Great expansion to an already excellent game. My friends played on Friday and the game feels less cramped and more open. The additional boards and leaders make it more fun to play.

It's fun packed in a box. It's like D&D turned into in a board game, with cards instead of dice and DM. Takes time to unbox and set up (huge amount of token and cards), but this is fun too. Quality of parts is top notch. Gameplay is amazingly designed. You can choose how much you role play, but you can definitively role play if you want. Feels like a campaign setting for D&D.

This is everything you wanted for this expansion. More interesting placement spots, alien tech, improved skirmish elements, more cards, more characters, new play mode. Makes a great game even better.
I don't know that I'd call this an "essential" expansion but that's only because the base game is so great. However, this expansion makes the game better, and I don't think I'll ever play without it. The new spaces are much more interesting, and new cards and characters are always welcome.
I am huge fan of Dune: Imperium. The Rise of Ix expansion made a great game even better. Replace some boring agent spaces from the original game with a much more interesting shipping track, tech tiles and dreadnoughts. More cards, too with some different abilities.
Well worth getting as the expansion definitely improves gameplay and the added Ixian tech cards are a great addition. Our gaming group reckon it makes the game more balanced and our last game came down to the last conflict where no one knew who was going to win right up until the end.
Good quality components. The new cards provide great variants. Some of the new Leaders are quite powerful. The Dreadnoughts are neat, as is the shipping track, although I miss the CHOAM market to sell spice. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Tech Tiles.
There is no reason to not play this expansion when teaching the base game. The amount of extra cards alone is worth it. The price is pretty high but you are getting a lot of content. The dreadnoughts added in this expansion make battle so much more interesting, not to mention the new tech tiles from Ix. I won't ever play without it, even with new players.
