I was glad that I made the right decision to buy from Walmart Estwing E-5 Sure Split Wedge, which was sold for a reasonable price. Using the Estwing Sure Split Wedge to split wood is faster and easier and it doesn't get stuck easily. I also use the above wedge to remove my other 3 stuck wedges. I'd buy it again.

It was smaller than I assumed. ( I obviously didn't pay attention to the measurements given.). However, it did the trick when it came to splitting the wood.

I split a couple of rounds of locust today. I used this wedge to rescue my regular wedge when it got stuck. I tried to split a couple of pieces starting with this wedge, and it would just bounce out of the round. The wedge that I received did not have the same taper as the picture now. I think the edge has something to do with it bouncing out. I am happy with this wedge as a companion for my other wedge. I think I will paint it orange tomorrow so it is easier to find at quitting time. Happy splitting!!!

I bought this wedge and another diamond shaped one from Lowe's and both worked extremely well. You can't go wrong with any Estwing products, they are truly built to last! I started this wedge in some partially wet rounds with a 4# sledge hammer and finished it off with an 8# sledge if needed. I used it on some pretty tough oak.
I have been splitting logs using wedges and 16# sledge hammers since the 1980s. I have quite a collection of wedges, but this wedge does more and is quicker than the others. After I received the 1st one, I ordered another although it may be some time before it is needed. This wedge is long and very sharp at the tip, which may account for its splitting qualities. I have buried 4 wedges in a gnarled, fibrous log and rescued them with this one. From heavy use, the only signs of wear are the label stickers and the paint job. I can only wish that I had this wedge back when I started on my 1st log.
It’s effective at getting the job done. I mainly used it on unsplit logs, then finished quartering them with an ax. But it isn’t like cutting through butter either.
We lost our old spitting wedge. For many years we used axe heads. After splitting a lot of wood, I decided to get another splitting wedge. First I bought a large splitting wedge and a smaller splitting wedge, they had the old proven design and were at a much lower price, then I took a second look at this expensive wedge. I was skeptical of the new design. I already have two good splitting wedges, that I haven't even used yet. I came back another day and bought it. I just had two try this new design. I welcome any improvement, that will make my job easier. I went home and put this new wedge to work splitting oak. It is the best splitting wedge, that I have used and it will be my main splitting wedge, for as long as I can remember where it is.
Heavy, high quality steel, using with 3lb sledge. 16" Cherry; not a problem. I had to put a sufficient edge on it however. Other than that... Split away until your hearts content. Works great!
The wedges would not split the wood I was splitting. The little wings on the sides are the problem . When using the wedge, the wedge stops at the beginning of the wings and won't go any more, wedges which prevents the wood from splitting. I bought 2 different wedges that didn't have the wings and they did split the wood.
This wedge works! It is fairly heavy for persons like me with weak hands, but once it digs in then it can be hammered fairly easy, providing the hammer isn't too heavy either. I did have difficulty in harder woods that were not already naturally splitting, but once I could locate a weak spot/crack, then it wasn't too difficult to split the log.
