Flies seem worse this summer so went looking for help. Plenty of mozzie zappers advertised but it took a friend to point me to this gadget. Placed it in the patio where it gets the morning sun. Must admit I was skeptical for a start but that changed in hours. Very effective and better viewing than 'Home and Away'. Emptied after four days and started over with a refill. I don't expect to rid QLD of flies but at least I feel happier at seeing them reduce ....

Takes a day or 2 to "activate" in my opinion (or just a warmer day perhaps) but this thing really does work. I keep it close to the dog poop bin too, for extra effectiveness. Not that it needs it! It does stink BUT you only catch a wiff if you're close to it and I'll take that downside all day long.

I don't want to include pics because they are disgusting but it does work. Also, remember to buy extra refill. It came with a small powder pack and all you need to do is add water and shake a bit. I set it up for the first three weeks, caught lots of bugs. But some bugs still managed to get away so I think I will have to set it up for another 2 weeks. I haven't got much trouble with the smell, but discarding it is quite a nasty job (that's why my husband does it).

Don't bother. Few days. Not a single fly caught. Nothing. Followed instructions properly. Thought it might be a dud. Bought another one. Same thing. Waste of money.
I put the fly trap under the fruit tree about 6 metres from the house 3 weeks ago. I checked after a week and there were a moderate amount of flys. I bought some bait sachets today and went down to do the recommended 2-3 week change of bait sachet and there was a swarm of blow flys hovering around the packed bottle. I had to hose them to get them away. The smell was completely disgusting and vile and I was dry retching. I went into the house to find two masks and gloves. I dug a hole to bury it in so it didn’t stink the garbage out and held my breathe whilst pouring the fly slurry into the hole. This trap works so well but you need to change the bait sachets weekly in this heat with a mask. I found the stench of the rotting flys so off the charts I’ve decided I’m not ... MoreI put the fly trap under the fruit tree about 6 metres from the house 3 weeks ago. Bought this two weeks ago. Did it catch some flies? Yes, some. You can see how many in two weeks from the picture. Did it stop flies coming in my back door? Not in any way. Did I follow the instructions properly? Yes, placed in a sunny place two meters from back door (as can be seen in pictures). Did it make my whole garden smell like a dead dog? Yes, 100% yes. Couldn’t stand walking out my back door any more. Summary: if you want to catch a few flies and have your garden smelling like the bowels of hell, then this is for you. Do I regret buying the extra sachets? Yes. Now I have to find some way of getting no rid of it without making me vomit.
I’m had 2 of these outside for about 5 days.. they caught flies which I was initially happy with but then the smell came and it’s like a nappy explosion mixed with cat pee and off curry. Emptying them and cleaning them out was the smelliest thing ever. Even though it works be prepared for the smell from hell. I will not use them again, it’s just not worth it!
This company has altered their fly attractant ingredients. Was once an extremely effective solution for reducing nuisance fly populations for Aussie home owners. Now it has me wondering if I can still use the containers but obtain alternative fly attractant sachets. Now the solution turns a reddish colouring after some time and is completely unattractive to flies and ceases to do what it is supposed to do. Worked for a longer period between sachet and water changes. We have the old sachets in a 36 bucket quantity and compared those with the sachets inside the brand new fly catcher containers we just bought.
I have been using this product for some time in my chicken pen, these traps used to work great and fill with flys within two weeks, however for sometime now they are failing to attract flys. As an example I can leave the trap for a week and only catch 1/2 dozen flys where normally it would be full. Also the solution now turns a dark colour. After buying numerous refill sachets, I will no longer be purchasing this brand moving forward. I did contact the manufacturer using details on the box and have had no reply so far. I feel based on my experience the advertising on this product is now misleading.
Very effective fly killer. It is pretty gruesome and if you do not empty and clean it at least every three days, the smell is staggering. Buy more than one so you can empty one (bury it in your yard) and then chuck it in a pre-prepared cleaning bucket. And then hang up the other one. Far more effective than fly spray. And much better for the environment. But the flies take a good while to die so it is not exactly pretty. Nonetheless, it has dramatically reduced the flies at our place. You will need to also buy a box of refills of the powder stuff (not poisonous at all) that the flies find irresistible. Excellent if you have a reasonably strong stomach and REALLY want to get rid of the flies.
