There's lots of meat packed into the 5150-III Stealth's chassis, for sure! This may be "only" a 50W head, but it outweighs a couple of 100W heads I have. With selectable impedance (4/8/16), one can drive their choice of cabinets, or two, with its parallel outputs. NO problem pushing a full 4x12 cab to xmax (and Tinnitus). So is this the "5150 Sound?" I couldn't say, having never plugged into a legacy model. But taken at face value for what it is, this amp is definitely unique amongst others I own. Its "Green" channel being the least aggressive, is NOT a "Clean" channel, per se - but CAN run clean (and very dry). Sharing bi-level controls with Orange channel, gives one options. I suppose. But not really...Blue channel is what this amp's all about IMO, and I'm glad ... MoreThere's lots of meat packed into the 5150-III Stealth's chassis, for sure! Twist the Gain & Volume knobs each past 40% - that sound is worth the price of admission! It's a seriously BEEF piece of hardware!Without taking it apart, the 5150-III 6L6 Stealth looks and feels to have a solid build quality. It's input / output tubes are cleanly displayed behind front & rear grilles. Again, there is an impedance switch, and parallel speaker jacks out back; along with a bias test point / adjustment. Weirdly, the Presence dial, Power and Standby switches are also out back. I really wish the Standby switch, at least, wasn't - this being my only qualm.

Amp that has all what musician needs, except maybe a reverb for "vintage style guys". Three channels, first fenderish clean, second that goes from crunch to heavy rhytm distortion, and third with gain for export, hardly gain knob after 12 o'clock ever need to be turned. What is exceptional with this amp is harmonic content that springs from every note played. Chords due to these higher harmonics simply make you play more and more... Pretty organic sound, but pretty tight at the same time.... pure bliss. At the back of amp there is a resonance knob that gives hard "thump" to your sound, this is super penetrating and makes amp really big. So far i have no regrets, i purchased due to recomendation on forums, youtube, and various comments, something i never do. The main negative about this amp is that it is overpriced. I would feel a lot better about a 1500$ price tag amp and cabinet combined. The other negative is that channels 2 and 3 are somewhat noisy. Not so much that they can't be used. Could possibly be fixed by isolating power line and/or grounding power supply like a pro studio would. I'm using just standard power set up in my house. Power switches are on the back. I would like them better on the front. The high gain channels on the 100w version are not as noisy. At least that's been my experience. Now on to the the positive. Appearance is sweet. Easy to use. It's definitely loud. I will likely never have to turn the volume up past 3 or 4 on any channel. I had a Blackstar HT Stage 60 MK2 before this. It's definitely loud. I will likely never have to turn the volume up past 3 or 4 on any channel. I had a Blackstar HT Stage 60 MK2 before this. It was a decent amp, but this one is way better. The clean channel was cleaner on the Blackstar, but the high gain channels and high gain driver pedals sounded terrible. I've got the Boss Waza Metal Zone, Boss Waza Blues Driver and Walrus Audio Warhorn that I use for tones mostly. All sound excellent through this amp with little to no noise with the Boss noise reduction. Waza Metal Zone through this amp puts a smile on my face. It simply stated sounds incredible.I see people complain about the clean channel on these 5150's and they're right it's not the best thing about the EVH. But, as soon as you add some reverb, quick delay or chorus your good to go. Also, if your thinking of buying this amp or any other EVH or any expensive brand name tube amp your gonna want to already have or buy a quality guitar to go with it. A 500$ ESP LTD or 500$ Schecter is just not going to sound good through this amp. At minimum I would suggest upgrading to high gain pickups if you have to use a low end guitar. Much better to go with a quality guitar with upgraded high gain pickups. If your gonna be playing large shows or recording in a pro studio maybe go with the 100w version. Otherwise, for small shows or home recording the 50w EVH 5150 III is more than enough.

It has been many years since I have played an electric guitar for no other reason than a personal preference for an acoustic guitar. Recently having read an article and learning about some of the amazing capabilities with modeling amps that are affordable, small, easy to transport but capable of a tremendous range of sound I walked into the Richmond VA Sam Ash Store with the sole intention of buying a modeling amp for my youngest son's birthday after he played with the amp I bought several months before. I had a few questions and the staff member that assisted me was very well versed in the capability that each option provided. I had a few questions and the staff member that assisted me was very well versed in the capability that each option provided. I quickly settled on an amp and was ready to check out when the staff member asked a few other questions regarding what I was most satisfied about with the amp that reignited my desire to play an electric guitar again. After listening intently he said well you should take a minute to play the EVH 5150 100Watt amp they had on the floor. I politely declined but stood there for a minute and said to myself.... Self, you don't have a hair on your rear end if you are unwilling to buy something you absolutely don't need, and do what all manly men do when confronted with the chance to make a completely impulsive decision without any input from what I argue is my better half only when I'm awake and conscious.......I bought it without playing it or having the slightest idea whether I would like it or not but figured hey, I'm not scared of her. No better occasion to get myself in the kind of trouble that a smarter man would pour perfume all over himself and change the subject to hide such an indiscretion. Well I really love the sound and am amazed with every aspect of this amp and will play it for years in the very doghouse that in a twist of irony I purchased to house my last impulsive manifestation and while he now sleeps where I once did. Wouldn't change a thing. Yeah.... Its like that.

Extremely underrated clean amp
25 March 2022

The green (clean) channel on this amp through the 2x12 cabinet is absolutely incredibly. Expressive, responsive, articulate, and full of character.I recently tried out a Divided by 13 LDW amp and was blown away by the clean tone. I had always considered myself a Fender/6V6 person until that point. That amp was already sold, was twice the price, and is impossible to come across. This amp is the only one I could find that has both the EL34s and 12AX7s, and has that same unique clean tone that's somewhere between a Marshall and Fender in all the right ways.I could do without the red channel entirely, and would prefer to have separate eq controls for the green and blue channels, but easy enough to compensate with a tone knob.

Excellent amp. Im just wondering what kind of quality it will have as far as longevity goes? Great tone even dry. The channels are engineered great which provide a way to switch from clean to dirty with no massive volume swell Built solid nothing cheap looking just at first look. I'm into heavier music and this one fits well all around. I think it's a good thing to have something practical Eddie collaborated on. If the quality holds up I'll be getting another one.

I have been looking for something like this for years. Excellent clean, excellent crunch, and excellent drive in one amp. I tried 3 channel amps before, but one channel was always lacking. This delivers. I have a few boutique amps that are great in their own way, but all are 2 channel amps, and to get an over the top drive channel always required a front end boost. There's no need on this. I doubt I'll ever run the gain in any channel over 11 o'clock. When I first plugged it in, I thought it sounded good, but maybe a tad thin through my 112, but then I adjusted the resonance knob on the back, and it came alive. The EQ options on the amp are very flexible, and everything sounds articulate, and tight, with the resonance adding just the right amount of bottom end. The effects loop is footswitchable, and it's transparent. The amp came with a 4 button switch, power cord, a long 1/4" speaker cable to connect the footswitch, and also a speaker cable. I can get great sounds at any volume, so it'll work in a mic'ed cabinet situation, but with enough under the hood to stand on its own. I paid a few hundred dollars under retail for this, because it was listed as used, but I can't find any signs it was used before. All in all, this is the amp I've been looking for my entire life. Any sound from Fenderish clean to Marshall crunch to fire breathing drive sounds, and anywhere in between, at any volume. Thanks EVH, you made an amp for one of the greats, that's great for anyone!

Excellent amp (mind you, you'd expect so for the price!)I purchased due to the ability to midi control the amp channels using my Line 6 Helix HX Effects - this works extremely pain free and sounds so much better than using distortion pedals on board the Helix.Extremely versatile channels - some reviews from metal musicians drag the blue channel through the mud a bit but I don't have any complaints. Independent volume and gain control for all three channels has arrived with the 5150III 50W EL34 head. Experience total control, along with the same lethal looks and ferocious EL34 tone of the 100-Watt head. The EL34 power tubes deliver signature harmonic overtones, with more dynamic compression and saturation that evoke a more modern “British” sound, all with the sustain and versatility expected from EVH 5150III amps. Channel one boasts a more sparkling and compressed clean tone, while channels two and three possess a slightly darker and compressed tone with even more saturation than before. Channels one and two each have dual concentric gain/volume controls, with shared EQ (low, mid, high), while channel 3 has an independent EQ. Other features include a rear-panel resonance control that tailors low-frequency response for all channels and a global presence control. Wrapped in an elegant gold and black EVH motif, the EL34 50-watt head also is equipped with an effects loop, headphone jack, pre-amp out and midi-in.
