Before playing this head, I praised the EC Reverse Dot Snare head as the best of its kind. After wanting to try something new, I went for this Evans ST Dry head and I've now crowned this achievement as the best! Ghost notes on this head project more clearly than the EC Reverse Dot, and the ghost notes are much more sensitive. Another thing about this head is that it's very diverse because you can tune it soft, medium, or crank it super tight; the EC can only sound good when tuned tightly. But tuning this baby tightly (how I prefer it) will get you a much louder and crispier sound than the EC Reverse Dot even with it being less durable. This head is a must-buy if you're looking to play live. The Evans ST Dry is louder, Deeper, Badder, and Better than ever!

I'm 48, playing since I was 14. Life never gave me too much opportunity to upgrade my gear, but I'm starting to now and doing my homework. I hit hard and heavy. Always hated hearing a twang or overtones when I hit snare. This took it all away. Got a great Black Friday price. This is crisp and clean and will be noticed. Nice reaction. Durable and haven't seen a hit mark on it yet. I won't try to sound technical like most people leaving reviews, so for the working class guy who plays out with his band 6-8 times a year I'm loving it so far. I have 1 gel on the skin but no muffling ring. Good stuff

Been using Evans HD Dry heads for awhile. Loved those heads but wanted to try something a little different. Went with the ST Dry for a little more muffled sound to dry up the overtones. Wow, love this head. This is now my go to snare head. Live or recording this head will do it all. Thanks Evans!

All I can say is wow.... I recently jumped off the Remo bandwagon, for several reasons. I just was growing tired of the sound I was getting and needed a change. The kicks didn't have the sound I was looking for in my head and neither did the snares. Toms were lackluster and so on. I've never heard a bad word against Evans, so when I decided to re head my expansive kit this time around I chose Evans. And man let me tell ya, I'm never going back.This head is just simply amazing, gone are my days of trying to catch airborn Moongels or internal dampening. The Dry in the name does exactly what it implies. A quick with just enough ring fat attack with every hit. If you know how to tune and own a decent snare there is no reason why this head won't work for you. My only ... MoreAll I can say is wow.... I've worked recording and live for many years. This head ISN'T only for hard hitters. It cuts the overtones but still gives great tone and tuning versatility. No need for moon gel or damper. I use them on a Tama brass, a Walord bubinga and a pearl studio masters. GREAT SNARE HEAD!
I've used Evans for decades and my former snare head of choice was the Genera Dry but owing to a playing situation I've been in for more than five years I noticed I was going through the regular Dry faster. I had experimented with the HD which is fine in its own right and at 5 mils for the second head is only a small fraction 7 mils for the ST, the ST voices similarly to the Genera Dry and YOU CAN'T KILL THIS HEAD, unless your technique is lacking, or perhaps you've had one too many adult beverages - lol!!You will LOVE this head! You can tune it however you prefer (mine are in the Stewart Copeland range) and your snare has NEVER sounded this articulate or musical!
I have always used Remo heads for my drums. For the snare I usually used a Powerstroke 77 or Powerstroke X. I am a heavy hitter and also like the thicker head to dampen some of the overtones. I do like the voice of the snare but just like to reduce the overtones. This head does everything the Remo heads do and better! I have started using Evans heads more and more because of the ease of tuning. All the Evans heads I have used tune so much easier than Remo. This ST Dry Coated Snare has holes along the rim that help get rid of unwanted overtones without completely killing any voice the snare has. It really is worth a try!

I use this head on both my wood and metal snare drums. No muffling, moongels etc. needed. Absolutely perfect amount of ring and sustain for close miking live. I've played big stages with some of the best pro sound techs in the country, and they all love my fat punchy snare sound. It takes like 10 seconds at sound check to dial it in. Very durable too. I had over 60 performance / playing hrs. on one and it still looked and sounded like new. Coating has not wore off yet and I moved that head to my practice kit and beat on it almost every day still. Tune this head properly and it will reward you. This is the only snare head I buy now.
I Had Recently Bought A New Snare Drum, A Pearl Limited Edition & I Didn't Care Too Much For The Remo Head That Came With It. I Purchased This Head, Concerned About The Holes Around The Edge of The Head. Switched It Out With This Evans ST Dry, Tuned It The Way I Like It, & Started Playing Around With It For A Bit. I Thought It Sounded Too Loud, And Clashy, Like It Overpowered The Rest of The Drum Set. I Loosened It, & Tried It Again, Still Too Loud. I Replaced It Back To The Original Head That Came With The Drum & It Sounded So Much Better. I Wouldn't Recommend This Drum Head, Unless You Like The Loud & Clashy Sound of A Snare Drum.
