I recently acquired a brand new product from Dyson — the Pure Cool Me Personal Purifying Fan — and it’s been amazing.Dyson has been working on products that focus on cleaner, cooler air for consumers for quite some time. This latest product is actually aimed at ‘personal’ use for one or two people whereas some of Dyson’s fans are designed to circulate air through a larger area. The Pure Cool Me fan utilized Dyson’s patented Core Flow technology, which allows you to precisely adjust airflow. The fan is ideal for use on a bedside table, desk, or in a child’s room. The Pure Cool Me fan is not a ‘smart’ fan in the sense the you don’t connect it to a mobile device for control. The fan comes with a battery operated remote control that adjusts the fan’s speed and oscillation. When you pull the fan out of its box, you select a place for it, connect it to power, and then turn it on. Like most oscillating fans, you have the option to have it remain stationary and point at a single spot or person. When you look at the fan it actually resembles a sci-fi droid from a movie in my opinion. You can control the angle of airflow by manually adjusting the center of the dome. It can be moved up or down up to 45 degrees. The front of the fan has a LCD display that shows the mode of the fan as well as the speed. It will also show info on the filter and the timer. While I don’t have a good method of testing the air quality in my office, which is where I installed the Dyson fan, I do believe that it has helped quite a bit. I have left it on 24/7 for several days and it hasn’t seemed to be a problem for the fan. It hasn’t felt hot or seemed strained in any way. My office is a main thoroughfare in our house and people are constantly walking through it. This kicks up dust and other air particles that are hiding in the carpet. I’ve noticed that since I’ve had the fan running in the office that dust hasn’t been collecting on table tops as much and the air just seems less stagnant. The fan itself is incredibly powerful and it’s helped me on more than one occasion when I’ve overheated. At this point it’s difficult to say whether or not it’s worth the investment since it’s quite expensive compared to other air purifiers and fans, but I do believe it will last much longer than its rivals.

This Pure Cool Me is yet another awesome Dyson product added to our home. The fan is surprisingly strong for the size, even more so than the blue & gray heat/cool fan we currently use in our bedroom. This new one is a bit quieter, and also an air purifier, which is a great addition. It has an LED screen that lets you see when the filter needs to be replaced (see attached photo) simply by pressing the " i " button on the remote. The LED also dims in dark rooms, which is awesome! I currently use a scrunchy to block the bright blue light our other Dyson fan omits into the bedroom. I am very sensitive to any kind of lights while trying to sleep, so this feature is going to save me the headache of trying to cover it without also covering the sensor for the remote to ... MoreThis Pure Cool Me is yet another awesome Dyson product added to our home. I am very sensitive to any kind of lights while trying to sleep, so this feature is going to save me the headache of trying to cover it without also covering the sensor for the remote to work. The remote is almost identical to our older model, which still has the original battery btw, but this one is magnetized and sticks to the front of the unit. The fan has a very nice range for osculation, and unlike our previous model, you can tell where the center is, for better positioning. To change the direction of airflow vertically you simply slide the middle sphere up or down. You can set a timer for it to go off in: 30mins, 1hr, 2hrs, 4hrs & 8hrs. I will probably never use it however, as I need white noise while sleeping, so the fan stays on ALL night, year round! I cannot wait to see how well this fan cools our bedroom once the hot weather arrives here in Michigan.Sidenote: Our Dyson heat/cool fan was bought in early 2012, 7 years ago, it has been used EVERYDAY during that time, and is still going strong, with the original battery that came in the remote! That says a lot about the longevity of their products.

The entire unit is only 16in high, so the adapter is more than 25% of the height. Maybe Dyson went with an external adapter instead of an internal one like the other towers to keep the size small. However, when we compared the footprint to the other towers, the difference is negligible and didn't seem worth the trade off. Seriously, see the picture, the adapter is HUGE.It also doesn’t feel like the most elegant of designs. To adjust the direction of the airflow, you manually push the disc at the top of the unit. It feels and sounds a bit clunky. When I got the tutorial, the Dyson rep emphasized that this is meant to be a one person unit, if you set it on your side of the couch/bed/desk/whatever, the fan and purifier only cools and purifies the area immediately surrounding it.With that being said, there is no app capability, which I have gotten accustomed to with the hot cool link. It is also nice to be able to have a back up method of controlling the unit, especially if you have kids that like to play "hide the remote."Similar to the fan tower, there is a small window where you are able to see the air fan speed, set a timer (up to 8 hours) and see remaining filter life.Functionality wise, it does what it is supposed to do, and does it well. The fan is quieter than the hotcool link, but louder than the fan tower. At low levels, 3 and below, it creates a comfortable breeze, but I don’t think I’d ever sit next to it and have the fan running at anything above a 3. If a room ever gets that warm, seems to make more sense to have the AC running, or run a fan capable of cooling the entire room, rather than just the space immediately around me. Since there is no air quality indicator, I cannot attest to the air purification abilities, and with our other air purifiers, our air quality is always in the “good” range anyway.Overall, I’m not sure if I would recommend this unit. While it functions as advertised “filters the air that cools you”, I just don’t see the utility of it. Having used the other products, I can much more readily recommend one of those. The tower and link units have the ability to have a diffused or direct airflow, so you can also cool (or heat) a concentrated area without affecting others, and everyone will benefit from the purified air.

Yet, it is capable of capturing of 99.95% of ultra-fine particles in the air with the exceptionally amazing activated carbon and glass in the HEPA filter. The filter life now is displayed on the LED screen on the machine, and the remote nicely sticks to the curves of the body of the fan.It is a product made to give a burst of cool and fresh air to a single person. It works perfectly with its directional blast or air. And with negligible sound levels, it is a quiet way of keep yourself cool when working from a desk or trying to sleep on a hot night.

Dyson's best small fan for personal use
23 September 2019

Dyson trial participant: I already own 2 other Dyson fans i.e. the original model and the more recent pure hot+cold link; so I was interested to review this fan in comparison. I have to say that I am blown away (pun intended) by both the aesthetics and performance of this newest model.Aesthetics: Firstly the gunmetal feel and finish is very discreet and blends in well. The fan is small enough to sit on a desk/bedside table and I like that there is now a magnetised plate for the remote to attach to. Unlike my other Dyson fans, this one has a small slimline power pack that plugs into the mains outlet (like the Dyson handheld vacuums). I quite like the look of the LED panel at the bottom of the fan as well. I quite like the look of the LED panel at the bottom of the fan as well. It doesn’t have a nighttime (dimmed) setting but it’s brightness didn’t cause me any issues at night.Fan performance: The ball-like mechanism at the top of the fan is very good at creating a focused stream of air and the air is noticeably cool. Cranking it up to it’s most powerful setting produces a very strong flow which will definitely come in handy during the hot summer months. At the moment I’ve got it sitting on my bedside table and i think it may very well negate me having to turn on my aircon except during the most hot/humid of nights.Things to note before buying: The remote is integral to using this fan. Without it, the only thing you can do on the fan itself is press the on/off switch at the back of the base and change the flow from wide to focused by shifting the ball at the top of the fan. Also, the Dyson app does NOT work with this fan. At first I thought this odd, but after using it for a while, it was much easier to just reach out and grab the remote of the front of the fan. Given it’s a personal fan, it should always be within reach of it’s user. Also, I can't really comment on the purifier functionality of the fan at the time of this review.Summary: I think this is Dyson’s BEST small fan yet. I think they have nailed the balance between size and performance. How could it be improved? Obviously a warm air mode would be perfect for winter, and I’d like to see it (and other Dyson fans) provide support for Google Assistant or Apple Home.

Great Purifier but....

I own the previous generation Dyson Pure Cool Tower that sits in my bedroom. I'm very happy with that product so was excited to received this Pure Cool Me unit. This "Me" version is marketed as a personalized mini air purifier/fan, however I find the size too large and bulky to be placed on my desk, next to my nightstand, or on a side table next to my sofa as seen in the product photos. I've tested this units on the kitchen floor and it was effective at clearing the cooking smell and circulating the air. The unit is quiet and I like the circular LCD screen that provides a graphic interface rather than a numeric value as seen in previous generation. It's currently position as the entry model, but based on it's effectiveness it may performance on par as the mid tier ... MoreI own the previous generation Dyson Pure Cool Tower that sits in my bedroom. It's currently position as the entry model, but based on it's effectiveness it may performance on par as the mid tier product for small to medium sized rooms. The biggest challenge this product faces is it's price point when compared against the previous generation Dyson lineup. For $50 less you can get the previous gen Pure Cool Tower (good for big rooms), and for $50 more you get the previous gen Pure Hot+Cool Link. It really depends on your need but Dyson got all the ranges covered.Personally I wouldn't use it as a "personal" purifier that sits an arms length away, but would place it in the corner of a small room as a "room" fan/purifier instead. Dyson should have marketed this "Me" product for babies/kids room as the shape is round and cute, product is easy to use, and can be very effective at cleaning/cooling air for small kids rooms or nurseries. All in all, I'm happy with the product, I plan on putting it in my daughter's room next to her doll house. For office cubicle, this "Me" version will be a perfect fit. For bedroom, guest room, living room or home office i'd recommend upgrading to the Dyson tower or the fan and skip the personal "Me" version.

Great if you stick to its 'personal' small space ticket. Some issues when you push it further.

Pros:- Constant noise: No buffeting and no squeaky pivoting and all the other annoying sounds you can get with a pedestal fan- Perfect, relaxing white noise at the lower settings- Filtering seems to be top notch, air coming out of it is very very fresh.Cons:- IR sensor at base makes actually using the remote a pain in pretty standard placement scenarios- Noise is a bit intense / high pitch at higher settings- Mild engine whine at middle settingsSummary: Perfect for what its designed to do: Cool a person in very close proximity with a very mild relaxing noise, and filter a quite small space like a small bedroom / study with top notch filter tech. Try to push it harder and there are some concerns. The one thing that really gets me about this fan is the design - because that is meant to be what Dyson are all about. The IR sensor for the remote seems to be right on the base of the device, which means its easily blocked by say, a chair in front of the side table it is sitting on. Making the remote almost pointless. Very weird they wouldn't have put the sensor (and display for that matter) higher up.On the plus side: It gives a nice focused constant flow of air, there is no buffetting to hear or feel, just a nice cool breeze. It is definitely a personal fan, as it says on the box, even at the highest setting you wouldn't want to be more than a couple of meters away from it if you want to feel a decent breeze even at full speed. But within this, it is definitely powerful enough. It is louder than a bob standard pedestal fan for the same air force. This is to be expected given its size and the fact its forcing air though a (brilliant) filter. It produces a very nice white noise, though maybe a higher pitch than you'd be used to with a regular fan. At the lower settings though the noise is perfect, very relaxing, though you'd need to have the fan fairly close to get a good cooling effect. But for a bedside table while you sleep application, I think this fan/filter is perfect! At the middle settings there is a mild engine wine sound which is audible over the air noise (at higher settings its overpowered by the air noise), which isn't ideal. It is very mild but I'm expecting perfection from Dyson. If you're primarily after a filter, it is very quiet at the lower settings down to basically silent at the lowest setting - though you would definitely want to limit filtering to a small room at these speeds.

Interesting design with surprising performance

The Pure Cool Me is a really clever idea. A fan and air purifier in one. The design is definitely unique and at first glance you are not really sure what the thing is or does. I do have to say that it does output an impressive amount of air from the small opening in the dome and is relatively quiet as well compared to a traditional fan. At the lower speeds you can barely even hear it while still feeling some airflow. The oscillation feature is really nice when using as a cooling fan and the way the airflow can be directed up or down is really neat as well. The filter is easy to access by pressing the two buttons on the side to remove the dome. The filter unit is also very solid and well made. Hopefully it doesn't have to be replaced very often because I am guessing ... MoreThe Pure Cool Me is a really clever idea. A fan and air purifier in one. Hopefully it doesn't have to be replaced very often because I am guessing that it would be somewhat expensive to replace. The LCD display, which displays air speed (1-10), sleep timer, and filter life is nice and bright and it also seems to auto dim when the room is dark which is nice. I also really like the remote which is nice to leave on a nightstand or somewhere for easy reach to change fan settings. The remote stores on the side of the unit when not in use via a magnetic connection which is a nice feature, I just wish that the magnet was a little bit stronger as it is very easy to bump it and knock the remote off. There is a power button on the back of the unit to turn it on but all other controls must be done using the remote. This is also a potential issue if you ever were to lose the remote or if it breaks you would be mostly unable to control the fan.One complaint would be the power brick design. It is a very awkward bulky thing that it is built into the end of the power cord and has a very unusual shape. It sticks out about 3 inches from the wall making it very difficult to plug into a wall outlet having a piece of furniture against it. I needed to us an extension cord to plug in behind a bookcase even though the unit's cord was plenty long enough.

Nice but left feeling a little underwhelmed .

Dyson Trial participant. As a trial participant I was excited to be selected for a new product trial, but my wife and I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the new Dyson Pure Cool Me. As a big fan (no pun intended) of Dyson products in general (we own 7 products) we found it had to think of the right place to utilize the fan. We did end up using in the master bedroom on top of the tall boy aim down at our 3 month old's cot about 2.8m away and while it did produce a nice breeze, we never really needed to used it above levels 2-3, due to the nice out side air temperature. As for build everything is on point as usual with Dyson products, bar the center dome which felt a little cheap compared to the rest of the body. The upgraded LED small screen was a nice touchThe reason for feeling a little underwhelmed by this products I guess would be because we already own a Dyson Hot+Cool Link Purifying fan Heater and being able to control that unit, which is already 2 years old via the Dyson app and set start/stop times and also see the filter life and all the other many features available on the app makes the justification for someone to lay down $499 on this purifying fan a hard swallow. If this fan had the app availability where you could you could monitor room temps and start stop times and be able to monitor air purity along with filter life, I think that would be a big big plus. Till then I would rather spend a extra $200 and by the Dyson Hot+Cool Link Purifying fan Heater, because then you get the added use of being able to utilize the fan for a heater in the winters, as we do and have it in our 2yr olds bedroom.Put simply, if you want a fan for home which also purifies your air, than this is the product for you, it still a nice little unit!

Unique personal space specific
1 April 2019

I received this product two weeks ago. I had been searching for a hepa filter unit for my work cubicle. I searched but they are all designed for room specific air volumes. This unit specifically fits the situation because the direction and flow can be targeted to the user, can't find another unit that does that. The device is quiet, air speed 10 is very powerful, much more than I could ever need. I have been using it at speeds 1 and 2 with the oscillation. The tiny color LCD is quite impressive. The simplicity of the information displayed with the images is very easy to understand. The silver colored remote is the standard design with other Dyson products. This remote feels lighter, almost flimsy compared to a black and a white one I currently own for my other Dyson fans. The size of the unit initially appears rather large for a personal space air purifier but once I discovered how powerful the air speeds the unit can achieve the size becomes relavent. The design is rather interesting. Once you use it you realize it's purely functional unlike my first reaction after unboxing it. When I took it out of the box and set on the table my first thoughts were: small trash can and then a small observatory (white colored unit)! I have been using this device 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday for two weeks now and love seeing it in use, love the clean air I'm breathing and love the quiet cool, soft, pleasant air that blows on me. I put some effort into living a healthy life from exercising, eating consciously and good hygiene. I had no idea this device would fit into that circle of my healthy lifestyle, thank you Dyson for making this device!
