Electro-Voice RE20 Black Broadcast Announcer Microphone

$637.41

(244 reviews)

A broadcast industry standard, the RE20 Broadcast Announcer Microphone with Variable-D from Electro-Voice is a cardioid dynamic microphone that delivers reliable, low-noise performance with exceptional clarity and definition. This model is styled in a sleek black finish. Tailored Response Response tailored especially for vocals with high sound pressure handling capabilities. Construction Rugged, steel construction with low handling noise. True Cardioid Pattern The RE20 features a cardioid polar pattern with no coloration at 180-degrees off-axis—the frequency response is nearly independent of angular location of the sound source, creating virtually no off-axis coloration, yet providing the greatest possible rejection of unwanted sounds. Internal Windscreen An internal blast and wind filter eliminates pop and wind noise at the closest proximity. In recording sessions or on stage, singers can "close talk" the microphone, singing with their lips almost touching the grille screen with no worry of "P-pops" or excessive sibilance. Bass Tilt-Down Switch The bass tilt switch corrects spectrum balance for use in long-reach situations and eliminates low frequency noise and rumble. Flat Frequency Respone The RE20's flat frequency response remains flat even at extremely close proximity.

There's a reason the RE20 is found in every recording studio and radio-station around. This is the absolute best mic for quick voice-over work. I use it with a Grace M101 pre-amp and my voice sounds incredible. Clean and pure. I should have bought one years ago.It puts my more expensive mics to shame. Just wow!

Do you really need me to tell you what this is? Yeah, it's that good..

This is a good microphone. It takes sound and makes it electric so you can here it. It's a good one because it costs a lot, but not as much as other ones that do the same thing, only better. You can talk to it, and it will here you. Radio stations use this one because they all have them and you have to have one. It has some switches on it because you need them when you want a gooder sound. I never use the switches because it sounds good anyway. If you need a microphone like this, this is the only one that is exactly what you want. I bot mine because it was broken and I thot it would fix, but I had to send it back to where they fix it. Gosh, it cost a lot. You can get one too, but don't get a broke one like I did. There are cheaper ones, but if you want to be like a ... MoreThis is a good microphone. Electro Voice RE 20
15 September 2020

The EV RE 20 is a professional microphone that I am using for my home broadcasting. It's a wonderful microphone. A dynamic mic used in a professional setting mostly in studio work. You could use this for drums or use it for vocals or many people use this for podcasting. It's an excellent choice. Thanks, Be Well Charlie

Great Mic for Crappy spaces
26 October 2020

Manufacturer Support:Haven't had to!Overall:This is a great frills-free, dynamic mic. It took me a few tries to find my personal sweet spot, but it's a great plug-and-play mic.The RE-20 is a very transparent mic, I use it with a Cloudlifter and it gives me condenser sensitivity with great protection from errants pops and ambient noise.Seems very well made, if not particularly nice-looking. I'd be worried if the internal foam popscreen got wet+moldy...I have an acoustically poor recording space, this mic allows me to record pretty much anything, while keeping ambient noise out of my track. Would recommend adding a good preamp.

Great mic

I've worked with the RE20 before, always with great results and finally got myself a brand new one.Works great on rap vocals, guitar amps, kick drums etc...All has been said before, so I'll just add the black finish gives it an even more badass look to complement the performance.

Holds its value overtime.... IF you take care of them.
4 May 2016

The RE20 is a very great sounding mic and excellent for rooms that have a slight to acceptable amount of room echo. It doesn't lose articulation if you get close to it. In terms of longevity, as long as you keep tabs on its maintenance, you will hold its selling value. I received three RE20's that had come out of a radio station and all of them had the dreaded "foam rot" (which is the eventual breaking down of the internal pop filter and element suspension). And all RE20's will eventually have this occur. I decided to buy the internal foam and replace them all, which turned out to be really cheap to get the new foam and easy to replace (easy for those handy with a soldering iron). This solved issues for two out of the three mics. I decided to buy the internal foam and replace them all, which turned out to be really cheap to get the new foam and easy to replace (easy for those handy with a soldering iron). This solved issues for two out of the three mics. The third one had the infamous "rattle" which occurs when you shake the mic. I found replacing the element to be the most cost effective solution as opposed to taking the element apart. It turned out to be half than the total cost of the microphone. As soon as that new element came, I soldered it in after inserting the new foam and voila! Essentially a new microphone with exactly the same sound as a new RE20. Now, I should point out, the internal foam rot occurs over a 20 to 30 year period, so if you buy this new, this is something you don't have to worry about. For those who want to restore the RE20 and save some money, this is something to watch out for. They do hold their value, so long as you keep up with its maintenance. And remember, the RE20's I received were from the late 70's to early 80's. To find them fully repaired and still working as it did back then is something ElectroVoice should be credited for.

Love this mic

This mic package is definitely the way to go! After doing so much research, the price was right at Adorama and the rest was seamless. Shipping was super fast, the mic and accessories work great, and most importantly, I feel like a professional podcaster now with this fancy new mic.

Perfect for Podcasting
14 June 2021

I had been using an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser microphone for recording my podcast, and it worked reasonably well. However, it picks up too much of the ambient noise around me, and I don't have a treated, dedicated studio in which to record. Therefore, I researched better microphone options for my scenario. The Electro-Voice RE20 seemed like the best choice after all my research, and I am convinced it is ideal for my situation and my voice. That obviously raised the overall expense of this upgrade, but it is truly a significant upgrade. For male voice, spoken word (and possibly other applications), the Electro-Voice RE20 Broadcast Announcer Microphone receives my very highest possible recommendation.

Why did I wait so long to buy one...
14 September 2020

I've been looking at these for years. I have a lot of mics, you may say I'm a collector of sorts. Many mics I have were purchased not working and I was able to fix most of them. I have known about the RE20 and it's rich heritage and sound. I broke down and bought it and have not regretted it. It sounds great recording kick drum, bass guitar, and many voices. It gives a very nice smooth "chesty" quality to a male voice, particularly baritones. There is virtually no proximity effect like many of my other mics. I should've bought one a long time ago.
