I contacted Dyson directly and to their credit, they were very friendly and understanding and tried to resolve the issue. The problem is that their resolution was not the one the “customer” (WE) wanted to hear! Dyson sent us a parcel post return slip and told me to send it back to them for repair. This would mean that we would have to spend our time going to the post office etc., but more importantly that we would be without a vacuum cleaner. What Dyson should have said was something like, “we are very sorry that our product broke after only two months use, let us send you a new vacuum cleaner and you can drop off the one you purchased at Harvey Norman at your convenience”. This would have been the least they could have done given the inferior quality of their product. Now we are writing this review. So In summation, we would not recommend this product. Although it has good suction, the head does not work as well as the sub $200 dollar Philips vacuum cleaner we had before, and the quality does not live up to the Dyson reputation. We give it 1 Star due to the quality.

I was initially skeptical about buying the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball vacuum cleaner. However after purchasing and using it I absolutely love it! Suction power is good and the various attachments are well designed and easy to use. Unlike the Wertheim vacuum cleaner I previously owned, the Dyson attachments are easy attach with a click on action and a button to press to detach them. The hard floor cleaning head is well designed and can swivel in multiple angles which makes it easy to vacuum our tiled floor house. Vacuum cleaner is very lightweight and easy to take around the house and up and down stairs. The retractable cord is nice and long which means we dont require an extension power cord to use it most of the time in our house. This machine is great... i literally have 0 problems with it and the 2 years warranty on labour and parts is a great bonus. There were shortcomings on this machine for the earlier productions but i think Dyson fixed them all. The power cord length got fixed.... the minus and plus suction flip button got switched from the turbine head to near the hand where you hold it so you can easily change traction types on carpet which may be problem on full suction mode... People I cant stress this enough.. you need to READ the manual.... this is a sophisticated vaccuum machine not some 100 dollar vaccuum where there are no instructions and is simplistic. Vaccuuming is not a race.... dont do it very fast otherwise you may break something over time.... this is just common ... MoreThis machine is great... i literally have 0 problems with it and the 2 years warranty on labour and parts is a great bonus. Vaccuuming is not a race.... dont do it very fast otherwise you may break something over time.... this is just common sense... Where it says do not go past this line on the bin cannister... DO NOT GO PAST that line... INFACT empty the cannister once a day so dust never accumulates and goes up to the upper chamber where it over time slips into the motor.... in addition to this get an air gun and use it like once every 2 weeks or once a month to get all the dust out and have the motor be 100% Dont use any cleaning agent, water or liquid.... its not necessary... use an air gun every 2 weeks or monthly. With the main attachment tool you use.... go front and backward... repeat this motion for best results. Do not only go in one direction... those rotating multiple thistles are designed for back and forth. There are a few places where it tells you to keep an eye on here and there as dust/things may get trapped in there... use an air gun in those places specified in the manual.. easy. NEVER suck in pebbles or anything pointy and hard... the extremely high velocity dust/rubbish that is spinning in the bin is a recipe for disaster... something will break... dont risk it. TREAT it with CARE always... You wanna know why so many people complain about dyson vaccuums.... cause they dont read the manual and dont take care of this beautiful machine... Suggestions for Dyson... I only have a few extra things but they are not really negatives.... the power and cord pull button triggers are small and look fragile but i might be wrong. Use your hand only never your foot, it may break. The good part is it does not protrude past the back of the machine... the ball design of the back makes it so these triggers are not likely to bump into something and break... I suggest making them slightly bigger and less fragile but i may be wrong.... they might be durable at that size.. The 4 tiny wheels on the main tool you will be using are positioned to go front and backward... DO NOT move sideways.... only move sideways when it is mixed with back or forward directions.... Dyson if you guys could turn these 4 wheels into a 4 ball design, they would never break and there would be much greater manoeuvrability. A WIN WIN. Under the main body of the machine there is one cylinder on the front and 2 cylinders near the back side. I like the cylinder design and the fact that they are not too small make it durable... is it possible that a more ball design instead of cylinders would help? I may be wrong... All in all.... a great machine and im sure it will serve me well for a long time to come... Also.... I realise that the big ball animal is marketed for animal owners and pet hair and the absolute as the deepest clean but this is just marketing... The big ball animal and absolute are virtually the same machine... just a few extra attachable tools and a different colour. I dont have a pet in my house and i bought the animal because i couldnt justify the extra 100 dollars for my particular household... other people may find it worth it because they have different cleaning needs. If you are trying to choose between absolute and animal.... look at the extra tools that come with it... save 100 bux if you dont need the extra tools.... I have always desired a dyson... now i have a dyson vaccuum and a pure cool me air purifier from them aswell. Finally I have dyson products!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy!! ^_^ If you want to thank me for summarising the manual or for customer suggestions dont thank me.... was happy to help. I would recommend this product but not to everyone.... to technology enthusiasts! The reasoning is... the average person does not take care of it and views it only as a machine.... this is not a lifeless machine... this should be your synthetic marvel of technology, your baby! You need to take care of it and it will take care of you.... This is a marvel of technology and very aesthetically pleasing simultaneously. It is a niche product for technology enthusiasts.... ^_^

I have had Dyson vacuums for years and been very happy until now. This unit is unfortunately just rubbish. The suction is poor. The very small head gets clogged easily with dust, fur and hair and you are forever stopping to unblock it. Further, the stiff brush bristles on the head sweep the dirt away instead of sucking it up. The tangle free turbine tool used to remove hair from upholstery ruined my brand new couch on first use, leaving circular marks indented on it. The waste receptacle does not close easily and frequently comes undone when emptying, depositing all the rubbish all over the floor. The power switch is also flimsy. Highly recommend staying well clear of this vacuum. A disappointing purchase for $900!!
I gave this 1 star because there is no option for NO stars. I have used Dyson for more than 20 years and don't want to move to the battery operated ones for several reasons (such as poor environmental choice given the materials in the battery + the high cost of replacing them). This is the LAST Dyson I will own. When using the carbon fibre turbine cleaner head, it moves like crazy and is so noisy. All of that I could put up with if the wretched thing would pick up all particles. But if a particle is more than a few millimeters in size, it spits them out and I have to either put the upholstery head on or disconnect the vacuum stem to suck each one up. Utter waste of money and a severe disappointment. I should have taken more notice of the 1 star reviews. Sandra
I bought this Dyson less than 2 years ago with the "animal" in mind because I wanted it to pick up my dog's hair on the carpet. It started out great; first time out of the box, the suction was strong. However, with continued usage, the suction got weaker and weaker, no matter how many times I empty the barrel. Now after just less than 2 years of usage, it seems like it's picking up little to no pet hair at all. Very disappointing considering the price, especially since I also own a V8 hand held vacuum and that is pretty good. Also what the others are saying about emptying the barrel is true. It is very messy, and when you click open the barrel, the dust goes everywhere. I have to wear a dust mask to prevent myself from breathing it all in. WARNING POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS - do not waste your money on this model!!! If I could give a 0 star rating I would. I brought this vacuum 2yrs ago after my original 13yr old Dyson died, I wish I had listened to a friend who had one when making this purchase, it was her first Dyson and she kept saying it was rubbish and I was like how can a Dyson be rubbish after having ours for 13yrs and not having any issues with it. I also believe the suction on this model is extremely poor compared to the older DC23. The storage of the the Dc23 was also so much better where as this one is a big space waster. If I had my time again or had known about the 45day money back guarantee I would have returned to for a full refund.
I bought this after my old dyson wore out after 15 or so years and am so disappointed in it. I bought it to cooe with pet hair but it won't pick that up at all on carpets. The black bristles on the roller head wore off within weeks and the roller hardly spins any more. I did learn how to take this apart and sometimes I get the spin back but sometimes not . I looked at buying a new head but they are about $250. I could buy a cheap vacuum for that! The attachments from the old model don't fit the new which is irritating. The on-board accessory storage is a joke as everything falls off when you move it. I would love to have replaced it long ago but can't afford to, having bought such an expensive machine. I desperately need a new vacuum cleaner but don't feel confident ... MoreI bought this after my old dyson wore out after 15 or so years and am so disappointed in it. I've had my dyson for a few years, maybe more. It never worked properly from day one. Never bothered or had time to pursue the problem until today. Very weak suction on floor boards and my rug. It does just push the dust/fluff/dog hair around the floor boards and I have to physically pick it all off by hand and put in the bin. Upon reading all these reviews today, I didn't realise so many people were in the same situation as me. I agree with all the negative points made about the vaccum. Two weeks ago i took my dyson to a dyson repairer as it completely lost any suction it had. I rang today to see what the situation was and they told me they had to order a new motor from dyson in sydney. Very frustrating experience. The lady told me to get my vacuum from my service guy and send it to sydney and they'll try to fix it for me. It would take another 2-4 weeks for all this . But I need a vaccum cleaner now. I have kids and a dog and I've already been without one for two weeks. I'm going to have to buy a new vacuum cleaner today and I can tell you, it wont be a dyson. Thank you Dyson, for nothing.
Do Not Buy This Vacuum! It is the worst. Oh, it may do a good job for the first few months and then it will start to loose suction. You will find yourself vacuuming over the same spot literally ten times before that section of carpet looks "cleanish". The brush will stop rotating, so you'll buy another brush. The new brush bristles will be worn out in a month and the brush still won't turn by itself. Dyson will say that they are very sorry for your experience and it's not what they expect from their vacuum (despite hundred's of poor reviews here). They will tell you to go through the trouble checking wish list -but that cannot change the fact that this is a very poorly designed machine. It needs a changeable filter... and no troubleshooting it going to fix that. If ... MoreDo Not Buy This Vacuum! It is the worst.
