I was looking for a set of Genera for a Pearl Reference kit and couldn't find all 3 sizes in one place. Purchased UV1 for the first time on toms. Worked very well on the Reference shells, which are pretty dry on their own. Gig was smooth jazz and they mic'd up great as well. I'd like to try them on Maple shells and or a rock kit soon.

I had never even heard of the UV1 heads, but I've tried everything else, so I figured why not. It's a one ply head, just like a g1, but seems to have an extra something. Also, I like the look, it's got a cool logo and the coating ends right at the edge of the drumhead. I used this for a 7x13 Pork Pie Patina snare, and with this head it's a funk machine. Clean, clear crack and pop, great snare response, easy to tune. I have it tuned pretty high for a classic funk sound and man does it sound good! These are supposed to be super-durable, so if you like the g1 but want a longer lasting coating this may be the ticket.

I have a Gretsch Renown Maple kit with die cast hoops which can have a tendency to impede resonance a bit. I had clear Evans EC2's previously and wanted my toms to "sing" more. The EC2's were more punchy. I also wanted coated heads for my kids who are practicing for school jazz band which includes some brush work. Changing to these got the job done. I also replaced my snare head and am still working with it on sound, but the great thing I think will be the durability. I think these are a great compensation for any loss of resonance from die cast hoops and a durable option to reduce the need to replace heads.

They sound great to my ears! The drums opened up and have a great tone and sustain. Tuned up very easily and also have a range of tuning that many heads can't achieve. I have them at a medium tension for a rock/funk/country sound. A half or three quarter turn on each lug gives the perfect jazz tuning. These are single ply heads, so my only concern is durability. I have only had them on for a few weeks and so far no pitting or dents. Time will tell. I'm very happy with the sound as they are probably the most musical sounding heads I have ever played. I primarily use this on my 5x14 cherry snare paired with a clear 300 and let me tell you, after using a wide variety of heads from the G2 coated and EC Coated to Emperor X and Ambassador Coated to try to find the perfect head that can handle a wide tuning range and not blow out after a month of playing, this is THE ONE. The durability it has is unbelievable, rimshots are deafening and no matter whether you tune it low or crank it down to the max, it's sound and dynamic range is quite pleasing to the ears...I have bought this head for the rest of my setup (less the bass drum) and it is a killer head around the kit. The price may seem a little much but this head will pay for itself in a matter of minutes of you using it. You get maximum volume, punch, overtones, etc. I have changed all batter heads to the UV1. I love it for the versatility, You have several easy things you can do for overtones and all other adjectives. You have a variety of things you can quickly do to alter for the room, mood your in. With a pillow, moon gel, wash cloth...you name it. If you like the booming Bonham sound, heavy muffling is not what you want. If you like the Bonham sound, use muffling sparingly. And if you use it, make sure it is easily changed or removed. We make alot about adjusting to the room and environment but the reality is your mood is probably the biggest variable. Give your self room to adjust. The UV1 gives you the best versatility using all of the tools in your tool box.
56 year veteran drummer, retired but still playing at home. The big pro is the coating that shows no marking after several hours of play and will last who knows how long. Note that the part of the head that contacts the bearing edge under tension is clear. The most immediate cons are (1) the exorbitant price and (2) how thick they feel and sound, more like at least a G2 coated with G1 clear resonant heads on my DWs. I realize I'm probably out of touch with what's the "in" thing nowadays. I never had close-field miking even in large venues and never spent hours upon hours recording on my computer, etc. With my experience, I would only possibly recommend these for recording. Yes I've been on quite a few.
Excellent sounding heads and after hours of beating with the sticks show no marks whether using wood tips or nylon. These heads are very easy to tune and carry a rich tone regardless of tuning high, low, or medium. Pair it with an EC Reso head and you have a killer combo. The sound is controlled and the yet responsive to the sticks. Can be played lightly or hammered into and still produces excellent tones. They carry the 360 tech although 360 isn't stamped on the head it has the UV logo. This is the good stuff. If you like the sound of coated single ply heads this is the ticket.
Using this UV-1 head on my Black Magic 15" snare. I'm trying single ply coated on my metal drums, kinda of getting away from the Genera dry heads, haven't used a reverse dot in ages... Great feel for brushes. I'm trying it now with Masshoff tuning, and can get it very dry. Can not yet speak to durability, but it hasn't transferred to my cymbals that I can see, nylon and wood tips. Have been using Aquarian and Evans single ply coated heads for my snare drums for years. I have a 14" head waiting to go on the Black Beauty Clone that I built, but waiting for the cast hoops before I put it on. I have one on my Taye Studio Birch snare, which I haven't really cared much for, but this head seems to have perked it up. Maybe this head is worth the slight bump in price...
