I bought this head for my church setup. The drums are miked up in a separate drum room. We play a variety of gospel and CCM styles of music. The acoustic sound is great, nice deep punch while using the thicker dampening ring. It sounds even better coming through the PA speakers. It has a more "felt" not heard sound. Definitely a phenomenal kick drum head!!!

I purchased a "less expensive" set for home practice. I use electronics for church as they are more practical in that setting. But since the mid '60's I have played acoustic drums and that's where my drummer's heart lies. I wanted to upgrade the heads before I even played the new set, so with the advice of the Musician's Friend staff I ordered a set of Evans heads and the EMad 2 was the suggested bass batter head. Wow, this head just rocks (quite a statement for a pastor/church drummer) but this head treats me very well. I highly recommend this for anyone seeking a really great sounding and quality head. Thanks Musician's Friend and thanks you drummers for your viewing. God Bless and happy drumming. I'm looking forward to what kind of set I get in Heaven!!

All I can say is wow.... I recently jumped off the Remo bandwagon, for several reasons. I just was growing tired of the sound I was getting and needed a change. The kicks didn't have the sound I was looking for in my head and neither did the snares. Toms were lackluster and so on. I've never heard a bad word against Evans, so when I decided to re head my expansive kit this time around I chose Evans. And man let me tell ya, I'm never going back.These heads bring out tones I didn't know my kicks had! I'm running 2 22x18 Pearl Vision 6 ply Birch kick drums and honestly they sound better to me now than some of the reference kick drums which are arguably the best kick shells ever made. Luckily I was able to get a hold of Evans, which by the way have some of the best customer support I've ever encountered, and we got it taken care of. All you have to do is very gently with a hobby knife cut a square out of the ring, slightly bigger than the triggers piezo element so it works correctly and then gaffer tape over the trigger to add stability to the foam ring which also has to be cut. He also a included a picture he got from a tech out on the road doing the same thing, I will include this if I can. All in all you can't go wrong with this head, so quite reading all these reviews and get kickin!

After reading another review here that said this is perfect for vintage sets, I got one for my Rogers Holiday. And...he ain't wrong. I have a Powerstroke 3 on my Gretsch, and I had an Aquarian Superkick on my Rogers. Love both of them, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. But I decided to try this, and I like it a lot.

So, with no money, not even for gas to get to guitar center where I purchased head, what to do? Got a new kit a while ago. This was the last stock batter head to replace. I replaced the tom heads with EC2s, the snare with a heavyweight and they've sounded/held up great. So, I replaced the kick with this EMAD. Awesome sound right away! I took the advice of many and avoided putting a pillow inside. Definitely worth it! The kick sounded decent with the stock head, so I contemplated even needing to change it. But I took the chance, and like every other drum I replaced the heads on, it made a huge sonic difference. One comment mentions it sounding mic'd and eq'd. This is probably the most accurate way to describe the resulting sound. It makes the job of recording (which you want to get the sound right at the source) very easy. Every Evans product I've used so far ... MoreGot a new kit a while ago. I don't have the time to review all of the Evans 'Level 360' batter heads individually, nor is there any reason to, and I'll certainly tell you why...I've got a 5-piece DW Performance Series kit, and recently purchased 10", 12", 14", and 16" coated batter heads for my snare and toms, along with a clear batter and black reso head w/port for my bass drum.Hands down, these are the best drum heads I've ever played. Centering and tuning is a snap, responsiveness is great, and they made my entire drum set sound infinitely better than using the stock DW Remo heads. Of course all of the toms and my snare sound wonderful, but the bass heads are something else... Mine now punches harder than Mike Tyson! The ability to remove and exchange muffling rings on the BD batter ... Been using these heads for a while.. I like them wide open.. even with none of the provided foam rings. I get just the right amount of dampening to suit me from the plastic ring on the head with a standard ported reso-head and no pillow. This config works great for my DW 18x22, Sonor Phonic 18x22 and 1977 14x22 Stainless Steel Ludwig kick drums. For a 24 I use a small Evans or DW type bass drum pillow. Im sure not every drum will like these heads but for the aforementioned. it seems like a winner.

I literally purchased about 30 different kick head combos and spent thousands over the last year to search for my favorite recording head combo and the emad 2 clear / eq3 resonant was the winning over and over again on my birch kit. there were other combos that sounded great but the emad 2 just had "that " sound I was looking for. i record a lot of indie rock/blues and like a full, roomy tone and this head can go from big fat and full to tight and short by putting the larger muffling ring in it. by far the most versatile, durable and easy to tune bass drum batter I've tried. more low end than the p3 and more natural sounding than the superkicks which always sounded to 808 thumpy to me. ...
