I've wanted a semi-hollow for some time and I took the plunge to get this one. It's a very nice guitar that looks good and plays well. I was initially suspicious because of the price, as other guitars in the range did not play so well to me.Anyway, I had the store do a setup to ensure everything was fine and had the strings on I like to use. I change my own strings, of course, but I don't have tools for doing a proper setup. Good thing I did. Their Technician/Luthier CONNER, was very, very conscientious about his work, even fixing a slightly raised 14th fret. He was very meticulous in his inspection and work.If you don't have a semi-hollow body ax, this would be a good choice for the money. I have not had it long enough to say much about the two split-coil switches for the humbuckers. Maybe they'll turn out to add some good sounds as I play more.My only significant gripe is that the back of the neck has a standard gloss finish. If you play guitar, you probably hate that, as well. But some light sanding and oil should improve the playability.

Epi's take on the 335 is insanely good. Out of the box it was a little rough feeling and wasn't the most impressive, but after a good setup and breaking it in for a day or two of playing, it really shines. Now I can hardly put it down (seriously!). Hydrate the fretboard, set the relief and action right and wind up your strings of choice and you got an absolutely quality guitar. It's got the classic woody tone this guitar is famous for, and the coil split tones are nothing to turn your nose up at either. And the treble bleed mod on the volume knobs means you keep a clear tone even when turning down.Got mine in Inverness Green and I love it, though you can't go wrong with any of the color options. Only downside, and this is very subjective, is it feels a little cheap. You inspect it enough and compare it to a Gibson 335 and the price starts to make sense. It's made with cheaper material after all. But I cannot stress this enough: ITS A GREAT GUITAR! Perfect for intermediate level guitarists where choosing this price tag over a Gibson just makes sense for their financial situation. But make no mistake, I think guitarists of any level can have fun with this one. This is what a good guitar looks like!

I've had my raspberry burst ES-335 for almost 4 months now, and while I'm overall satisfied with my purchase, it wasn't all perfect off the shelf. First the positives: the guitar's body panels have very generous flame patterns for a mass-produced import model. Perhaps they were more selective for these LE runs. The online pictures are pretty true to the actual color of the guitar, and there aren't any paint issues on mine. The stock pickups are fantastic and if it weren't for the fact that a friend has offered to give me a set of Gibson pickups, I wouldn't even bother changing them out. They will offer plenty of chime, warmth, cream, or grit for you to dial into, so unless you want a little more dirt, you might be able to save yourself the hassle of swapping ... They will offer plenty of chime, warmth, cream, or grit for you to dial into, so unless you want a little more dirt, you might be able to save yourself the hassle of swapping pickups. Volume & tone knobs are responsive, the guitar holds tune after a few songs, and for a 6', average-build guy like me, this guitar feels extremely natural in my lap or hanging from a strap. The neck feels very similar to Epiphone's 58 Les Paul Standard or the IBG acoustic line, so it's slightly large, but by no means a baseball bat. I prefer my necks this way, though, so that's a positive in my book. Now for the not-so-great things. One cosmetic issue I noticed was that the binding is kind of splotchy near the neck heel. You'd have to be holding the guitar to notice it, but it's not too big to be an eyesore for me. Another issue is that one of the volume pot labels fell off suddenly. Not sure what caused it to fall off, but I've considered replacing all the knobs because I'm not exactly in love with their look, anyway. More egregiously, the fret work was somewhat lacking on this model within the upper register. The frets feel noticeably taller, and the edges don't appear to have been filed all the way. It doesn't render the guitar unplayable, but it's definitely something I plan to have corrected by a tech or luthier.Overall, this can be a wonderful guitar. Despite the flaws I pointed out, I'm happy with my purchase and don't mind taking the guitar to a highly skilled person to get it in perfect working order. The guitar sounds amazing, feels well-balanced and comfortable in playing position, and just looks so dang good! It's a well-designed package, just make sure to give yours a combover before you decide to settle.

A great es-335 from Epiphone, especially with the alnicoV humbuckers, coil splitting, and quality control all around. I did very little set-up to get nice low action; I must also put on some new strings, loop-tie them, with some stop bar adjustment. I like this glossy ebony finish, but used steel wool on the back of the neck to take down the stickiness. Clear mellow sound with a bit of woodiness on the neck pickup; good for rhythm, CCR, country, jazz, and classic rock. The bridge pickup gives me more attack; good for clear chicken picking, and with pedals heavy distortion chunks and leads. With the coil split, I can almost get a Tele sound on the bridge pickup. The neck shape is sort-of D shaped; I prefer the rounded C-shape of the 1950s Gibsons. Great guitar at a ... The only reason for the 3 star rating is the work it needed. A brand new instrument may need a setup, but it shouldn't need repairs. More details below, but lets start with what was really good. This "Inspired by Gibson" model has some awesome improvements over prior models. The Kalamazoo styled headstock is really nice. It still has the same challenges as the Gibson models, but it has a much more refined look than its predecessors. Same thing with the pick guard. These two improvements provide a far more polished look to the final product. These features may seem small to some, but I appreciate them. The higher grade pots also result in a more professional feel and tone for the player. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I prefer the pickups in this model over ... The higher grade pots also result in a more professional feel and tone for the player. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I prefer the pickups in this model over the T-Types found in the the Gibson model. They don't have the same note separation or clarity as the T-Type, but they do have a warmer jazzy tone that I prefer, so I'm going to keep the pickups. On the "still not perfect side" of the conversation, many of these will require some additional work to get it in playable condition. Some reviewers have reported that they were perfect right out of the box, so it may be a hit and miss situation, but mine was a bit of a miss. I knew the issues were fixable, so I purchased it anyway. The factory setup was quite poor. There was far too much neck relief and the bridge was way too high. This wasn't a matter of simply not being set up the way I like my guitars. When I picked it up off the display, this one was unplayable. After fixing the relief and action, I found 2 dead frets. Not a buzz because the action was too low, but two completely dead frets (without bending). A fret level and crown was needed. My biggest critique is the fret ends were so sharp that I literally cut my finger on one. That had to be fixed. I had a professional do the fret repars and a full setup. Now, it plays flawlessly. One day I may end up replacing the bridge and tailpiece. They are fairly low quality, but on par with comparable instruments in this class. If you can do these types of repairs yourself or don't mind spending a little extra to have them done by a professional, this is a good value for most players and I would recommend it to my friends.
I've always wanted a 335 to play occasional parts on, but I couldn't justify the cost of a Gibson, considering all the other things I need to equip my studio. With that in mind, I ordered an Epiphone 335 Traditional Pro (at an amazing 'Stupid Deal' price), figuring that this was my best affordable option, and then I set my expectations accordingly. Much to my surprise, the guitar was spectacular right out of the box-I literally couldn't believe it. Starting at the headstock, the tuners are silky and smooth-turning. The nut is perfectly cut; the guitar arrived with super-low, mostly buzz-free action; I raised it just a little and got instant increased clarity. Intonation is spot on, and the guitar plays in tune all the way up the neck. The laurel fretboard is very ... Intonation is spot on, and the guitar plays in tune all the way up the neck. The laurel fretboard is very smooth and dense, and it has a nice glow-it's just like rosewood (I think I might like it better than today's rosewood, actually). The frets appear to be well-leveled; I haven't detected any buzzing notes anywhere on the neck. The sound is evenly balanced all the way up the fretboard, and the response is harmonically active and lively in every position. The neck is pretty thick and feels great. Pickups are fine; the push/pull coil taps make a big difference. The guitar feels hefty, solid-you can sense it right away when you pick it up, it's like, aw yea. This is serious gear for players who need full-on 335 functionality on a budget-it has that real-deal feeling. I'm sensing that Epiphone is really serious about quality control-I hope the specimen you get is as good as the one I ended up with!
The guitar was beautiful in that Iverness green, and was partially set up before I bought it. Once I got it home and started noodling around on it, I noticed that the frets are in serious need of polishing and fretboard itself needs to be treated. Also, the front ends, especially up on the higher frets, are not well finished. So I will be having a fret dressing job done on it. As far as the sound goes, it sounded great and it played really well. The electronics worked out really well and I was actually really surprised at the tonal capabilities of this guitar. The finish is excellent. There are no streaks or runs and no paint on the binding. So it looks like I got one that they did a little bit better of a job paying attention to the details. The guitar is almost perfect. There is a noticeable finishing blemish where the nut meets the neck on the bass side and another blem in the finish on the back of the neck. Other than that the guitar is great. Plays well, fretwork is good, and the pickups sound great. I bought this one over the other 335 models because of the flamed Raspberry burst and block inlays. It is easily the best looking one in person IMO.This is my 7th newer Epiphone (2020+) and they ALL have come with dirty fretboards, scratchy frets, and cheap factory strings. After 5 minutes of playing your fingers will be black like you handled coal. Just expect this. Change the strings, clean/oil the fretboard, and give the frets a quick polish. This guitar has that something a guitar should have. I got mine on a Stupid Deal sale and I was not about to pass that up. So I bought one. I was very pleased with this purchase and all that stuff. The guitar has all the right stuff in a very affordable package and it sounds very nice. Epiphone did a great job with the Gibson inspired series. The gold color is cool too. This is a fun guitar to play and this one will get some gig time. This guitar sounds great acoustically for those early morning times or in the middle of the night when you get a killer song idea and you don't want to wake anyone, so there is another reason to play this guitar. Yes, I like this guitar that much, Epiphone is building some great guitars these days.I will be running GHS Boomers, 10-46 as I run on all my electrics. The Graph Tech nut was a great choice that Epiphone made for this guitar. I may drop the action at the nut very slightly and it don't need much adjusting. I did lower the action at the bridge. The fret work is great. The tuners work great for now and if I upgrade tuners, I will go with Graph Tech Ratio tuners but for now this guitar is great as it is. Choosing a strap of all the straps I own may be a tough choice. Not much I would change on this guitar except for the strings and lists of songs to play. The strap buttons are bigger so you probably wont need those Grolsch beer bottle, rubber strap locks. I ordered a hard shell case for this guitar. This guitar won't spend much time in that case. I have been having lots of fun with this one.Good thing Musicians Friend had this guitar on the Stupid Deal and that turned out to be an amazing deal. Thank you Musicians Friend for this killer deal. I was looking for a 335 style guitar and scored big time with this one. Maybe it found me but overall 5 stars all around.
This was for my son, a late beginner, to add to his Ibanez s521. This was ordered online, not bought off the wall. It comes very well packaged for shipment and arrived with zero scratches or damage. The strings that it has are actually OK and I may keep them for a bit. I am not a huge fan of the gold metallic but it is the kid's preference, and the finish seems nice. I did not see much of the paint covering part of the binding in places as some have remarked, and the binding seems to be pretty decently done. The only really startling indicator of low build quality on ours is the very rough finish on the insides of the f holes. There are places that the paint has small runs in it and you can tell there was cost savings. There are guitars in the price category that ... The only really startling indicator of low build quality on ours is the very rough finish on the insides of the f holes. There are places that the paint has small runs in it and you can tell there was cost savings. There are guitars in the price category that are much better finished in there and I would have gladly paid a couple of extra bucks for this. At least they could have painted it black on the sides of the holes, like they did on some of the other colors, to hide it somewhat. On the gold, it is just jarring. I may do just that, after it is out of warranty of course. It is sad because there aren't any other significant issues on mine. The fret ends seem pretty nice and there really isn't any lifting, sprout, or sharpness on any of them. I am intermediate, so I can't really say authoritatively how the tone compares to others objectively, but to my ears it sounds pretty good especially compared to some others in the price range, like the stock Ibanez pickups. Seem to have clarity and not muddy. Like the neck profile. Neck required a slight loosening of the truss rod to straighten and the action was easily lowered to 1.5mm at the 12th fret low e without significant buzzing. The treble bleed does its job and single coil option is nice too. It won't sound like my strat but it does give some versatility. The guitar is very fun to play with its neck profile and radius once I did my mild setup on it, and hard to explain, but I don't want to put it down once I start using it. Despite the one flaw, I still think it is a good buy and recommended.
