Our 8-year granddaughter enjoys the slinky feel of Ivan's Hinge as it changes shape and she likes the challenge of matching the cards. She knows that the cards are graded by complexity so she hasn't been frustrated by choosing the higher-level cards, at least not yet! It's satisfying and fun to get it right. It's easy to see how this toy teaches visual-space relationships.

There were so much activity Christmas Day and just not enough time to go lay with the hinge, but the general consensus is it is a great "toy" and one that will get a lot of use for those times when you need something interesting and challenging to do to pass the time.

This product has much potential. However, the materials used to make the toy are too brittle. Also, given current materials, this product should be recommendedfor children 12+ rather than children 8+ due to the extremely gentle handling needed by the product. (
My nine year old daughter has been at me for a couple of years to get her a fidget spinner; as a teacher, I know they are distracting unless used by students who have some sort of attention deficit. However, I recently agreed to visit Fat Brain Toys to look at possibly picking up a fidget cube for her to use while reading at home. We saw the Ivan's Hinge, and she got very excited, so I purchased it - and I am not disappointed. She hasn't been able to put it away and gets excited when she is able to match the provided pattern cards. She enjoys creating her own as well. When we go out for a meal, it is a great (easily transportable) activity that we can do together, in lieu of screen time, which we are trying to get away from. Great purchase!
