I love Dyson, and this vacuum was supposed to be a great addition to the family! However, from the start it was the black sheep, never working correctly always clogging and finally just stopping charging. I finally figured out that the mechanism that connects the vacuum to the wall mount was broken....unfortunately it was outside the return date. Dyson the company I love so much wanted me to find a REPAIR place to bring the Vacuum to. Where I live there are three, TX has three LOL, the closest one was 5 hours from my house. When I told them there was no way I could afford to drive 5 hours and stay in town while they spent DAYS fixing my vacuum that I paid nearly $800 for....they told me that was all they could do for me. So I have a broken vacuum, and a broken relationship with Dyson...and kind of with QVC for that matter. I don't think I will be buying another Dyson vacuum from QVC because I feel like I did not get what I paid for. I would not recommend buying this vacuum for lots of reasons, most of them brought up by other people...the attachments leave stuff in them, dropping the stuff back on the ground when the vacuum turns off...for a "PET VAC" it certainly does not like HAIR, constantly clogging when pet hair is picked up...the filter is a constant hassle, needly cleaning with water after EVERY CLEAN or you risk the motor getting to hot and making this odd noise....I just think overall this was a prototype vac that they have improved upon with other vacuums and they made a LOT of money off of us SHEEP who bought the DYSON NAME....

I've had Dustbusters before and also a Dyson Ball vac from more than 10 years ago. The Ball is a great vac but because of the cord it doesn't get taken out very often. The Dustbuster's battery died twice and are not replaceable, and they are only good for small cleanings. The cordless Dyson V8 Absolute that I got is a real game changer. Pull it easily from its dock, vac up a large area, put it back. Easy peasy. Minor things: you need to get used to holding the trigger down to keep it vacuuming. Dyson should probably think about changing that. And, the attachments with the long bristles really need to be used in Max mode because the long bristles mean the low power suction doesn't pick up too much; is shorten the bristles if I were Dyson. Other than that it's been great. My brother has an older model (V6) I think and the battery died on him after a few years, but he got a replacement which requires opening up the case. This doesn't seem like a big problem to me so long as they keep making a compatible battery. All in all, I'm loving it and the house is definitely cleaner because of how low the friction is to start vacuuming.

Also surprised that for the price, they don’t include some sort of storage bag or box for all the loose attachments. if I decide to keep this, I will have to purchase some sort of container to store them. I also found that the hand held portion of the vacuum gets heavy if you use if for longer than a minute or two. And floor attachment seems to have a mind of its own as far as what directions it wants to go … trying vacuum under furniture it keep turning sideways. Will decide after I test out on upholstery before I decide whether or not to keep this vacuum. But it’s not looking good so far.

Great but no so great

I've been using this product for a little over a month. My first initial reaction was that this product is just okay. A few weeks later my feelings haven't changed. First thing I noticed was that the battery life isn't great. On regular mode I can get the entire house (minus one carpeted room that's about 120 sqft or so) vacuumed and still have a some battery life left. Our house is about 1500 sqft. What I really dislike is that on the max suction mode the battery lasts about seven to 10 minutes on a full charge. I understand that it is high battery usage but on heavy cleaning and dusting days this is frustrating. I understand that it is high battery usage but on heavy cleaning and dusting days this is frustrating. After a regular vacuuming session I have to wait another five hours for this thing to fully charge just to use it another few minutes in order to get dusting done which is extremely inconvenient. If Dyson would have made it with the option to work while on the charger / still plugged in it would have made ALL of the difference. I haven't used it on the one room in our house that is carpeted and I honestly don't know if that is even possible with any of the connections. It didn't come with a user manual like all other products electronic products that I have purchased. It did have a sheet that gave you a link to an online user manual but I am more of a paper in my face type of person. I have having to click through links to find what I need. It does come with quite a few connectible pieces. I don't really know what the difference between a few of them are or what they're even called but I haven't had any issues using them so no complaints with those. The item itself is extremely convenient and easy to use. I REALLY wish that it came with maybe a retractable chord to plug in when the batter life isnt sufficient. I think for the price it's not worth it. Overall; three out of five stars, mainly because of the battery life and lack of a proper user's manual.

I got this vacuum on sale on BF. When I received it a few days later I decided to time the battery time, recharge time and test the suction in my different surfaces. I have wood floors, a couple of Ruggable rugs, 1 wool rug, 1 jute rug, 3 shaggy bath rugs and 2 rubberback mats. The battery lasted 25 min using it on regular and max power continuously. The full charge took hours. I tried to use the machine after a 27 min charge and it lasted less than 1 min. The suction is amazing though and you definitely feel when it's time to empty canister. . I had vacuumed my whole house everyday before receiving it and I was amazed how much dirt the Dyson sucked up still. It doesn't like shaggy rugs. It vaccums one of my ruggables with no issues but it gets stuck everytime on the other. It works amazing on wood floors. Love all the attachments included for buying directly from Dyson. After Thanksgiving my home was pretty messy from family visit and my adorable but super shedder granddog Golden Retriever. This vacuum simply could not have vacuumed all 1900 square feet of my house without many charges and many canister emptying trips. That's why I was thinking of returning it. I have changed my mind though. This machine works great for maintaining the house clean, specially when I don't need to vacuum every room everyday and the machine can be charged up between uses. It is super easy to use. It's light. It moves amazingly thanks to the Dyson ball technology. The canister is easy to empty. The accessories are easy to change. These reasons make it worthwhile for me to keep it for the amount I paid on BF. I don't think I would keep it though if I had paid $499. I would probably chosen to install a $3600 vacuum system in my home instead for sure. I still might do that but this Dyson will come in handy still for small jobs. So I guess what I am saying is this cannot be your only machine unfortunately, unless you live in very small place. Dyson was great with delivery and keeping me informed by email about my purchase, product instructions, warranty etc. I would advise people to buy straight from them and not other stores.

Got the Animal V8 about a month ago. Absolutely love it! I actually enjoy going to get it off the wall for a quick clean up or vacuum. I have a 1900 Sq. Ft. townhouse and this vacuum is perfect for it. My townhouse has three floors so very convenient not to have to mess around with a cord. The attachments are great and work well and I find myself using them all the time. I find the performance of the vacuum to be very good. The suction is great and I have not run out of power yet but I must admit that I normally do not vacuum the whole house at once. I just vacuum where needed. I normally use the standard high suction setting while vacuuming but will hit the max suction if anything is stubborn. I guess I understand if you have issue with your fingers, arthritis or other, where this might be an issue however I love the trigger. It is really just part of the handle and takes almost no pressure to use. For me I feel like I am just holding on to the handle. Having a trigger also saves batterie power and time when you are moving from area to area. For me I consider the trigger very convenient and much better than having a switch you have to constantly turn on and off. Sorry that I ran on and on about the trigger but reading about the trigger concerned me before I bought my V8. I read all the reviews and I thought people would like to hear other users comment about the trigger if they do not see as a negative. Anyway, I love my V8 and it fits my needs quite well.

Pros and Cons
15 August 2022

Pros: Gets into otherwise impossible spots to clean The high suction mode works great Lots of attachments Cons: Short battery life Takes awhile to recharge Need to hold power button constantly Regular suction mode not very strong This is my 2nd Dyson, my original 2009 Ball Multi-floor is still going strong. I needed something easier to vacuum stairs with and get to places the corded version couldn't. The V8 covers that need but brought my expectations down a notch. Some of my comments here are mentioned in other reviews but worth noting. The regular suction mode is fair. I'd expect the high suction to be standard mode. The battery life is disappointing, especially if using high suction but even when switched between the two modes, don't expect to get much done ... MorePros: Gets into otherwise impossible spots to clean The high suction mode works great Lots of attachments Cons: Short battery life Takes awhile to recharge Need to hold power button constantly Regular suction mode not very strong This is my 2nd Dyson, my original 2009 Ball Multi-floor is still going strong. The battery life is disappointing, especially if using high suction but even when switched between the two modes, don't expect to get much done without a long recharge. I was baffled about the lack of a lock/hold on the power button. It doesn't take much pressure to activate but my hand would feel less cramped if the only thing I had to worry about was holding the handle. The V8 is wonderful getting into crevices, baseboards, areas way above my head and generally areas I've been wanting easy access to clean. It's amazing as an upholstery vacuum. Love not having to worry about a cord. All in all for me it's an expensive quick hitter for upholstery, small rugs, hard to get places. "Would you recommend this product?" There's no "Maybe" button below this review so I'll default to yes. Would something less expensive be comparable? Unsure. My first Dyson had me ruined to look at any other brands going forward.

Still My Preferred

I have been a Dyson owner since early 2005 (I still have that one and it still works). I was using the Dyson V7 Animal until my wife purchased this upgraded one for me. Right away, I could feel and see the difference! With 2 children, a large dog (that never stops shedding), and my wife and I, keeping our house clean is nearly impossible. The Dyson V8 Animal Pro has been amazing and extremely helpful! I only have 3 general complaints about it, which stop me from giving it a 5 Star Review. First, the container becomes full very quickly and having to empty it so often is a little annoying (I know the newer models have addressed that). Second, the stick portion is a little short for taller people like me and I don’t think that adding a second stick would function well ... MoreI have been a Dyson owner since early 2005 (I still have that one and it still works). Third, a lack of accessories! There are more attachment tools for my V7 than my newer V8. More directly, there doesn’t seem to be a hard floor attachment option. I have checked their website, but there are no hard floor tools offered for this vacuum (Dyson V8 Animal Pro). I would be particularly interested in the tool that worked on both the carpet and hard floors. Other than that, I really do love this little vacuum.

Vaccuming made messier and more time consuming

This thing clogs after cleaning a 6x8 carpet in a home with 1 small short-hair cat. The dust flies everywhere when I open the hatch and there is invariably dust stuck up around the top of the canister that I have to pull out by hand. Or I can release the whole canister, which is already dusty from opening the hatch. You can't just take off the canister, which would probably be less messy, you have to open the hatch at the bottom first which makes the handle and everything you touch dusty. Gross gross gross. The charge lasts for 2 rooms (13x15) max, but I have to stop multiple times to empty the nasty canister. I feel like I need a shower after I vacuum. The furniture attachment stopped working after a year, but we were able to take it apart, fiddle around and get it ... MoreThis thing clogs after cleaning a 6x8 carpet in a home with 1 small short-hair cat. There's no way to just turn the vacuum to on, you need to hold the button the whole time, which is a bit tiring. But mostly, I hate this vaccum because it's dirty, inconvenient and the suction isn't as good as my corded Kemore. Why or why did I give it away? It had such better suction, lasted indefinitely and wasn't dirty. It was just bigger, which since my apartment is small was unideal. But unideal is 1000x better than horrible. I loathe this vacuum. It makes me angry every time I use it.

Wish I'd Bought It Sooner!

I've reached the age where I have a favorite burner on the stove and appreciate appliances. I love my Dyson V8 Absolute! It's lightweight and supremely versatile. I love the charging wall mount that keeps it fully charged and ready to use on a whim. It's relatively quiet and has poweful suction that helps me clean upholstery, mattresses and floors. I can even use the extension hose and brush attachments to clean dust off of tables and faux plants. I have bad dust allergies and this vac has noticeably reduced the dust around in my home with regular use. Honestly, my only regret is not buying the Dyson V8 Absolute years sooner and underestimating how useful having a Dyson vac could be in a hardwood floored home. I always just assumed vacs were needed for carpets. My feedback to Dyson is about all the accessories. As a consumer, I don't know all the ways to use the attachments. I feel like you should have how-to videos on your website for each attachment, showing how it works and where it's best used. Not only would this sell attachments to consumers, but also educate existing customers and increase reliance on your products.
