This mesh system does require a modem some models of eeros dont so be aware of that. You can use your ISPs modem/router if thats all you have like I did. I have att so I ended up having to turn my eeros into bridge mode. So after the initial trouble getting them up they ended up working great! They easily give me 50 mbps (which is the maximum on my current plan) anywhere in the house now. My old modem and router combo still acts as an access point too! Device management is also easy from the eero app. This is a great product provides multiple layers of network protection at a convenient price but you can opt out of that after the initial setup. For the everyday person or for avid computer users this is a great price on an awesome product 10/10

I purchased this product, eero 6 AX1800 Dual-Band WI-FI 6 Mesh System, about 6 weeks ago for my Dad's house. Move all other modules to a central location at each floor or far end of home where internet is needed. That's it, the whole setup took less than 15 minutes. Now there is is internet in all ends of his home. No dropouts or slow connection, it just works, and everything connects automatically. Quite different from a lot of the competitors. The speed is exactly what he is getting at the main modem. I would recommend this to everyone at it's full asking price, but if you get it in sale loke we did, it is a STEAL!

Finally, freedom from forever tweaking networks!

First the obligatory background. Live in a small older half twin with a detached garage that we like to have service in. House has plaster/lathe walls with wire mesh throughout and aluminum siding outside, with myself, my wife, and two young adult kids all vying for Wi-Fi signals. And three years ago we “cut the cord”, meaning everyone in the house is streaming when home. We pay for 100mbps internet but generally only saw 25-40 mbps using my conventional routers which were always high quality devices - the last a Linksys WRT3200ACM and before that an ASUS RT-N66U. Had an old Proxim AP hardwired to the garage for signal there. When I saw these on sale here a couple weeks ago for $181…I said that’s it, I have to try it.Got them home and immediately got to work. ... MoreFirst the obligatory background. Downloaded the eero app, then unplugged the WRT3200ACM (centrally located on 1st floor near ceiling) and put the eero 6 “router” puck in it’s place, following the app directions as I went along. Within I’ll guess maybe 5-10 minutes total, I have internet and Wi-Fi reestablished in the house. I take the first beacon and put it upstairs in an outer-wall bedroom where we normally had no signal at the far wall. A few minutes and that’s up and running. We now have Wi-Fi throughout the house so I decide to try the second beacon in the garage. A few minutes later that one is alive, so we now have coverage in the house and garage. And what great coverage it was…At this point, I was seeing 115-130mbps average Wi-Fi speeds everywhere except the opposite end of the house upstairs, which was dropping to 80 or so occasionally and dropping to the 2.4ghz channel. (The other big plus if this system was that nearly everything was now using 5ghz, some devices we had that I thought weren’t 5ghz capable - turns out they just couldn’t see it with the conventional routers lol). Anyway no one was complaining but I knew the drop was there sooo…went and snagged a single eero 6 router as they were on sale, too! Took that second eero router and put it in the garage, using the existing CAT6 to hardwire it to the first and main eero 6 in the house. That also took that Wi-Fi load off of the rest of the system, ie the garage beacon isn’t stressing the house beacons this way. I put the beacon from the garage into a room on the opposite side of the house that had the weaker signal, and now everything is golden - it even helped extend good signals into our yard at both ends of the house. The simplicity of all of this was amazing. It’s funny because as a tech nerd, I impulsively want to say I miss all the tweaking that could be done with the conventional system…then I remember that’s what I was getting tired of in the first place. Plug and play, with full internet speeds everywhere. The band steering is incredible - as I said I’m seeing 5ghz on almost every device. The one downside is no USB ports for network storage or printers. Each “router” does have a second RJ45 Jack for adding network peripherals (like how I hardwired the two eero routers together) so you can get a little creative. I took my old ASUS router, for example, which has two USB ports and put it into AP mode and disabled the radios, then plugged it into the free RJ45 Jack on the garage eero. The eero system added it to the network easily, and I’m now able to use my external usb drives again as network storage on the entire eero network. Technically this also adds the 4 gigabit ports on the ASUS router as a switch, too, so that opens up more hardwire network options should I need them.Overall, I love it! Fast, reliable, and it’ll take more smart home devices than I’ll ever add. So far in my 30 years of maintaining my sometimes pretty cool home networks, this is probably the first time I said “wow, now I can just sit back and enjoy what it does for me.”PROS: Easy setup, awesome band steering, no drops, app makes it easy to visualize the network.CONS: Lack of USB connectivity ports, only one gigabit port on the routers (no ports at all on the beacons), higher level security mode requires a subscription (cheap but…).

my router finally died on me after many years. I was very satisfied with it. When I went to Best Buy to look for a replacement I spoke to a Best Buy associate about models I was comparing. When I talked to him about signal strength and placement he told me I should consider the eero. He was absolutely correct. The signal strength I am now getting is even. The thing I love about the eero is the fact that if I need to I can move one of the the two modules anywhere I feel I need a stronger signal. But so far I havent had to do that. I have added more wifi enabled devices to the network with no problem. It has been great not having a big clunky out of place looking router be replace by an almost unnoticeable one. Selecting a router.
13 November 2022

I went into Best Buy looking for 2 items, a router and a range extender. The router has a single use, transmit a video from a camera to an apple device. The 2nd device is to get internet access into a dead spot. The salesperson, Justin, understood exactly what I wanted to do and immediately suggested a single item, the EERO 6 mesh router, that would do both jobs. We are satisfied with the performance of the router in transmitting video with a short lag time. We have another task for the router and we will see shortly how that one goes. Justin did an excellent job of explaining the operation of the new router and how the router would do the job we have to do. A very good product, and an excellent salesman on the floor. Good job, Best Buy.

I think the eero 6 mesh wifi set is pretty amazing. Due to where I have to keep my router I have been suffering from weak signals in parts of my house. Our house isn't very large, but the cable hook up is in the southeast corner of the house. The two bedrooms on the north end of the house have always struggled to get a decent wifi signal. Earlier this year I got fed up with it and did some research and came to the conclusion that our nearly 10-year-old router must have been the issue. So, I swapped it out for a Netgear Nighthawk after reading rave reviews. Alas, it didn't help very much. Then, I read about wifi extenders and bought one of those. While this did give me strong signals throughout the house, the extender's network came with a bit of a lag, as it had to ... MoreI think the eero 6 mesh wifi set is pretty amazing. So, I swapped it out for a Netgear Nighthawk after reading rave reviews. Alas, it didn't help very much. Then, I read about wifi extenders and bought one of those. While this did give me strong signals throughout the house, the extender's network came with a bit of a lag, as it had to relay from the main network. This made streaming tv (we're cord cutters) difficult, especially if there were multiple devices running on the main network. I realized that a mesh network was probably going to be the best solution for our situation. In came eero 6 to the rescue! I had just succumbed to the idea of living with spotty wifi in our house when the chance arose to get this system. I thought I was getting pretty decent speeds with my Nighthawk, but the eero blew that out of the water. I ran speed tests in a few areas around the house to see how much of a difference, if any, the eero system would make. In the living room (where the router is located) my speed more than doubled. In the master bedroom, the furthest away from the router, my speed quadrupled!I know, impressive. What's even more impressive is that those speed numbers are indicative of only having the main router hooked up. I hadn't decided where I wanted to put the two satellite routers yet. After installing those, I was able to get speeds almost 10 times faster than the Nighthawk alone gave out to the master bedroom. I am even able to get decent speeds in the furthest corners of my back yard, whereas before I was lucky if I got any signal at all just outside the back door. One thing to think about before running out to get one of these systems is where you want to place the two satellite units. While they are wireless in the sense that there aren't any wires connecting them to the main router, they do still have to be plugged into a wall socket. This could be an issue if you have an older home with very few spare outlets. Fortunately, the routers are relatively attractive, so they won't be an eyesore sitting on an end table or nightstand. You can even turn off the LED light if that poses an issue. One thing that bothered me about my Nighthawk was how bright it made my living room in the middle of the night with all its very bright blinking lights emanating from behind the TV.There is one thing I have to criticize the eero 6 on and that is its instructions. They are very minimal and they leave out one key piece of information, which is to turn off wifi on your phone. I tried over and over for 20 minutes and could not get the router to connect. Then, I just happened to recall that when setting up a Ring doorbell you have to turn off wifi on your phone. Having that one step in the instructions would have saved me a lot of frustration.
