I have had my new coffee machine nearly a month. I chose the Magnifica because I did not need one with a milk attachment and wanted bean to coffee. It replaced our discontinued Autentica which no longer made good coffee. The Magnifica is so much better. You can adjust the aroma to your liking. The coffee comes out hotter and the water tank is more accessible being on the side. Coffee shop quality in your own home! Am absolutely delighted so far.

I wasn't particularly impressed with this machine. Instructions are confusing, so make it seem more difficult than it actually is. The coffee had a good crema but was over extracted in my opinion, despite changing all the settings to suit. It's water thirsty but I like the fact it cleans after each use, as it keeps it cleaner. My main criticism is that it's very heavy on the beans, you go through a lot!! Also you can't see if the hopper is getting low & it suddenly stops in the middle of coffee making. After only two weeks of use, 1-2 cups daily, it was asking to be descaled already. I think this machine is fairly high maintenance for what it produced. The steam wand makes good, thick foam but only for single amounts in a small jug. The wand doesn't reach, due to ... MoreI wasn't particularly impressed with this machine. Essentially, you switch it on, 10-15 secs later you press the Coffee button of your choice and a few seconds later, a cup of delicious smooth coffee is yours to drink. No mess, no fuss, just easy to make coffee. We have had a far more expensive De’Longhi that did the same but gave you a larger variety and had a dedicated milk attachment so every coffee known to man could be produced, but we only drink black coffee or espresso. When that machine finally died (after over 20,000 cups), we went for a Sage Barrista. So much faf and really very rarely the result you were looking for and, always messy. Yes this one uses more water as it self cleans every time you switch on or it switches off but in the greater scheme of things, that is not a bother. Highly recommended

Excellent Purchase

Firstly a thank you to the previous reviewer whose comprehensive review helped my choice in choosing this machine. The choice of these machines is large but I did not want to spend more than £400 on a bean to cup machine and did not want an integral milk carafe which do then need to be constantly washed! We like coffee but only infrequently buy it from the high street and wanted to get away from the endless dumping of small Nespresso pods into the waste bin. We visited JL in High Wycombe where many of the machines can be viewed and you can then see the size and functions, they are not small so if you do have a smallish kitchen then it's worth having a look in person as they are much larger than the pod machines.I found it very simple to set up even though the ... MoreFirstly a thank you to the previous reviewer whose comprehensive review helped my choice in choosing this machine. The choice of these machines is large but I did not want to spend more than £400 on a bean to cup machine and did not want an integral milk carafe which do then need to be constantly washed! We visited JL in High Wycombe where many of the machines can be viewed and you can then see the size and functions, they are not small so if you do have a smallish kitchen then it's worth having a look in person as they are much larger than the pod machines.I found it very simple to set up even though the initial instructions are basic, while the 2nd more comprehensive manual covers everything else in clear detail for everyday use and was easy to follow.Basically 3 coffee strengths and you can adjust the bean grind (you can use ground coffee) though I have found all the default settings to be fine, the water tank is so easy to remove and fill up, as is the waste coffee removal which look like small black puddings and go straight in the food waste as we try and do our bit for the planet! The milk frother is easy to use, though the spout is not long so we purchased a small 350cl metal jug which is ideal for this machine. We always use the large coffee option rather than the expresso and this is perfect for a barista style drink.Coffee is great and you get a lovely aroma throughout the day which is nice, the machine looks good and with a 2 year JL warranty what's not too like? I have ours next to a microwave, which I then put the cup in to for 20 seconds so the coffee is extra hot.One of the attractions of a bean to cup is you can experiment with all the different coffee beans available from the major supermarkets, that's half the fun as you experiment to find one you like and at about £2.50+ for a bag of beans, it's good on the pocket as well. Enjoy.

Great coffee maker with awful user instructions
11 October 2024

Great coffee machine but the instructions miss a key part of how to install the water filter. This renders the machine useless until you manage to work out the missing step. If you have a filter inserted but not properly installed, the machine malfunctions constantly, possibly due to insufficient water flow. Once the filter is installed properly, the machine works well. But it took me hours to work out how to do it, including a call to JL support which resulted in a replacement machine being sent.

Really good bean to cup
9 November 2024

Simple options for a simple guy.I moved from Nespresso Vertuo due to increasing pod prices. Once I found decent beans and the right grind setting, I was set. A nice feature is the additional ready-ground coffee section that allows us to switch to different beans or even a decaf option while the main bean container is occupied. The steam function works really well, made awesome lattes and cappuccinos which means I’ve done away with my separate milk frothing device.I got my unit on discount with a code that meant I paid about £300. Absolute winner at that price.Happily recommend this machine based on my experience.

Really good overall coffee machine
15 February 2023

Firstly, be prepared the machine does take up a fair bit of counter space. The machine itself is simple to follow and maintain (where to fill the water tank and so on). It is a great coffee machine and love the milk foamer attachment, makes great barista style coffees. My 2 only nags I have is:1. No warning its about to run out of water so it just makes you a tiddle cup of coffee and no when you fill the water tank back up it doesn't remember so your stuck with a small amount.2. No warning its about to run out of beans. You'll hear the grind then nothing and you just dread the weak bean water pouring into your cup.So as long as you check everything about the machine; water level, beans, empty the used grinds... you can make yourself a hassle free coffee.

Recommended Bean to Cup
13 April 2024

My first bean to cup and highly recommended- the taste and smell of freshly ground coffee is way superior to my previous trusty Delonghi ground coffee machine. If you prefer a barista style latte, then I recommend this type of machine with a milk frother spout - it is much easier to clean than when the fresh milk container is fully integrated and you have to extract it to clean after every use. I tried this in store and found the latter type very fiddly to extract and undo.My advice is it took me a while to learn this machine- so just practise. Personally I found the instructions not intuitive. Simple if you just want espresso - but to get the milk frother working accurately took a few attempts. Personally I found the instructions not intuitive. Simple if you just want espresso - but to get the milk frother working accurately took a few attempts. Wait for the quick flashing button on the frother icon - if you go too soon or leave it too long you end up with hot water in your milk.I use a simple milk thermometer - should be 160 deg for latte up to 180 deg for more froth. Instructions say not to use frother for more than 60 seconds - but this doesn't get milk hot enough so I put mine in microwave first then finish off with machine milk frother (I used to do this with my old Delonghi machine too).Other tips- you need to purchase water filter and descaler separately. If coffee not pouring through quickly simply change the grind to make it finer- this made a big difference for me.The machine automatically cleans the pipes when you switch it on and also off so just keep a cup there for the excess water. The visual prompts are pretty clear when water/ coffee beans need topping up or coffee grinds need emptying. Front side access for water top up much easier then my old one at the back.I suspect it was because I was trialling it so much but I was surprised that I had to descale my machine after only 3 weeks- those instructions were not clear and it took 45 minutes- a total faff which is why I docked a star. That said a further 4 weeks on and not had to descale again using it twice a day.Overall - recommended

Review of DELONGHI Magnifica Evo ECAM290.21.B Bean to Cup Coffee Machine - Black
16 April 2023

Good Points: This machine was bought as a replacement for the earlier Magnifica model. Which had sadly become problematic after 7 years. This model is very similar in size and design. The main update is the graphic panel in place of the buttons and dials on the old model. Personally I prefer this as its easier to keep clean. The machine seems to be a bit quieter than the old one. Although it still makes a bit of noise when grinding. The main improvement though is the quality of the coffee it produces. The Evo makes a much stronger more flavoursome coffee. It seems to brew the coffee for longer than the old model, so maybe that is why.All in all its a good machine that makes a good coffee at a reasonable price.Improvement Points: The machine has no off switch so ... MoreGood Points: This machine was bought as a replacement for the earlier Magnifica model. Not so good in energy conscious times.Due to this it is easy to accidentally turn it on which starts the heating, flush cycle. The settings menu is also a little confusing as it involves decoding which buttons to push on the panel to alter temperature, water hardness etc. settings. This is all laid out in the the manual but takes a bit of understanding. I suppose there's an app. for this in fancier models.

Very satisfied fussy espresso drinker - bravo Evo
11 April 2024

I'm quite fussy on my espresso so I did a heap of research, I didn't want a milk tank so options were limited, I could not be more pleased with the Evo. My research all pointed to Delonghi as being the brand that makes the strongest coffees in the auto range and this model being particularly good at crema. It only took a few coffees to get the settings right and now i enjoy beaut espressos at the push of a button, and incredibly easy to clean. My only 'improvements' would be; a stainless cup warmer (plastic one does not), have buttons that are less sensitive (they are easy to bump being on a horizontal surface) and for the X2 button to make double coffees for all coffee typos, not just espresso (Unless I am doing something wrong).
