These heads are two ply and much more durable than the remo heads that came on the new kit. These once broken in (two days of practice) hold they're tune within .5 on the digital drum dial. Outstanding! They made a huge improvement on the sound and seem to be much more durable than the single y Remo heads they replaced. Also a huge plus for me is that they're made in America.

EVANS EC2 Double-Ply FROSTED DRUMHEADS SOUND FANTASTIC !! These are great heads. Crisp and fat drum tones. Tune up very easily. A bit livelier [slightly more overtones] than EVANS Hydraulic heads; A bit more control [less ring] than G2 heads. The tone control ring built into the underside EQs the drum very subtly and balances all the overtones. The translucent frosting is truly a high tech alternative to sprayed on coatings-- it can't chip or flake off ! Durability is excellent. These heads look, sound and feel great!!

Excellent value, Great sounding heads

Though I've only had these heads on my kit for a short time, the improvement in tone was immediate and very pleasing to my ears and I really enjoy the look and feel of these heads.I'm typically an Aquarian kinda guy but wanted to try something different for a change and I found this great three pack deal and went for it. Now I know it may sound a bit cliche, but I noticed Chris Adler had switched to Evans and was using these exact heads, so I figured if they were good enough to replace the amazing sound he has always had, then they had to be at the very least "good". Though this did influence my decision to purchase a little, I have owned Evans products in the past and they have always been considered my, "second favorite" brand. I am enjoying the tone these heads give my toms so much I very likely will purchase these again in the future. These heads are listed as being for a Rock or Gospel type sound but honestly I feel they would fit well with any style of music. Once I had them on the drum they were very easy to tune and I had them ready to play in no time at all with very little stretching, (and I'm a guy who sometimes struggles with getting the tone I'm looking for). The have a nice clear attack and just the right amount of sustain to let the shell ring out in a pleasant way without sounding "wonky" at all. I know everyone has their own idea of how a head should sound, (muffled, open, etc) but I only have one moongel on each head, (split in half and placed a few inches from each side of my mics right on the lines by the rim for better control at the board) and this gives me a great tone that fits what I play perfectly, (Rock/Metal).TLDR?Improvement in tone was immediate and very pleasing to my ears.Great look and feel.Easy to tune and get the sound you want with little to no muffling.Nice clear attack and just the right amount of sustain to let the shell ring out in a pleasant way.Heads would fit well with any style of music.

Great sound and response!
13 November 2022

I own 7 snare drums with different heads (6 out of 7 evans). I use a 12x7 black panther 90% of the time gigging. Ive gone through 3 evans coated heads of different models, all good, and have this reverse dot head on another 14 maple snare. I ordered this for my favorite 12 and used it last night. WOW. Even the non-drummers loved the tone, not as dry sound! Multi-ply, its thick. Miced up sounds great as well, about do not need it! Didnt have to adjust sound at all (much). Its active and tight! Love it on this snare as well as my other!

I haven't been playing drums for an awfully long time but I am a gear geek. I have tried numerous snare heads to get the one that really appeals to me and my ear. The one that I really enjoyed was the Remo Powerstroke 77. However that coating chipped away quickly leaving a clear center area. The responsiveness of the head was somewhat limited as well. Now I'm talking within a month and a half..it was shot. I then purchased this one upon a recommendation from an experienced musician who plays in a rock band. I am using a DW 8 inch deep chrome over steel snare. With the addition of one piece of moon gel, I was able to rid the snare of any over tones or ringing. Tony is crisp and clear. If I want a little bit more of an overtone I can take away the moon gel and presto bingo... The tone opens up. My opinion doesn't matter however. It depends on the music you play or the venue. There are many drummers that playing big events and need something that cuts through. This one will accomplish that task.My best friend who got me into drums, bought one for his DW collectors series snare and absolutely loves it. It's much more lively than many of the dry better heads. If you have the funds to experiment with snare heads.... This one would definitely deserve your attention. It's a great head for a snare.

I have been using Pinstripes for 25+ years and really just took them for granted as the standard. Only recently I started demanding a bit more from my old cheapo Rockstar DX kit from 1992, and the Pinstripes weren't delivering. I needed more brightness and clarity and definition, despite the fact that their big power toms.Looking for a brighter sound, I actually tried the G12 but found it was too "barky" and dented way too easily, so after watching a few product reviews, I settled on the EC2 hoping at least that it would cut down on resonance a bit more than the Pinstripes. Wasn't happy about retaining a darker sounding head, but to me if I could improve definition, then that would be good enough.Construction is key: Because of how these heads are made, there is a bit less overhang on outside of the bearing edge than that of the pins (i.e. the opposite of what happens with a tympani head, and that equates to a slightly tighter sound and another unexpected benefit: better tuning (more on that later). So the goals I had set were met: more definition, better attack, and surprisingly, the heads are a bit brighter as well. Durability is excellent. As for the tuning aspect... because of how these are made, they are a bit harder to tune and are less forgiving than the pinstripes, and in turn, not as wide a tuning range, which may be why some people have complained about them. Simply put, if one tension rod is off, these heads will sound awful, with terrible overtones and zero projection. BUT... once you get all of the rods right... these heads absolutely sing and explode with rich sound and perfectly replicate the drum's fundamental tone and resonance. Pinstripes don't come close.Yes, they're hard to tune if you're not finicky or don't have a lot of experience with tuning... or if you have a damaged bearing (make sure your bearing edges are perfect). But that just means you have to apply yourself and learn how to do it.You will be rewarded!

I have been playing reverse dot Evans on every show. This drum headset is great for sustainability, full reliable and sound versatility. I have a 13x7 DW customized, and I found that the sound on a 13 is super solid. The 13 with few extra inches is just amazing.. give it a try!

You will sound great when you tune these heads on your kit
4 October 2019

Where to begin, I am a drummer who has played the Evans brand drumhead since the age of 14. The EC2 series of drumhead whether clear or coated, deliver a clean tone with minimal overtone based on the EC technology on the edge of the head. I have the coated version. This version gives you a clear and articulate tone, this head isn't really coated it is more of a frosted coating. This version gives warmth with the clear and articulate tone. It allows the toms to sing without the worry of overtone. You can have a low tuning or anything. Tune these heads in a middle tight tension and you hear the clarity. I really like these heads. I will get them again. EC2's get the job done. Try them out you will be glad you did.
