#sweepstakes. I only have used a few colors but have them on my list for next order. I also have the Carbothello and the Gioconda Koh Nor set. The FC compare well with the Carbothello brand. I have noticed that sharpening them is no problem what so ever. They lay over nicely with a medium soft pastel stick like Rembrandt's. There are some nice skin tones available in the FB brand and some more greens little variety in browns. I am planning to order the ultramarine violet, light brown olive and russet in Caran d'ache though to have a full color range because there are times that I just like using the pencils. They also work great with colored pencils and even over watercolor as an underpainting.

I bought the Pitt pastel pencils to participate in an online workshop series. It is my first experience with pastel pencils. They were recommended by the instructor. They are awesome and Dick Blick had them on sale. I wish I would have ordered the set of 60.

Great price compared to competitor. Nice color assortment. I haven't used them for my hobby purpose yet, but have tried them on paper and am impressed. I think these are exactly what I have been looking for. Was shipped quickly. Arrived safely.

I bought some Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper because I couldn't get the same results I was seeing artists get on YouTube tutorials. That made all the difference. It's as if my skill level jumped hugely overnight. I also got some more Faber Castell PITT Pastel pencils after the first batch I bought proved to be so good. They're just about perfect for me. Blick got them to me ahead of schedule and in great shape.
I discovered these pastel pencils while shopping in a local art store for a specific color that my Conte set did not have. I was also looking for a more efficient way to sharpen pastel pencils besides using my Exacto knife. Hint: the small, hand-held sharpeners they sell do not work. I purchased a few pencils that met my needs. I also discovered that the smaller diameter of these pencils fit into my electric sharpener, and, at least at first, had great success sharpening them without breaking. After a few weeks, I have found that I can only sharpen them about halfway before some break. But, it does still save time. The pencils themselves are fantastic. My work, influenced my by graphic design background, requires a lot detail and these pencils are ideal. Plus, the ... I have two sets of pastels I use when creating paintings and portraits, and the Faber-Castell Pitt pencils are the ones I reach for when needing a harder pencil for detail work. Wonderful pigment. I started with a smaller set, but quickly went back to purchase the 60 and singles of several colors I use most.#sweepstakes
I've used Pitt pastel pencils along with Nu pastels on Canson Mi-Tientes, Fisher 400, and now on pastelmat. I like Canson but, of course, it doesn't hold as many layers before the tooth flattens. The textured side will allow for added layers but it doesn't work as well for animal drawings. Love the Fisher 400. Allows for easy blending and many, many layers. Now for the Claire Fontaine pastelmat. It's way too expensive for the quality. It doesn't work as well for semi soft pastels. Very hard to blend. I actually lost the tooth in some areas after not many layers which surprised me. What's also frustrating is that it curls. I can't get it to stay flat. I purchased the 12x16 pad so I could cut it in half to 8x10 but not so fast. It's 1/4" shorter in both directions. ... I purchased the 12x16 pad so I could cut it in half to 8x10 but not so fast. It's 1/4" shorter in both directions. The only thing I like about it is that it doesn't create as much pastel dust. That's probably why it's hard to blend. You really have to have a heavy coating of pastel on the paper to get good blending. I've done many pastel drawings and this one is the most difficult to work with. Waste of money. The blue bird is a quick test piece on pastelmat. The owl is on Fisher 400; the hawk is on Canson Mi-Tientes textured side. Hope this helps.
Excellent product! I now wish I’d bought the entire set. This product deserves its well earned reputation - nothing I have ever bought from Faber Castell is ever a dud. I expected quality and I got it. Not a cheap product, but a very good and long-lasting one.
I love Faber Castell products! I had the set of 12 Pitt Pastels and decided to try out this full set of 60. I've never really used pastel pencils much before preferring to watercolor but I really enjoy using these pastel pencils. The pigment is rich, they don't crumble at all and are very easy to lay down color. Even on not-so-high quality paper, they still do an amazing job! Blick has the best prices too and fast shipping!
I work with soft pastels and some other brands of pastel pencils. These pencils are very hard. If you're looking to layer them over soft pastel sticks, you might not be able to. They layer over my hardest Carré pastels, but once you get beyond Rembrandt-level softness it gets difficult and you're better off using another product. They're great for pastel pieces made with pencils alone, though! I have found that they shine the brightest when I keep them away from the sticks.Another thing to note, that I did not quite expect when purchasing them, is their lightfastness ratings.... These are not rated the same as their colored pencil line, Polychromos. Many colors that are lightfast in the Polychromos line are rated as not being lightfast in this line. Their website ... These are not rated the same as their colored pencil line, Polychromos. Many colors that are lightfast in the Polychromos line are rated as not being lightfast in this line. Their website has a page that discloses the ratings. Only 35 of the 60 pencils have a lightfastness rating of three. Most of the greens and reds are not lightfast. This is something to consider if your work is going to be sold or taken to shows/displayed in areas that have a considerable amount of UV light.Overall, these pencils are okay. They're not quite what I expected, but I do use them and like them. I may look into purchasing from other brands in the future though, to be honest.#sweepstakes
