Comfortable, warm, and relatively light/compact

We finally splurged on a set of these premium cold weather sleeping pads for our winter camping events with the Boy Scouts. While this company makes one slightly warmer model, it didn't seem worth the relatively substantial extra weight to me. So it was between this model and the slightly less warm yet heavier option from STS, but all 4 of our family members preferred the feel of this pad so we selected our unanimous choice. We have other somewhat less insulated pads by both STS and this manufacturer with which we've been very happy. One nice feature that STS offers that this does not is that the STS stuff sack doubles as the inflation bag. We also would prefer to avoid down, for ethical reasons, but unfortunately its performance per ounce simply cannot be matched ... MoreWe finally splurged on a set of these premium cold weather sleeping pads for our winter camping events with the Boy Scouts. I use this all year round. So warm that I use my sleeping bag as a duvet almost all the time for a comfy sleep. Haven't tried others but I can tell you that this one is with me every time I go overnight. Highly recommended. A bit pricey but what good thing isn't these days. This will give you years of happiness for the price of a couple night of hotel.

Very comfy pad. I wanted to upgrade my Thermarest Neoair to something wider and not as noisy and this was great not noisy at all, easy to blow up with the pump sack also tried a mini air pump and that worked too. I was able to try it out car camping and some back packing down into the 40s I'm a cold sleeper and I was getting a little clammy with this pad using a 55 degree sleeping bag so can't wait to try it in colder weather. The cons it is hard to get back into the stuff sack, every time I had to roll it a couple times before it finally went in properly and it's heavier than my last pad but that's a trade off for the extra width and I'm short wish they would make a short wide pad for us petite people.

Excellent 4 season sleeping pad
6 January 2024

This air pad provides an excellent combination of four season warmth, comfort, and weight in a relatively small packed size. The pump sack is huge and among the most efficient on the market for quick inflation. The vertical baffles work great to prevent sliding sideways off the pad and will lock side sleepers in to their sleeping position. Overall one of the best options for winter backpacking.

Good vendor, good mat
23 November 2023

Exped products speak for themselves. The R value is so high on this unit it's almost too hot for 40-60's that I most commonly encounter in Tx when hunting season kicks off. Very comfortable, quiet, easy to inflate with the included pump bag. And I appreciate Al's as a vendor, for the pad for an excellent price. Will trade with Al's again in the future.

Great Sleeping Pad
22 November 2023

I used this sleeping pad recently on a 77 mile hike on the AT through Shenandoah NP. The first 2 nights were in the 30s and the remainder in low 40s. I am a slide sleeper with some low back issues and this air mattress was great to sleep on. It was quiet and comfortable and IMO, worth the money if you want a good nights sleep. It is a bit heavy, but for me the weight is worth it. The nozzle fits and seals well, it just takes about 5 minutes to inflate once you get the hang of it. It folds back easy and fits back into its stuff sack. It fit nicely in my one man tent with room to spare at the head, food, and sides.

Great sleeping pad!
19 August 2023

This is the second one we have bought in a 5 year period. These are great, my husband has the exped 5 lite one and I kept stealing it. Exped changed their product line up so I think this was the closest to our previous one. Sleep is so important and this for sure makes the cut. I'm 5"7 and did a wide and long for added comfort. It's comfortable and warm. My only gripe about it is it makes more noise when you move around compared to their older version.... minor detail and I still would buy it again.

Less Squeaky!
11 May 2023

I previously bought a huge ExPed air matress. It's very comfy and well insulated but it really squeaks every time I turn over on it..which is a lot of times every night. I go to moto rallies where tents are pretty close together and this was getting to be a bit of an issue. This year, I decided to solve it. I first picked a newer model Exped. When I opened it, it seemed to be made of the same material as the one I have, so I brought it to the Moosejaw store in Chicago. As usual, great folks and they steered me over to their air matresses and let me shop. I ended up with this 7R in normal length and wider, 30" width. It's not as thick. I doubt that it has as high R-values as the Exped I have, but it works just fine. I sleep like a baby on it. It also packs ... MoreI previously bought a huge ExPed air matress. Sleeps comfortable but not dependable
22 February 2024

These pads keep you warm and are very comfortable, but my first one had a pin leak that just progressed even when i tried to intervene on a backpack, and then a catastrophic failure while summiting Kilimanjaro. The pad exploded while doing the Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro. The feathers went everywhere in the tent. it was impossible to clean up the feathers. When we opened the tent, our guide said we looked like chickens from the feathers sticking to us, LOL. I don't make any reviews, but I felt this one was needed.

Still The Best Choice Out There For Any Season Backpacking

We have been using these since 2013 and we still have one in excellent condition where some of the welding that creates the tubes and keeps the down separated hasn't come undone a little bit. And in one case where it did happen within the five year warranty period the Exped rep cheerfully expedited a replacement. I have used these in temperatures where frost forms inside the tent as well as in heat where you just laid on top of your sleeping bag. After a long hard day it is nice to lay on a 3.5" pad inflated to your comfort as it is also if you are weathered in your tent for a couple of days. This new unit complete with repair kit, Schnoozel bag, and stuff sack will weigh in at 32 oz. An inflatable pillow will add about 3.125 oz. and if you get the coupling straps ... MoreWe have been using these since 2013 and we still have one in excellent condition where some of the welding that creates the tubes and keeps the down separated hasn't come undone a little bit. All in all a very warm, quiet, durable and lightweight pad.
