Dune (Movie Tie-In) by Frank Herbert
DUNE Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family-and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

I'm loving this book. It is written so good. I love the world that is being described. The cover is beautiful, and at Barns and Nobel there were a few different styles to choose from. The movies are great, but of course the book is so much better. It explains a lot that the movie does not explain. Dune - by Frank Herbert (Paperback)

Frank Herbert's Dune, winner of both Nebula and Hugo awards, is both a classic and a masterpiece, and echoes of its influence can still be felt throughout the sci-fi genre many decades later. It thouroughly explores the ideas behind society, culture, politics, and religion in a web of political intrigue that's only truly been rivaled in scope and depth since its writing by George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. This book also masterfully explores, analyzes, subverts, and deconstructs many of the most popular tropes in literature. It's also the first book in a series every bit as phenomenal as it is, though it was written as a stand-alone novel and can certainly be read as one. I highly reccomend that anyone with even a passing interest in this book pick ... MoreFrank Herbert's Dune, winner of both Nebula and Hugo awards, is both a classic and a masterpiece, and echoes of its influence can still be felt throughout the sci-fi genre many decades later. Dune has to be in the top ten scifi novels ever. This edition is hardbound in bonded leather with cover and spine illustrations in black and shimmering gold. The pages are also faced with gold. Quality of the paper is light cream and a decent weight - classic. There are also six appendices: 'The Ecology of Dune', 'The Religion of Dune', 'Report on Bene Gesserit Motives & Purposes', 'The Almanak en-Ashraf (Selected Excerpts of the Noble Houses)', 'Terminology of the Imperium', and 'Cartographic Notes' ending with an illustrated map of the Dune planet. Overall, this is an heirloom copy that will never outdate, in my opinion. Beautiful.

Frank Herbert created a world that you'll want to revisit over and over again. And with six installments of his own, and many more from his son, Brian Herbert, it's hard to run out of new material. "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration." "The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience."
The book arrived wrapped in paper, no blemishes and looks fantastic! The pages have a little wave in them but no bends or scratches. I would of loved the book being sealed in plastic but overall it is a beautiful book and very happy with it. Will be a great addition to the collection.
The book is one of the greatest science fiction stories ever written, so the content gets 5 stars...the binding, not so much. It has a very cheap and thin spine, and the proportions of the pages are weirdly narrow and tall. In order to bend the book open enough to read the words nearest the spine, you're breaking the binding. This copy will be falling apart in just a few readings.
Set more than 21,000 years in the future, Dune won the first Nebula Award and shared the Hugo Award. As to language, the "d" and "h" words are found frequently, a crass term is used of a person's rear end, someone is called "lizard [feces]," a little bawdy humor occurs, and there are some oblique references to sex but nothing openly vulgar or obscene. Concubines are mentioned several times. Jessica is the Duke's concubine and only woman though they have never officially married. Paul keeps his Fremen wife as a concubine and his only woman though he officially marries the Emperor's daughter. The Baron is definitely portrayed as a homosexual, although the LGBT crowd has complained that the book's only portrayal of a homosexual character, the vile pervert Baron ... MoreSet more than 21,000 years in the future, Dune won the first Nebula Award and shared the Hugo Award. According to the Afterword, Dune is a modern-day conglomeration of familiar myths, has words and names from many tongues, and is based on themes found in a variety of religious faiths. I noticed concepts drawn from Islam, Judaism, and even Christianity. Early in his newspaper career, Herbert was introduced to Zen by two Jungian psychologists, and throughout the Dune series Herbert employs concepts and forms borrowed from Zen Buddhism. In spite of these things about the book that I didn't really care for, I generally enjoyed the story.
Tossed my paperback awhile ago. Wanted to read again. This leather bound edition was really nice, price well and the font style agreeable to my old eyes.
9/10! I loved Dune! There was so much to it. I never saw the 80s movie so I didn’t know about it at all. I’m glad too because from what I’ve heard from the movie, it’s not that great. But the book is a masterpiece. So I was just thinking as I was finishing the book, that they really ought to remake the movie. I log on to IMDB, and Boom! There it is! Coming out this year, Dec 2020! And everything I’ve read about it, it’s going to be epic. Like Star Wars and LOTR epic! I can’t wait. Everyone should read this book first though. I’m excited to read more of the Dune saga now too. Dune Messiah: You’re next!
This book is the work of an absolute genius. Herbert creates an entirely-believable universe that he invites the reader to mentally enter and temporarily reside in. This volume is leather-bound (much better than my worn-out paperback.)
