I was a little disappointed as the medium one flew apart as I was using it. i.e. stone separated from the handle. Maybe I wasnt using it correctly but thought they all seemed a bit light weight.

We have a woodworking club in our retirement community. We purchased one of the Rockler forsner bit sharpening kits three years ago. The diamond paddle wore out. The three paddles of various grades of coarseness are significantly better. Should have changed sooner.

Diamond Hone Sharpening Set

Received the set right away and put them all to work sharpening my wood chisels, and I got good results after some work on my new tools. I'm working with soft wood and you need real sharp tools to work that. These stones do a good job, even freehand, to get the sharp edge you need to get clean cuts. They seem to be durable and should last me quite a while. It would be nice to have a bit bigger work area.

Does the trick

I am very happy with these. My knives were incredibly dull and now tomato skins don't give me any problems! It took me quite a bit of work on each blade, but that's my fault for letting them get so bad. I have a 1200 grit whetstone that I finished the blades with after using these. I do think the finest grit might not quite be as fine as it says, I am honestly unsure, but using the stone to finish off at the end was useful. I think I would still be happy if I didn't have the stone too.

Good quality for a good price.

Handles could be a little stiffer. Would give five stars then. Grit is good and matches stated coarsness pretty well. I use mine to keep my hoof knives sharp. I'm a professional farrier and need to touch up my knife and nippers several times per day. Thesefiles make the job easy.

I gave these 3 stars, almost...

I gave these 3 stars, almost went with 2 and could have gone to 4 stars. Do I sound confused? Here’s why: Pros: Very nice price , Work great right out of the box, Small and easy to work with, the overall dimensions allow use in tight spaces . I keep mine hanging on the router table so I can give bits a quick hone prior to use. Cons! this is why I rated it a 3 and almost a 2. The diamond surface just does not last very long. I lubricated {water} prior to every use and always cleaned off residue. As an estimate {very crude one} I put a useful life of a dozen or so touch up of carbide bits before you can noticeably feel the diamond surface has degrade. Will I buy again? Maybe – they are inexpensive and convenient, just wish they held up better.

Had just the one for years which was used for so many different items for different reasons I.e. sharpening, cleaning and bringing well used tools back to life. Only had the one grade all that time, so jumped at the chance to purchase them when I saw the set of 3 available in 3 grades in a handy clear envelope.

Other reviews are misleading

One star for all the reviews giving five stars for durability and sharpening knives, shears, and chisels. I bought these because of claims like “great for knives” or “ my chisel is really sharp” or “ I have a great edge on my shears”. Other claims of long lasting abrasion while sharpening these or similar implements get one star. That has not been experience with one axe and one chisel and done. Only when I came to right this review do I see they’re intended for small bits. Thanks for all the misleading information people. Next time how about just don’t.

These hones are lightweight, easy to use and good quality for the price. They will be coming with me in my travel pack, thus ensuring, that no matter where in the world I am, I will not want for a sharp knife.Thanks guys for supplying this great product..

When used properly, they are great!

They work great. Just take care of them and remember they aren't for sharpening knives. They are for drill bits, router bits, etc. And, most importantly, if you haven't sharpened a bit before, and, even if you have, go online and make sure you know what you're doing. It will make the difference between having a tool (or bit in this case), and a mangled, albeit mildly, piece of metal that looks like a tool.Take the sharpening class at your local Rockler store. Check with them the day before, it's not a popular course (no idea why, it was one of my favorites) so it might just be you and the instructor. You can bring all the tools you own to get sharpened (within reason) and get one on one training in the process.Heads up: Your experience may be different than mine.
