I believe there are different reasons to use different belts, such as this belt vs. a leather belt. I can't use this belt in official powerlifting competitions; however, I truly love this belt. Let me start off by saying I do not like velcro belts. I don't trust them at all. The locking mechanism here is not just velcro. The little bit they added to make the belt self lock holds almost all of the tension, with the velcro as a sort of secondary support. This thing does not budge one bit. I'm confident enough that it could support me even if I did not use the velcro. I bought the red one because I love red and wow is it a STRONG red. I've been using it very regularly for a few months and I haven't seen any wear and tear. Another thing about velcro belts is that they slowly (or sometimes not very slowly) wear down the hook and loop structure. But because this belt has 2 locking mechanisms, the velcro hook and loops are not strained. This belt is inexpensive, looks good, offers support rivaling my leather belt, it's no doubt more comfortable than my leather belt, and it's easy to use. Amazing all around. This company knows how to make a quality product.

Lets start with the most important thing about getting a belt for working out, and that's the size. Do NOT go based off your normal jeans size. Be sure to measure! That said, this is without a doubt the best weight lifting belt I've ever used. I have tried the Valero ones with a plastic buckle and velcro. I've tried the double metal fastening ones, and all sorts of other ones. But, each belt has always had an issue. Whether it was the buckle being in in the way, holes giving way, stretching, velcro fraying and coming undone - those things happened. So far, this belt - which is used 3 times for sure and a 4th day a week if I'm going heavy on certain lifts - has stood up to literally everything I have thrown at it. That list: Squats, front squats, deads, sumo deads, cleans, clean and press, rack pulls, bent over row (the Valero buckle used to **** me off on thins one especially), military press, and a whole host of dynamic weighted exercises you want the back support for.It hasn't slipped, it hasn't come undone, and it hasn't loosened in the slightest bit. It is just as rigid and secure as it was the day I ripped open the Amazon box it came in.My favorite thing is how the belt locks. You look at this and think 'there is no way that simple thing will lock the belt into place.' You'd be wrong. You are dead wrong in fact. There is absolutely no play in the belt once it's locked in. And the only way you're getting any sort of looseness out of it is when you undo the velcro yourself.Absolutely worth every penny, and for any gym rat, it should be the belt of choice.

2nd time I ordered this belt from this company. First belt I got a medium. Size was a bit off since when I used it I felt like i was going to rip the velcro causing it to come loose. I'm 6'3'' 250 lbs male crossfit/bodybuilding workouts. 36 inch around the belly button. So I returns it and got a large. Now the large is so big that the 2 ends that coke together overlap so much that it stops short of even allowing me to obtain a secure fit. Also the tail (velcro portion that connects to the belt) is so king that is wraps all the way to the other side of my body. Making me have to awkwardly put it on and take it off with some shoulder impingement in the process. It also looks super silly when doing this and I feel like it's not necessary at all. Tried my best using it to this point but at the end of the day it's not good enough to keep in my opinion since I really invest my all into every workout. If you're serious about lifting, find something better. If you're new or intermediate to lifting then go for it. I've been training 12 years (I'm 28) and this belt I wouldn't recommend to my friends who train like I do. Many of these Amazon belts aren't any good, so just do some research before trusting in one of these off brands.brbrUpdated review:brbrI was contacted by Jason from element 26 and he gave me some great info about sizing. He sent me the proper size belt (m) and I've been using that consistently everyday while lifting. It works great. However with the use it has been fraying around the velcro and the velcro itself is becoming 'poofy and thick' but it is a good belt, maybe cause I sweat so much and take it off kind of roughly. But a good belt nonetheless.

Edit: I was able to get a small belt sent to me, and it fits a lot better and is a lot easier to adjust! I really like that the belt is meant to overlap in the front so that there is uniform support all around my core. I've seen a lot of people at the gym using other types of nylon belts that don't overlap in the front, so on heavy lifts, their abdominals kind of "bulge" through the gap in the front and it's clear that the belt isn't doing much to help with maintaining intra-abdominal pressure, which is the whole point of wearing the belt in the first place. I used to have a different weightlifting belt that I purposely bought a size too small so that the belt would overlap a bit in the front, but it obviously was barely big enough to even stay on, so I eventually gave it away. I also like the locking mechanism that helps to keep the strap in place; I've seen (and experienced) straps coming unvelcroed during a lift, and the locking mechanism helps to have that extra security and peace of mind.brbrThe only downside to this belt is that I ended up purchasing a medium size since my waist measurement was on the border of a small and medium (31"), and I figured I can't get any smaller, but I can definitely get bigger, so I decided to buy medium just in case. The belt still fits and does its purpose, but the strap is veerrrry long since I have to tighten it all the way, which just means I have to reach back a little farther to loosen the strap between sets. However, making this mistake is my own fault, and I think buying the smaller size if you were on the border was also the recommendation in the FAQs. So if your waist measurement is on the border between sizes, I definitely recommend getting the smaller size!
BACKGROUND INFO (feel free to skip if youd like)brbrI think it is important that I begin this review by stating that when it comes to weightlifting belts, Im in the mindset that they are not necessary. In fact, I did not think Id ever use one until a fitness company (NOT Element 26) offered to send me free weightlifting belt, no strings attached. I was hesitant to accept their offer because I wasnt sure Id even use the belt, but I decided that since the belt was free, Id try incorporating it into my heavy deadlift and squat days. I had recently noticed that my stability and form during these heavy days needed some improvement; maybe a belt could help. The day I received the free (not Element 26) belt, I immediately tried it on and I immediately knew that I would never be wearing the belt during my workouts. The belt, although well made, was not comfortable. My biggest issue with the belt was that the back was wider than the front; this creates not only issues with comfort, but also functionality. I returned the belt and, oddly, I found myself a bit disappointed. By this time, I had talked myself into giving a weightlifting belt a try and I was actually looking forward to it. That being said, I did some research and decided I would purchase a belt that I felt would best suite my needs.brbrTHE REVIEWbrbrI chose the Element 26 Self-Locking Weight Lifting Belt because it seemed to offer the most bang for the buck while meeting my specific needs (although a 10mm thick, leather belt with a single prong buckle may provide a lifetime of unsurpassed support; I didnt want the expense, nor the break in period typically required of these belts). From the moment I put the Element 26 belt on, it felt right. The width of the belt and the ability to tighten it exactly how I want it made the belt very comfortable. The self-locking mechanism made the belt feel very secure. The lifetime warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee made me feel like the financial investment (although minimal compared to some other belt costs) was well worth it. I was ready, and a bit excited, to put the belt to the test.brbrSo far, Ive used the belt for two heavy deadlift days and one heavy squat day. Please keep in mind that I am not a power lifter or anything. Im lifting about 150% - 200% of my body weight during these exercises. My needs may be different than yours. Not being a belt user in the past, I cannot provide insight as to how the belt compares to the performance of other belts, but what I can say is that the belt has performed to my expectations expectations set by the claims and descriptions found on the Element 26 website.brbrThe belt is well made and appears to be very durable. I am not concerned about the build quality of the belt; Im confident it will last a very long time. If something does go wrong, E26 offers a lifetime warranty.brbrI can adjust the belt to the perfect amount of compression; Im not limited to a specific set of holes found on prong buckle belts. Its super easy to adjust the belt too. Ive seen guys at the gym wearing different style belts doing some pretty strange things trying to get their belt to fit just right. It looks awkward, to say the least.brbrThe belt feels very secure when the self-locking mechanism is engaged; there is no slip or movement in the belt. It does not loosen up during lifts. This is extremely important to me; I want to know that the compression I feel during the first rep is the same compression Ill feel on the last rep.brbrThe belt is a great width, it does not interfere with my hips or ribs during any exercise. It allows for comfortable full range of motion from the start. Im very surprised at how comfortable this belt is.brbrThe belt is lightweight and doesnt take up much room in a gym bag.brbrBeing uniform in width all the way around allows the user to move the buckle to their side or their back or wherever is most comfortable for them. Regardless of where the buckle is, the belt is providing the same amount of compression all the way around. Note: I, personally, do not find the buckle to be uncomfortable anywhere along my waist; it never gets in my way.brbrI like how easy it is to unlock the belt after I complete a set without the need to completely remove it. I can quickly adjust the belt to fit loose around my waist while waiting to begin my next set.brbrAlthough Im not concerned with my appearance and Im the furthest thing from a fashionable gym goer, this belt does look great. Just because appearance isnt important to me, doesnt mean its not something others look for. If you want your equipment to be equally fashionable as it is functional, this belt should check both boxes for you.brbrWhen all is said and done, I am very happy that I made the decision to purchase the Element 26 Self-Locking Weight Lifting Belt. Im so happy with the belt and the Element 26 brand that I recently placed an order for the Element 26 Padded Figure
Over time I've grown out of love with my thick, leather weightlifting belt. The compression was bruising my ribs and I feel it was actually slowing down my progress. I was really looking for something that wasn't noticeable and awkward when I squat or deadlift but still able to provide bracing feedback and minor stability during heavy lifts. The Velcro is SUPER secure and you'll never have to worry about it coming undone during your lifts. It's pretty amazing how tight you can crank this belt and still not have to worry about the Velcro coming undone.brbrI plan to use this belt for 98% of my training, essentially, and use the leather belt only for max attempts. If you're working at really high weights on you're not used to on squats, for instance, you will notice the lack of upright support that the leather belt provides, but it's not a huge deal for me. You'll get stronger abs as a result! It's really a remarkable product, in all of it's simplicity.
While not as good as a serious 10-13mm leather belt, this one is pretty good and helps to apply adquate internal abdominal pressure. It does not pinch your hips or the bottom of the rib cage like stiff leather belts, it has some give on the edges. However, it does have some minimal circumfurancal (sp) stretch, but not much. The metal locking buckle definitely holds secure once you **** in your Gut and pull it tight. However, there is some stretch (creeking sound) when you push your abs out against the belt. Not a big deal, as I Think the stretching diminishes as you use the belt more. Overall, good solid support for SQ, DL, PR and BP.brMy only gripe is the excessive amount of hook/loop that is on the belt. Overall, good solid support for SQ, DL, PR and BP.brMy only gripe is the excessive amount of hook/loop that is on the belt. Every time I finish a set I have to rip off about 12 inches of 3-inch Wide hook/loop which makes quite a monstrous ripping sound ever 2 or so minutes during a workout. No big deal, but I'm not the type to draw attention to myself. I Think the belt would be better served with about 4 inches of "hook' at the end of the belt to assure the tail of the strap stays on your torso. No worry about the tension provided on the belt, as the metal Buckle really hold well. The hook/loop does not supplment the buckle's locking action, so no need for so much hook/loop.br Overall, I'm satisfit and like the product. While not as stiff as thick leather, this belt has it's obvious benefits of being smaller in the gym bag and more comfortable to wear. I'd say about 85% the effectiveness of IAP compared with a stiff $100 leather belt. (sorry about the weird French wording, my dump apple computer won't type normal American English)
I do competitive Strongman, so I use a belt for traditional Olympic lifts as well as yoke walks, Conan’s wheel etc. I’ve been using an expensive hard belt from a well-known company for a long time but was never satisfied with it, and always felt incredibly restricted but dealt with it because I thought that was how it was supposed to be. My coach recommended I try a softer belt. I did a ton of research and was ready to spend $100+ until I saw the reviews on this one. I love supporting smaller companies, so I reached out to them directly to ask if they thought this would be a decent belt for someone doing heavier lifts and different workouts than CrossFit. They were super rad to connect with and told me if I shredded it doing Strongman they’d replace it. I purchased through amazon, got it in literally under 24 hours, and immediately was blown away by the quality. This belt is everything you want in a lifting belt. It somehow manages to be soft and pliable in order to form perfectly to your body, but is stiff enough to support you through your heaviest lifts. It’s not too wide or too thin, and the self-locking mechanism is brilliant. Even the color pigmentation (I got it in red) is high-quality. I’m totally obsessed and a little blown away by how much I love this belt, and would recommend it to everyone doing any type of lifting that would benefit from a belt. Killer product, amazing brand. 10/10 ❤️
This belt is awesome. I have only used it one day so far, but the locking mechanism is perfect! I thought it would be too much, but I found it easier to get tight than the simple Velcro/single roller type and far superior to leather belts. Also, it loosens quickly by pulling on the bar and pulling the Velcro out to the side. There is a lip on the end of the belt that keeps it from falling all the way out, so I think you can loosen it all the way as needed w/o it falling off, but I just loosened enough to not be restrictive when resting. Also, just put the latch on your side all the time. No need to worry about hitting it on the oly lifts, nor it digging into your belly if you happen do be doing a WOD where you also bend. (TTB, Burpees, etc..) It seems the belt will get a slight permanent set to match the curves going around your body, so I would suggest picking a place where the buckle goes (side) and keeping it there, instead of back and forth depending on the movement of the day.I was worried about the sizing as the belly gets smaller when pulled in tight, but it worked out fine with their sizing numbers. I am 34' pants, 6'-2' #210 (~+15 lbs over ideal) and 'large' works well.BTW seller - you need to fix the sizing numbers... The numbers in the pictures change when you pick different colors, and does not match those in the drop downs from amazon.I don't normally write detailed reviews, but these guys deserved it. Nice product.
I have been weightlifting for a long time and been through many different types of weightlifting belts from thick leather to contoured velcro belts, and so far this is my favorite one. I have only used it a few times, but, it’s extremely comfortable, there’s no flex, the self-locking buckle fastens securely and very easy to adjust quickly. Support: 8/10: There’s no flex and it gives you excellent pressure to brace against and stability. This is great as a weightlifting belt, but will give you less feedback than a thick leather belt. Comfort: 10/10: This belt is extremely comfortable, especially when compared with my older leather belts or contoured velcro belts which just feel awkward. Construction: 10/10: Seems to be very well made, the Nylon is very heavy duty and the stitching is almost excessive. I don’t foresee have any issues with durability. Ease of Use: 9/10: This belt folds up very easy and fits in my bag, it’s quick and easy to get on and off once you get used to the self-locking buckle. Just pull from the metal bar with your left hand to quickly loosen it. Overall: 9/10: I would highly recommend this belt to weightlifters and crossfitters as it provides great support, comfortable, and easy to throw in your gym bag. If you’re someone who competes in powerlifting, this may not be the belt for you as I don’t believe it will be allowed in certain competitions.
