Electro-Voice RE420 Condenser Cardioid Vocal Microphone
The RE420 is a premium-grade, high-performance, condenser cardioid vocal microphone. Designed to reveal the exceptional detail and vivid clarity synonymous with condenser elements, it skillfully delivers the lyrical finesse required for expressive vocal performances. The sonic signature is rich, detailed and full-bodied, with a warm and clear low end, natural and present midrange, and an open, crisp and detailed high end. The cardioid pattern provides excellent acoustic isolation. Maximum feedback rejection occurs when a stage monitor is positioned 180 off-axis to the element. This pattern also allows for a comfortable working range around the microphone making expressive microphone techniques easy. The multi-stage pop filter consists of two layers of dense foam separated by air, which attenuates wind velocity caused by breath and windblasts. The high-pass filter has two positions (see drawing). The flat position delivers the full frequency band pass of the capsule. The high-pass position attenuates frequencies below 150 Hz. The internal shock mount isolates the microphone element from vibration and guards against handling noise.

As a working Cover band for the past 30 years the go to mic was the sm58. Or the Feed back king as I like to call it. However, it was the standard for $100. A lead singer I worked with back in the 80's and early 90s had an EV mic.I have no idea what model it was. It sounded great! Big and warm. He swore by this mic. Over the years I tried some EV's, they didn't appeal to me. When I heard about the RE420, and there are not many youtube vids about it, I wanted try it. THANK-GOD I made this purchase! I currently use the Sennheiser 945, the RE420 is way better! Just fantastic big bold warm tone. Great response with amazing clarity. I let three other singers in my band try it, and we all use Sennheiser 945. They couldn't believe the difference. We are buying 2 more. The RE420 is a GEM and makes you feel confident about your vocals. It makes you wanna sing your heart out! 5 Stars all the way.

I ordered this microphone from PMT online a few days ago .. I had the older version before which I used for many years .I found out that is now discontinued. This update version . I was well impressed . Just feeling it’s weight you know that’s it’s of high quality build . AllMetal construction. The sound is full body’s . The lows are solid as well as the sweet mids and highs. You can really sing into it snd it handles your voice very well.I would definitely recommend this mic . It has a beautiful airy open sound that cuts through the mix . Captures your sweet spot really well .10 out of 10 easily . I’mA singer/guitarist and this is a singers dream .Dave Mwaniki

This has got to be the CLEAREST mic I've ever heard! Truly amazing on vocals no matter what kind of voice you have. I went with the RE520 instead because it's warmer and the RE420 was "too clear" if there is such a thing. Best mic's I've ever heard when compared to other major brands. Worth every penny. Only complaint is a low volume ground hum. You won't hear it at a gig but it's there. EV I hope you're reading this.

Overall:I've been an EV mic user for years, in rock bands with the ND757 and 767 and most recently with the RE410 in countless acoustic solo/duo/trio gigs. i always loved the lift and clarity of the RE410 so when the 420 came out in bought it as an upgrade. Same vocal lift and clarity that I love with better pattern control and finish.
Awesome microphone! Got here fast! Thank you!
