided to go all water based. Also the fumes were quite bad, even with a proper painting mask and windows open. But I will say to looked good.So I chucked a wobbly and decided to go all water based. I bought the Dulux Precision Primer as it claimed to have the best adhesion. It adhered well over the oiled based enamel I had just applied a week ago, and you couldn’t scratch it off. Two coats of that primer was required over the pre primed MDF. The precision water based primer is pretty thick and does leave brush marks if you’re not careful. Then two coats of Dulux Aquanamel Semi Gloss, but could have gotten away with one.A lot easier to apply overall than the oil based, as wiping mistakes off the tiles and wall when cutting in as a hell of a lot easier and no fumes. You do get some brush marks but only noticeable close up. The trick is to have a decent amount of paint on your brush so it can flow, and don’t over work it. Glad I went for the semi gloss, has just the right amount of shine. I’m sure it won’t be as durable as the old oil based enamel but just a lot easier to apply overall. Can do touch ups pretty easy if people chip it. Also the added advantage is it won’t go yellow with age like the oil based. Our old skirtings and doors changed from crisp vivid white to an off white in about 3 years, so glad these will stay as vivid white.

Stop whining
11 March 2023

Every single person whining about how runny it is, how hard it is to get a decent finish, you need perfect prep to make it look good etc etc is just a testament to there skills. It’s why painters exist, because all the weekend warriors come along thinking “oh yes let’s slapped some paint on it’ll be easy” then kicks of because they can’t get that professional finish but are too cheap to pay a professional 🤦‍♂️. As a professional I find it easy to work with, runny yes but dries fast and minimal odour! Ps to the person using “vivid white” complaining on coverage, you’d be hard pressed covering anything in “vivid white” under 3 coats! Do yourself a favour weekend warriors and use lexicon qrt or builders white you won’t know the difference and it’ll actually cover…

12 months ago I put Dulux Aquanamel on the standard hardboard internal doors throughout my new home. I am not a professional painter, however I have painted extensively over the last forty five years and I found this a difficult paint to get a really even surface with, it tends to leave roller streaks. I applied a single coat of primer sealer and then three coats of Aquanamel and the result looked good. The doors were hung and within a short time the doors were starting to show chip marks. We are a retired couple and not hard on houses, but the smallest contact with a door removed paint. On the sliders the plastic guide takes paint off too. This paint is totally unsuitable for doors! The Dulux oil-based paint I applied thirty three years earlier to the doors in our previous home showed virtually no chipping and less wear than the Aquanamel doors after one year. The conclusion is obvious. On the architraves and window reveals Aquanamel has so far has been quite satisfactory.
