Super awesome razor! I am new to DE shaving. I started with the Muhle R41 which is an aggressive shave. The EJ razor is less aggressive compared to the Muhle. I must say it is true when they say the EJ is a great beginners razor—less likely to nick yourself. Shaving with the EJ is like riding in a Cadillac—super plush and less likely to get hurt. Shaving with the Muhle is like driving a Ferrari—super precise but if you do not know what you are doing you will hurt yourself. The EJ has a nice light feel to it. It is easy to hold and handle; and it has a beautiful chrome finish to it—gives a nice luxurious feel. I highly recommend complimenting with a feather blade. Happy shaving .

Sick of using run of the mill multi blade razors with high cost replacement blades, I decided to purchase this Edwin Jagger little gem. Pure precision in the way it is made and the way it holds the blade perfectly square with no play, therefore total confidence in shaving with this razor. Amazed at its finish and the way it feels when shaving. Beautifully balanced and a good weight. The supplied 'Feather' razor blades are the sharpest and best I have ever used. Just reordered more Feather blades I am so impressed. A closer and smoother shave than any multi blade I have tried in the past.

Love this razor! I was nervous about trying a safety razor but I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s weighted so nicely shaving is pretty effortless. Very easy to change blades. Handle is very grippy especially when wet or covered in shaving oil. Definitely the smoothest shave I’ve ever had. Customer service was beyond amazing. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I was hesitant about going into a shave shop to buy my first razor thinking they served mostly men. Was super happy to have been so wrong. The woman who helped me was fabulous and I learned so much while I was there. Couldn’t ask for a better first visit!

Decent starter razor, but a bit too mild.
24 October 2018

Bought it as a second razor for other-than-face parts. Serves this purpose perfectly, as it is one of the least aggressive DE razors I've used. Got same razor with faux ebony handle on Amazon - had to return, as it was next to impossible to hold safely with soapy hands. Thanks to the store staff, as the let me actually wet my hands and the razor with water and lather (I needed a very non-slip handle as I was buying one for in-shower use) to find the one that suits me. Great razor for beginners, but not aggressive enough for a proper close shave (tried with multiple blades). Great for sensitive body parts, though. But for those who don't want to buy a more aggressive one as soon as you master this one (takes a week or two) I would recommend getting a Merkur one instead.

EJ Razors: The Height of DE Craftsmanship and Quality Control
31 August 2016

The first thing I noticed when I removed this razor from its box was its flawless chrome finish and precision construction. Even the Merkurs, which I very much admire, pale in comparison to the artisanship and aesthetics of these EJs. I purchased mine at the West Coast Shaving retail store in Chino, California, so I had the opportunity to examine several examples of the same razor and many of their other EJ razors. I have rarely seen such consistently superb quality control outside of the aerospace industry. In every single example, the fit was tight and precise, and the finish uniformly flawless. I have rarely seen such consistently superb quality control outside of the aerospace industry. In every single example, the fit was tight and precise, and the finish uniformly flawless. I was especially impressed with EJ's practice of applying perfect, highly polished, blemish-free plating to every surface of the razor, even those "out of the way" places that are only visible when the razor is disassembled. Some other manufacturers, including Merkur, tend to skimp on the finish and plating of the cap bottoms and other less-visible areas. Not Edwin Jagger. This razor is a functional work of art. The result is a tight and precise piece of equipment that, coupled with the right blade, provides a consistently smooth and superior shave. This particular razor came with a 5-pack of Feather High Stainless blades rather than the Derby blades mentioned in the product description. My personal preference is Astra blades, which yielded a smooth, comfortable and incredibly close shave in this razor. The weight and balance of this razor are different from those of the heftier Merkur 34C, and took a little getting-used-to. However, that didn't take very long. Another advantage of the superior finish is that this razor is extremely easy to keep clean and looking like new. I'm still an enthusiastic admirer of Merkur products, especially the 34C. But in my opinion, this EJ matches their consistently strong performance while besting them in fit, finish, and attention to detail.

Pleasantly surprised
27 March 2021

Years ago, I had used a cheap DH butterfly top, and it was alright. Being that I am tired of spending the money on disposable 5 blade carts, I decided to try wet shaving again. I did quite a bit of research and wanted to find something that seems to fit my needs of sensitive skin and a course beard. I decided on the Jagger DH89, and I am glad I did. They come with feather blades, which gave me a bit of concern as these are very sharp blades and my not be suited for beginners, but I was pleasantly suppressed. Just let the weight of the razor do the work, move in short strokes, and it resulted in an effortless, clean shave.

Simply amazing
14 November 2021

I've used Edwin Jagger products for many years and an airline decided to lose my case so my trusty razor and brush have gone forever. I found this one on the website and I liked tbe look of the handle as it offered a good grip. Came next day well packaged and the handle is just amazing. This razor I think would be ideal for a beginner or the more experienced shaver so a great all rounder I used a feather blade which I recommend you get when you order. I know people nowadays do a lot of online reading and if I could say if you are a new shaver to de razors this is the one for you The company is also very responsive to questions and are really helpful

Smooth, excellent finish
3 December 2019

I've had Merkur razors since I stared DE shaving 10 years ago and only use a 34C and a Merkur long handle. The EJ89 will be my go to from the 1st shave. It's incredibly smooth with my preferred blades. The final result is probably not much different, but getting there is. It's also very well finished. Only time will tell how it wears, but EJ have put effort into presentation that Merkur has not. Weight is lighter than a 34C and is more towards the head, which for beginners is ideal - you want the weight of the head to do all the work.

Very nice shaver at a realistic price.

This razor exceeds expectations. It produces a mild yet close shave with a variety of blades from Persona, Feather, Gillette and Astra. The fit and finish are excellent. I find the shaver well balanced. It feels comfortable in the hand. But the best part is the shave. It is smooth and close. I recomend this razor.

Wonderfully efficient. And fun to use.
19 May 2017

I found it increasingly difficult to get a decent shave with cartridge razors and the cost of the cartridges is just silly, so I decided to take the plunge and try a DE razor. I read every review I could find and the Edwin Jagger 89 series razors kept getting favourable mentions. I opted for a knurled finish to give myself less of a chance of dropping the razor mid-shave. I found it very easy to use, nicked myself slightly a couple of times in the first week and have managed without cutting myself at all ever since. The razor seems well-balanced, is stylish, easy to use and seems very reasonably priced. Best of all I keep getting wonderfully smooth and close shaves. And now I enjoy the whole process! Probably my best buy in years.
