With a minimal amount of prep (picking up dog toys and clothing) it does a great job with coverage and I have found the object detection does quite well at avoiding stuff I may have missed. And when my big dog doesn’t feel like getting out of the way (he is 100lbs+) the T8 just goes around him. The mapping functions are great and the fact that you can have the robot clean everything, just a room or just an area you have selected are very handy. And the multiple maps you can store are great as I have it clean the guest room up stairs whenever I am going to have company.I have found that cleaning the T8 about twice as much as recommended seems to help keep everything functioning great. The little cleaning brush helps immensely with getting all the dust out of the dust bin since it likes to build up in the corners. And I will say that it is fairly simple to clean, very minimal effort.A few down sides I have found but they don’t really bother me is that long hair does tend to tangle up in the brush rather easily but that take all of 30 seconds and of my time to resolve and I only have to do it once a week. The other problem is that if you don’t run the T8 regularly the bin fills up to much and the auto empty station can’t get all the pet hair out. But I can’t really say that is the robots fault.A bigger down side is the mop. I bought the scrubbing attachment in addition to the standard mop unit that comes with the robot. On the positive it is great for cleaning up small messes and if I run the scrubbing unit in the same spot twice it does a fairly good job of cleaning up around the dogs water bowls. The down side is that it is more like a maintenance thing. If you have not mopped my hand in a while it doesn’t really do anything to get the floor clean. I think some kind of cleaning solution would help with that. The major down side though is not with the robot itself but is the cost of replacement bags. I find they are far to expensive. Breaking down the cost it is just under 7$ a bag when you by the three pack which is about as much as I would pay for a vacuum bag for my normal vacuum and these are much smaller. If they could do something about that I would admit that I would really have no complaints about this robot.

One basically has to remove the protectors, install the side brushes, set up the docking station and place the Deebot on the docking station and power on. A QR code is provided to download the Ecovacs Home app to complete set up. Simply use the in-app scanner to scan the QR code on the vacuum itself or the one provided on the instructions. Be sure to enable one’s location to complete the instructions within the app to complete set up. The Deebot vacuum will provide voice instructions when it is connected or when one needs to proceed to the app to complete further steps. The T8 can be set up with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. In the Alexa app enable the Ecovacs Deebot skill, then sign in to your Ecovacs account and finally select the robot vacuum to use voice control. This is a nice feature for those that like the quick voice command ability to ask the Deebot to start and stop cleaning and to ask the Deebot to go back to its charging dock. The Ecovacs app has some great features beyond the obvious capabilities to start, stop and pause cleaning. Once the T8 has mapped out one’s home it will show a diagram of the mapping within the Start Cleaning option. Details can be seen of the square footage, time to clean and other data such as a cleaning log of all vacuum sessions. The T8 will send messages when cleaning is complete (with the option to move obstacles and re-clean those areas), tips on improving cleaning efficiency and if it gets stuck a request to free it. In our use thus far it has rarely gotten stuck. The performance of the T8 is improved by its use of AIVI or artificial intelligence and visual interpretation technology. It does an excellent job of identifying obstacles such as shoes, cables and other household obstacles. We have one room with a step down and the robot vacuum easily senses the drop off and adjusts its direction accordingly. In vacuum only mode the T8 will increase the suction power automatically when it is operating on carpeted floors. We had excellent performance by the T8 on bare floors, carpeting and area rugs. The T8 operates with a fairly low noise level compared to other vacuums we have had, but one will notice the increase in sound when in use in carpeted areas. There is also an interesting Video Butler feature that utilizes the front camera to allow one via the app to see live video, use remote photo capture, use voice message or remote control. A password is set up to control access to this feature and no data is uploaded to the cloud. An optional lens cover comes with the OZMO T8 should you not want to use this feature. Some of the customization features available in the Ecovacs Home app that really make the T8 an exceptional vacuum to use are the ability to utilize the mapping of your home to define “no go” areas for the T8. No more worrying about which doors are closed to limit a vacuums access. Also, set virtual boundaries to define specific areas and rooms for the T8 to clean. Some other additional settings available within the app are to adjust the vacuum power, water flow level and to set up cleaning schedules. To utilize the mopping feature simply remove the water reservoir and fill with purified water or softened water. Click the microfiber cleaning cloth into place on the underside of the reservoir and the T8 will now know it is ready for simultaneous vacuum and mopping mode. The mopping function is a great option for convenient cleaning for spills, dust control and everyday dirt. This doesn’t replace the need for a more thorough mopping on a less infrequent basis, but it does an excellent job of keeping floors spiffy in a quick and convenient fashion. Note that Ecovacs advises not to use any cleaners in the reservoir. Recognition of carpeted floors by the T8 enable it to avoid these areas while in mopping mode. With the modular design of the OZMO T8 it will be interesting to see some of the accessory items that are available to use with the T8. One is an Auto-Empty Station (automatically empties the Deebot’s dustbin) and the other is the OZMO Pro Electric Oscillating Mopping (up to 480 times per minute). The one feature I did not see on the Deebot was any notification via the app that the dustbin is full. It will give an alarm sound when the filters in the dustbin are dirty. There are less expensive options for robot vacuums, but the Deebot OZMO T8 AIVI stands out with the excellent performance it will provide in both vacuuming and mopping as it utilizes more accurate mapping and AIVI technology. The app is very user friendly and offers great features for customizing cleaning schedules, areas and vacuum settings.

Excellent unit, but not without its shortcomings.
13 December 2021

Great little unit that helps keep household relatively clean. Does not eliminate need for a full size vacuum cleaner as it can't get into all spaces, but reduces the amount of overall cleaning required. Not without its drawbacks, I have only been using for 1 week and have not yet tested mopping capability, and am yet to get the camera to function at all, always failing with a data acquisition timeout issue. Need to raise a support call to see if issue can be identified or maybe a firmware update is required. Otherwise annoying, but not a deal breaker as I don't particularly see a need for it when I can easily walk to a part of the house to see what is going on, but may be use cases for others. I would like the mapping feature to be enhanced so that you can design ... MoreGreat little unit that helps keep household relatively clean. I would like the mapping feature to be enhanced so that you can design your own areas / zones and create virtual rooms for cleaning. At the moment virtual rooms only identify areas not to be cleaned, but in open plan homes with large floor areas, sometimes you just want to compartmentalise certain areas for cleaning on a scheduled basis. Sadly this is lacking at the moment.

Good but would not buy again due to mapping inconsistency
10 January 2023

It's great when it works.I would not buy this vacuum again due to the mapping software design. It will modify the map on its own and reassign rooms, adding new letters and changing old room letters When this happens the schedule breaks and the vacuum starts behaving odd and cannot navigate to room, because the room doesn't exist anymore. It often gets stuck navigating from the dock. I have to power on and off a few times until it relocates. I would suggest another brand. I would not buy again unless they change the room mapping logic to stop changing the room map on its own without me knowing. Good vacuum, flawed software

I've had the Deebot T8 AIVI for almost a full year and we use it pretty regularly in our household. I'll start by saying that I am mostly satisfied with my Deebot T8 AIVI, however I give it 3 stars because it delivers less than promised and falls short on several points.tl;dr - the 'AI' is a joke, the mapping almost makes it amazing, but bugs in the software ultimately make even this great feature a constant frustration.AI Object Recognition - This is an area where the T8 AIVI disapoints. Prior to this we had a fairly basic Neato Botvac D80. The D80 was generally better than the T8 AIVI at avoiding obstacles. Prior to this we had a fairly basic Neato Botvac D80. The D80 was generally better than the T8 AIVI at avoiding obstacles. The T8 AIVI maybe knows how to avoid a pair of keys left on the ground (not a problem in my household), but it will run into your legs or your cat full speed and regularly pushes around the 2inch tall water bowl for our cat. Not only this, but it still gets stuck on the same furniture that our previous botvac struggled with. Since this is partially a software feature, perhaps they will improve it, but currently this is just a gimmicky feature with no real value.Mapping - The T8 AIVI does an impressive job mapping your house and dividing them up into regions. That paired with the ability to do specific area cleaning and integrations with smart home speakers brings you as close to the Jetsons as you've ever been. It feels great to tell Alexa to clean your kitchen and then watch as the T8 AIVI goes and cleans up just the area requested... when it works. The problem is that this map changes on almost every run. One day everything is great, the next all your room labels are gone. The following day the rooms themselves have been merged into new zones so you can't even just clean the kitchen. You can go into their app and set these up again, but that gets annoying if you have to do it every time. On top of that there are several bugs that sometime prevent you from being able to get your map set up how you had it before. Worst of all, the T8 AIVI is very sensitive to being moved and any manual movement (say it gets stuck in a corner) will cause it to lose the entire map. When the map is lost you have no choice to but do an entire cleaning over again. In the end this is still an effective botvac and we use it almost daily.I have not used the regular T8, but if you're considering the T8 AIVI, perhaps go with that instead and save yourself a few hundred dollars.

Great Cleaner, Terrible App
30 April 2022

I purchase this just over a year ago - and so have had plenty of time to figure out where it succeeds and where it fails.Firstly, the good, it does a brilliant job as a robot vacuum cleaner, once it has done its rounds the floors (carpet and vinyl) are spotless. Having two side brushes makes this superior to other cleaners that only have a single brush, and its ability to get right up in there on skirtings and corners is great. It picks up all sort of stuff and even without the auto empty bin (an extra $399 in NZL for some reason) it still does about 3 trips around the house before I need to manually empty the little internet bin. Its reasonably unobtrusive, it is loud but not offensively so. It picks up all sort of stuff and even without the auto empty bin (an extra $399 in NZL for some reason) it still does about 3 trips around the house before I need to manually empty the little internet bin. Its reasonably unobtrusive, it is loud but not offensively so. The mopping attachment that comes with it is basic and really just wipes the floor, if you want proper mopping back and forth you need the posh add-on part for that, which does an adequate job, but only just. The not so great, firstly I'll start with the mop, it really isn't up to much, it says you can only use cold water, which of course does nothing to shift say an oil splatter stain on the kitchen floor, so I've got in the habit of pre-spraying the hard floors with cleaner before sending this thing out. If you set it on maximum clean, max water flow it does an adequate job of mopping. As I said, the fact the auto-empty station is a $399 add on in NZL is a joke, it should just come with one - sure you don't absolutely need it and the little bin is ok for a day or three, but if you're going to be away for a few days, you want to disable the auto cleaning schedule otherwise you will be annoyed by notices about full bin and so on... which Segway's into the App. Its fairly obvious this app is made by someone in China, its functionality and use of language is at best strange though it has improved slightly over time. The biggest problems it has are that it takes time to create a map of your home, it uses a mixture of sight/camera, bumpers and a Lidar sensor on top to do this, and mostly it works very well - and the map will exist for a few days and then disappear or it will randomly change rooms around, make them smaller or merge with a room next door, the mapping function has been a huge bugbear from day 1 and it hasn't been resolved despite numerous complaints to EcoVacs about it. They claim you can save a map once it works it out correctly but I can't see a way to do that, so you just end up in the cycle every so often of needing to remap your house, restore all the barriers you've set up so it doesn't get tangled in your AV cables behind the tv, or get stuck in the not quite wide enough gap down the sides of the toilet. The app truly is the biggest flaw with the AiVIt8 - its just poorly done and poorly updated. You can set up schedules which do work well, until of course the map goes awry and then your schedules are stuffed to.What I wish I'd known: To buy the auto empty bin at the start or that is was included to being with. That you need to use hot/warm water for mopping and you should spray floor cleaner before you set it off to clean the floor. You will need to redo the maps at least once or twice a month, it is an automatic process but it still is a frustration. If you have an outside area where the floor is level between in and out, make sure your doors are closed otherwise it will map your outside as part of the inside and try to clean accordingly. You will struggle to find accessories for it in NZL, no one seems to sell them despite so many retailers selling the cleaners, when the brushes run out or the filters need replacing your left with buying knockoffs from china, or paying a stupid amount to get overprices legit accessories shipped from AU. Once in the past year I managed to find a pack of them on Mighty Ape, but only once and they have never been back in stock again. Ecovacs tell you nothing helpful other than to buy them from Australia. So, would I buy a Robot Vacuum Cleaner again? Absolutely I would, its amazing the difference not having to hoover daily makes to ones life. Would I buy an EcoVacs again, no I wouldn't, its cleaning is ok, its mopping is meh, but the app and the lack of local accessories just makes this a frustrating product to own in NZL, other makers of robot vacs do more to supply the local market with a full range of products and accessories - EcoVacs do not do this.

Our House Has Never Been This Clean!
1 April 2021

I have waited almost a month to write this review just to make sure my initial impressions held. So far I have been very impressed with this product. I also purchased the auto-empty station and the Ozmo Pro mopping upgrade. There was some initial headache related to mapping the house for the first time. With every room/closet/bathroom open, the robot had just barely enough battery to complete the map. I recommend turning the suction down to its lowest level and disabling suction boost if you are trying to create a single contiguous map greater than 1200 sqft. Also the robot will not go anywhere that does not have wifi coverage so be aware of that.Once mapping was complete, I set up the robot to vacuum the main downstairs living space in the middle of the night ... MoreI have waited almost a month to write this review just to make sure my initial impressions held. Also the robot will not go anywhere that does not have wifi coverage so be aware of that.Once mapping was complete, I set up the robot to vacuum the main downstairs living space in the middle of the night every night. It has done this for almost a month without fail except for one night when it trapped itself in a corner because it piled up the corner of a rug.No-go zones and no-mop zones are very effective ways to keep the robot out of trouble.Scheduled activities are attached to specific maps. For example, I have the robot scheduled to clean the downstairs nightly, but I also use it upstairs a few times a week. When moving it back downstairs, I tell it to start cleaning so that it will locate itself, then cancel the cleaning order. This way the downstairs map gets activated and it can resume its nightly schedule. The vacuum does occasionally disconnect from Wifi and need to be restarted. If you have pets like I do, and hard floors, you may want to set up the robot to do a double-pass of certain areas. The lightest, fluffiest pet hair can sometimes get pushed aside by the exhaust air coming from the vacuum, however it tends to get pushed to the walls where it is picked up on the second pass. Also the auto-empty station struggles to empty the dustbin completely if it is packed too full of pet hair. With mine running every night, there usually isn't too much pet hair at a time to cause a problem.I definitely recommend the Ozmo Pro mopping upgrade. Whereas the base Ozmo mopping system merely drags around a mop pad, the Pro version actively scrubs and definitely makes a big difference. Also wetting the mop pad before sending it off to mop can really help, otherwise it takes several minutes for the spray from the reservoir to soak the mop pad enough to get a good mopping effect.Overall I have been very pleased with this product and as long as it continues to function this well for a long time, I will consider it money well spent.

Terrible unit- Do not buy from Ecovacs!
30 March 2023

I have had this unit for 2 years now, and it's been a constant struggle to get it to clean and empty properly. The whole point of a robotic vacuum is to make your life easier, not harder! I spent the extra money to get the self-empty feature, and if you have dogs, this is really useless. I can't say if it would really work or not without the dog hair, but it's easily clogged and never empties for me, forcing me to manually empty every day. The unit also cannot reliably dock itself. It tries for like 15 minutes every day, and 90% of the time cannot dock itself. The unit also constantly loses the map you created. Rebuidling the map and relabeling it in order to use the area clean feature is a time-consuming matter. Given that this happens regularly, it's unacceptable. ... MoreI have had this unit for 2 years now, and it's been a constant struggle to get it to clean and empty properly. These latter 2 problems seem to have gotten markedly worse with the software updates, as it was not always this badSo far as Ecovacs customer support goes, they do respond quickly by email, but offer no real solutions to the problems. For a unit that's some $800, I expect better performance and longevity than this. Ecovacs did offer me a discount on a new unit, but with this track record and the fact that they offer no fix for the existing problems with this unit, I have no interest in ever dealing with this company again.

Three second rule changed to infinity
1 March 2022

I like the job this robot vacuum does. I have it scheduled to clean every day and it has helped keep my place clean as I want to make sure the area is open for cleaning. It does a decent job of switching between the carpet and non carpet areas. Also, it has a mopping plate that sucks up dirt on one end and mops the floor on the other end. Also, it automatically avoids any carpet if the mopping plate is installed. I did purchase an upgraded mopping plate pro and that does a super job of mopping up and removing stubborn stains. Not sure why they don't make that standard because the mopping plate that comes with the unit works best on a floor with very light stains.
