A fun to play game. The story is okay. Good Graphics and sound effects, although I don't care much for the colorfulness like what is displayed on the front of the case. I like more realism towards the smoke and the like effects. But for what I may not like someone else might like the fancy colors. Characters look okay with lots of custom stuff to add for your character. The characters detail look could be better though. The vehicle detail is great looking and there is a nice big enough map to drive them on. Not as big as the GTA V map. The race difficulty that i've played so far is 50/50. Some races need to be restarted because of the vehicle control learning curve and some of the randomness of city traffic, etc. Some races I was able to finish on the first run. I want to start this review by saying that I'm in my mid-30's and have been playing NFS since PC and have always had a blast playing them. That being said, I don't understand the shade people have been throwing at this game. Honestly, it's really fun and brings a new and exciting twist to the franchise with plenty of new challenges. Initially, I wasn't a big fan of the comic-style characters and the additional in-game effects. But to tell you the truth, they don't detract from the game at all and they honestly blend in and become a nice feature the more you play. The angst of the characters may not be relatable to most, but the game is quite fun and addicting. The graphics, playability, map, and the story are pretty good. I read a lot of reviews before buying this ... MoreI want to start this review by saying that I'm in my mid-30's and have been playing NFS since PC and have always had a blast playing them. In fact, it's likely you won't win too many races no matter what difficulty you select. I do recommend this game to anybody who's a fan of the franchise, and to those who are on the fence, I'd recommend going for it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Not to mention, I got is for $40 two weeks after it released brand new, so win/win. Enjoy!

Got this with new PS5. The constant gen z slang gets very old fast. You have this super annoying Asian girl talking to you one the phone all the time setting you up for these high risk pickups. I want to punch her in the throat. Besides that character, you are bombarded with gen z slang from every character at every interaction. It comes off like your parents trying to relate to you by using your lingo. I'm not Gen Z, and generally hate them, their slang, clothes and attitudes. Guess I'm an old millennial, though i hate millennial stuff too.As far as the gameplay; the mechanics are more arcade than realistic which fits the animation like style of the game. Not a bad game but I felt like it was more targeted to the younger market with the cartoon like graphics. Grittier graphics would have fit the game better.Game played well, but I would've liked a longer story mode. There were some funny Fast and the Furious move references in the story mode, but blink and you'll miss them! There is a bit of a grind to get the cash up to purchase the more exotic cars, most of which you'll only be able to get after the story mode, that is if you don't purchase any upgrades. However, if you take on all the additional challenges in story mode and general play and not lose (which can be difficult), you can build cash up relatively quickly.A good variety of events, side challenges and activities will keep you going for a while all ... MoreNot a bad game but I felt like it was more targeted to the younger market with the cartoon like graphics. I am a huge fan of Need for speed since NFS carbon, and I gotta say this game is fantastic. From the in-depth customization to the intense cop chases, this game feels like its found its identity. We had a very weird period of NFS games that were trying to do something different. Titles like hot pursuit, nfs shift, rivals and the run tried to make the franchise into something different but did not stay consistent. Need for speed 2015 and heat was great but had handling issues that detracted from the gameplay, and let's not talk about how poor NFS payback did with its loot boxes. I was very skeptical with this NFS, I heard criterion was helping the development of this game and I immediately thought it was gonna be another hot pursuit or rivals. I was very skeptical with this NFS, I heard criterion was helping the development of this game and I immediately thought it was gonna be another hot pursuit or rivals. But seeing the trailer and watching people play it gave me a NFS carbon vibe, especially when they give you 3 cars (muscle, tuner, or exotic) to choose from.So here are my pros:-multiplayer is fun, and it gives you a reason to race people to build your garage and upgrade your car-the story is interesting, not oscar worthy but not boring.-Customization is good, just like NFS Heat-cars handle great, each car handles differently from each others which gives the game a more strategic approach-chicago setting is beautiful and engaging-graphics are beautiful-cars sound greatCons-cheesy writing-a little repetitive-grindy-same car list as heat with 10 new carsWhat I want improved-car list(I get no Toyota but add older hondas or Nissan)-new parts (Add blower for muscle cars)-different eventsConclusion:NFS unbound is the racing game we all want, this is what nfs is. Forza and turismo are realistic sims, NFS is an arcade racer that has customization. if you can overlook the grind, youll have a great time playing. EA, if you're reading please don't let this game die like heat. There is so much potential for DLC and expansions. DO this game JUSTICE AND KEEP IT ALIVE.
I really like the gameplay of this game. I wish there were more character customization options. The story has been interesting so far, but some of the voice acting makes it hard for me to really dive in to the story. The game also needs more options with the music. Hearing the songs one or two times isn't bad but hearing the same ones constantly over and over has been really obnoxious. I ended up just going into the game settings and turning the voices way down and the music completely off. I would much rather read captions and listen to my own music at this point. It is nice though that you can still keep the sound options turned up for car sound effects and such.
First, I only bought this game because Best Buy is the best and had it on sale literally within the month the game released. I truly enjoyed this game. The car modification were good but were way too similar to NFS Heat. It seemed like it was copied and pasted. The devs could have tried harder to change it up with some of the cosmetic options for the vehilces. The anime art style and graphics went well together. Also, the story of the game was a bit different from past NFS games, which was a nice change. Although, i did noy like the day/night week progression that the story is layed upon. It became very repetitive and was over it by the end of the 2nd week. Overall, it is a solid three star game but getting it on sale adds an extra star.
I don’t care what the other negative reviews are saying, it’s a really fun and good game. It looks beautiful on the PS5. It’s a challenging game for sure, you legit start from scratch and you’re basically building a car racing empire with a garage and a nice stock over time of cars. It’s a good story so far and I’m really enjoying it. It’s like the older Need For Speed games where you can hook up pretty much everything, brake pads, calipers, rotors, tires, engine, exhaust system, fuel injectors, I mean freaking everything. They have also a dope selection of cars to start with in the story. I haven’t played online yet, but a coworker tells me it’s really fun to play. I wanna wait until I’m more experienced to do that. I think a lot of people’s problems with this game and every one before this is that everyone cries about wanting it to be like Need For Speed Underground. Y’all just need to move on and enjoy this new game and whatever changes it brought to this franchise.
I did beat this game, and also 100% (platinum) the trophies, but that doesn't mean it's an amazing game, unfortunately. It is a solid, good NFS game, and the racing itself is definitely an improvement over many of the past games. However, I liked NFS Heat way more because that game had a lot of features that just made sense.+ Great racing mechanics (including the new boosting system)+ Great graphics as expected+ Plot is cheesy as always, but I did get a good few chuckles from the main story.+ The new anime style is a bit different, but I actually like it.- Money is a MAJOR grind in this game.- Money does NOT carryover from single player to multiplayer, nor do the cars you've purchased. This makes online a really bad chore, especially if you're trying to get the platinum trophy.- In Heat, when you switched between day and night, the heat level resets. In Unbound, it only resets the next day. A terrible mechanic that basically pushes you away from racing in the daytime and keeping it all for the night time. And again, with such a strong grind for money in this game, you have to replay several nights over just to get the cars and mods you want.- Engine audio is way worse in this game compared to Heat. I don't understand how they can screw it up, but it's very hard to hear your engine even with max volume in options and on your headphones. Instead, the exhaust sound is super loud, along with the cracks and burbles. It's honestly just a really dumb choice on the devs part as any car person is going to want to hear the engine nice and loud. There are YouTube videos showing just how low tone the engines are in Unbound vs Heat.- There aren't drag races in this game, but they added some new race type where you go around destroying objects while drifting. It's not particularly hard once you've learned how to do it, but it's really just a dumb race type in my opinion. All in all, if you're a big NFS fan, you will still get some enjoyment out of this game. However, don't expect it to be your new favorite NFS game.
This is a pretty good game. The graphics are pretty good. The gameplay is pretty good. The sound is pretty good. The art style is really cool. It's a mix of cartoony characters with realistic cars and environments. In action it's pretty neat. The entire game could be awesome but some stuff holds it back.It costs tons of in game money to do anything. You want to race? $5000 or more buy in, and you win some back. 1st place is usually a nice amount, but you still have to put out the buy in cash, so the winnings are cut down by that amount. Anything less than 1st and you barely break even or lose money. (there are some free races with low payouts)You have to pay a ton of cash to upgrade your cars. Everything costs a fortune, so you need to grind out more races to afford the upgrades. There are some other ways to make money besides racing, but not many.Delivery jobs are fun, but always involve a police chase. The biggest problem in the game for me are the chases. The cops are ruthless and quite ridiculous at times. So many times you will be in 1st place, streaking towards the finish line, and pow! A cop you don't see will ram you from a side street and knock you into a parked car or tree, everyone will pass and you lose the race. Very rage inducing.Another problem is just getting to a race. You find it on your map, and hope the cops don't see you on the way there, because if they do, it's a 10 minute or more chase trying to get clear of them, and hoping you can get back to the race without starting another long tedious chase. All in all its a pretty good game of you can overlook the annoying bits.
