I was looking for a sturdy mount for my 40” ultra wide monitor. I purchased this one based off of some of the positive reviews I read and I am glad I did. The arm is very well built and works perfectly. You can tell that it will be able to handle a lot of weight. May purchase another for my wife’s 49” ultra wide as well. Very happy with the purchase. At $300+, I was skeptical. After it arrived though, I can see you get what pay for (in a good way!) Incredibly sturdy and versatile for any workspace setup. I'm sure my desk or my monitors will break before these arms ever do. I was able to take my small desk space and make it easy to organize my monitors for work vs personal computing. A quality product through and through. I've since ordered 2 more. One for another monitor, and one for a large drawing tablet.

I love these HX mounts so much I actually have four of them. I have four 32" displays that I divide up between work and play. The HXs keep the displays off the desktop, giving me a lot of valuable desk surface space back for other things. And they're vastly more flexible, movable, and adjustable than most OEM monitor stands are. And they're sturdy as heck, able to keep a heavy 32" display right where I want it at all times. The first three I purchased were the moment the HXs became available on the market which was a few years ago. They only came in one color at the time: white. The one I just purchased is silver/stainless steel colored, and it's... a bit gaudy. That's my fault for choosing it, and if I were to do it again, I'd just get another white one.

This is clamped on very securely to my desk and I can use it in a room where the screen is not just for my computer but acts is a streaming mechanism for people sitting on my couch or at the table in the other direction. It looks good and for something so substantial is actually pretty unobtrusive. And it just feels strong. My 43 inch monitor does not challenge it in the least. I truly believe it was worth every penny.
I'm using this arm with $3000 color critical NEC PA311D. It is very heavy professional screen and I needed an arm that can hold it. This is the perfect arm for it. Saves a ton of desk space, also it comes with all possible accessories so you can install on any kind of desk and with any VESA compatible monitor. Yes, it was not cheap, and there is plenty $50 choices on Home Essentials Direct. Problem with cheaper arms they are not as sturdy, can't hold 40 lbs of weight, and honestly, the quality of finish is not there. Especially if you are Mac user, you want something that is of high quality with nice finish, not an eyesore. Buy this without hesitation.
This is everything you would expect from a higher end product. I have an old, super heavy, Apple thunderbolt display and the hx desk monitor arm handles it perfectly. It was simple to put together, and I was able to complete the entire assembly on my own, including the attachment of the monitor. The attachment to the desk is really solid without doing any damage to the wood.
Reached out to confirm that to put this arm beyond 180 degrees, i.e. have your monitor further away and be at the back of your desk, you need to loosen the set screw keeping the bottom arm from sliding up and out. Keep in mind, your monitor is still in there rock solid. It is just strange to me. Ergotron states that you are doing this at your own risk. I get that, but still. I give four stars because for a $300+ arm, I feel like the manufacturer should have a better solution for a pretty common use case. That being said, I would certainly buy this arm again. I have no regrets, just can't give a perfect 5 star.
So they make a version of this same arm with a stronger VESA Mount piece. Forget what it’s called, but if you have a 49” screen definitely get the stronger one. If you made the mistake of getting the not-beefier one. Like this one, as I did, then your monitor will droop down, like a bowed head under its own weight. This is fixable though with a bunch of rubber bands. 4-8 rubber bands are all the extra tension it needs to not droop.

I don't have to tilt my neck upward to see the top portion of the screen. The packaging is well thought out with everything clearly labeled and included for assembly. You will need a phillips or flat head screw driver for the Vesa mount. The only issue I had was mounting the monitor onto the arm which is nearly impossible to do by yourself because you're doing it blind. Instead, I mounted the top arm to the Vesa mount, then took the monitor + top arm and plugged it into the lower arm. This is a great monitor mount if you are looking for an elegant solution that offers full articulation and can support the weight of a larger monitor. I am currently using it with Dell’s 49” widescreen monitor WITHOUT the heavy duty mount and it works just as one would hope! There are nice lock-out measures so that your mount won’t swing into a wall (if there is one behind it) and the base has enough adjustment options to fit any thickness of desktop. I would definitely buy again.
