So I say that as sort of an armature yo-yo player. Since I was a kid, I loved playing yo-yo. Now it's something my son (9 years old) and I do together. I prefer a normal Duncan yo-yo, which this isn't. If you want something that will just go up and down, there is a Duncan Imperial that's sold everywhere. (to go up and down there is a way to double loop the string at the axes which I'd suggest because even the Imperial was originally design to "sleep" and do tricks the moment you open the package.) But once you learn a couple of tricks you want to do more, this is the yo-yo for that. I bought my son a $25 yo-yo for tricks, but he really loves this $5 one I bought at Target..Duncan just updated the Butterfly XT to have smoother barrings, so it spins very nicely when ... MoreSo I say that as sort of an armature yo-yo player. I bought my son a $25 yo-yo for tricks, but he really loves this $5 one I bought at Target..Duncan just updated the Butterfly XT to have smoother barrings, so it spins very nicely when thrown down. It has great response with a simple tug, and it's pretty heavy duty plastic so it wouldn't break easy. This is the perfect yo-yo if you are looking to learn to do tricks like Walk the Dog, Rock the Baby, and Skin the Cat. It takes practice, but you can do these tricks on this yo-yo. Of course once you get those tricks down, you are wanting to learn more. This is a great yo-yo for anyone looking to do a bit more with a yo-yo, and honestly, at $5 it's the best deal for this level of yo-yo. I wish I could give the value a 6 stars on this.(Look for the yo-yo on the right. That model has upgraded barrings and better quality.)

I have had the old 'Duncan Butterfly XT', and it wasn't good. However this 'Duncan Butterfly XT' (2019 Model) is far superior and is really good for the price. You can learn your basics and more. I would recommend it for anyone if they want to learn Yoyo or want to improve their responsive yoyo game. For $9 I can not find anything else on the market that is better.

This is a ok yo-yo but there are much better yo-yos out there such as the fast 201. People say it doesn’t work as it doesn’t come up, that’s because it is a true yo-yo that sleeps so you have to tug it to get it back up. But the one I got required a bind to get it back up which is strange as it is suppose the be a responsive yo-yo but binds which are not too hard. People also say that is broken as you can’t wind it up XD just watch a yotricks video to learn how to wind it up or use common sense. It’s great for learning how to throw the yo-yo and how to mount the yo-yo and that’s it after that you will need to upgrade to a better yo-yo. But it is totally ok for a starter yo-yo.

For the cost, its worth it. Kids will enjoy it yet Its a spin off of duncan. Its not a Duncan, that I remember. Same form & shape. Not the same weight and quality. That has an affect on its proformance. When attempting tricks, like " walk the dog", it wobbles and layes to its side. When doing " rock the baby" it lays to its side and begins to spin.
This is an amazing yoyo. It's my son's very first and he loves it. He likes the design on it. He said the tricks you can do on it makes it an amazing yoyo. I enjoy playing with it too and doing tricks I knew when I was a kid.
The Duncan Butterfly is one of my favorites: smooth as silk movements, fluid handling, fast return, bright colors and a comfortable "old hand." I've collected one from nearly every era, along with others in the Duncan line. Yoyos are a time-honored childhood/youth ritual. For me, they recall a less complicated time and, while still primarily seen as a "male" toy, they also bring back the "wow" factor from my youth, for the analog thrill they provided us.
These are good quality and will last a very long time. I bought them to have at the house for when my young grandchildren come over. It gives their Dad a time to shine on how to "walk the dog" and the "cradle" etc. Still a good price on a simple toy. :)
I ordered a green and blue yoyo. You had a pink and blue one ready at the counter. I exchanged that for an orange and red one. Color does matter!
the yoyo was good but when i was reading the reviews people said that the string was to lose and how the yoyo didn't go up when they played with it and how it was a wast of money.1.the string was to lose because you have to lightly wrap the string around the yoyo until the sting catches on it then wrap it tight.2.the yoyo didn't go up because you have to tug your hand up to make the yoyo go up.its not a wast of money you just don't know how to use it.
i dont know why or how it got good reviews of 4 stars. it is impossible for the yo yo to even bounce back up! strings tangle easily and my 9 yr old had a difficult time with this one. it is cheap but still, at least sell a cheap WORKABLE yo yo. would NOT recommend
