This shredder replaced an 11 year old one, which died. I had gotten used to how slow and noisy it had gotten. This new Fellows shredder, despite its low price point, is great! Quiet and quickly crosscuts up to 9 pages. Very pleased.I chose this unit because of the price and operational cycle time. Fellows brand can operate continuously for 5 minutes with a 30 minute cool down. The cheaper off brand shredders can only operate for 3 minutes with a 30 minute break. Fellows must have a better motors.I never oiled or thought of oiling the old shredder. I had frequent jams. Should you buy this shredder, make it a point, and purchase the Fellows brand shredder oil. Excellent home office security shredder

A reasonably priced good powerful shredder. Only criticism is the size of the waste bin which is small and requires frequent emptying to prevent blockage, it has a window for checking contents, necessary because the paper builds up in the centre of the bin and chokes the shredder exit throat, affecting performance especially if shredding large amounts.The bin design has a built-in handle making a wide mouthed bag essential for waste disposal, Lubrication must be carried out regularly.Do not recommend putting a bag inside the bin because of the frequent need to empty. My Previous Fellowes shredder was a little larger but this was discontinued, so any larger size moves into the 'Small Office Category' and higher price range.

Good Deal

I needed a shredder for awhile but put off purchase because of the cost. I bought the cheapest one Walmart had, then read the instructions before I used it and promptly returned it--it just wasn't sturdy enough for my use. I bought the Fellowes shredder and began using it right away. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't really loud, easily shredded 2-3 sheets at time, and my task was completed quickly. This is not made for major jobs, but perfect for home usage.

Good basic shredder

I was looking for an economical shredder to handle about 10 years worth of bills and documents. The Fellowes LX50 looked like it would fit the bill and it did. The shredder is rated for 9 sheets of paper at a time and cross cuts them for added security. The shredder has a security lock for safe operation and a 4.4 gallon shredder basket, which will handle the output of a shredding session. The shredder will handle standard paper with ease and also shreds credit cards or documents with staples.

Good for price range

This is a replace for a previous shredder we had owned for many years therefore it is smaller and lighter than our previous model which had a removable “drawer” with a handle for emptying. While I wasn’t entirely sure about purchasing one with a removable top for emptying, it is actually better than I thought. The side with the Perspex also has a grip which makes it easy to carry and the top is straight forward to remove and replace. We are not heavy users of the shredder which is why we purchased one in this price range however it appears to shred well which is the main thing and isn’t too noisy.

Impressed

I bought this shredder a few days ago and I was skeptical at first because of some of the reviews I read. I'm glad I did. I shredded a 7" high stack of documents, receipts, bills etc... in about 40 minutes. Of course this was not continuous shredding as I paused here and there to unfold the papers making sure to not overload the machine. It never once jammed or stopped working because it overheated. I did shred with no problem 9 sheets of utility bills just to make sure it did what it claims (9-sheets). I'm not sure what these other reviewers are talking about with it not being able to shred more than 3 papers, overheating issues etc.... Are there going to be faulty products, ABSOLUTELY, but don't write a bad review to persuade others not to buy the product just because you cant follow directions.If you don't have the time to sit around and shred paperwork, Id suggest shredding as you go. Its nice and compact and fits nicely in my closet

Only works with 2 sheets

Disappointed that its load is much less than box states. Would never try more than 2 sheets (box says 9), as I did at first and that resulted in jams. Works fine with 2, but takes many sessions. Also, WHERE does the lubricant go? Since it mentions on the box how important it is to use it, seems like the instructions would be included as to where the oil is to go. (After reading other comments, looks like it goes on the blades, but again, this should be stated.)

Recommended home shredder

A straightforward, easy to use and well-constructed home shredder. Just as you would expect from Fellowes this works well and does a good job as long as you stick to the recommended operating time etc. Do not overload with more than about 5 sheets at a time, empty before the shredding basket gets too full and use one of those lubricating / sharpening sheets once a month and this shredder will give you years of faithful service. Well worth the modest price as long as you look after it. All the expected functions are there, forward, reverse and lock do the job.

The worst shredder I’ve ever bought.

This shredder is truly the worst. There are cheaper shredders that perform better than this one. I use this shredder moderately, and it always gets a paper jam. I spend more time trying to clear jams than actually using it. It’s ridiculous. I contacted the manufacturer to complain that it frequently doesn’t shred. Their solution? Add vegetable oil and clear the jam. I regularly clean the bin and oil the shredding mechanism and it’ll work for a little while. And then, boom! Doesn’t shred once again because of another jam. Mind you, I only had it for a couple of months before it started causing me issues. Seriously, buy another shredder. You will be frustrated with how much you have to fix this thing.

On August 26, 2022 I got this paper shredded and a 2 year warranty because i like to shred my mail that has person information. About a month ago it stopped shredding and Walmart recommended me an oil and something else to help sharpen the blades and everything... well nothing worked. Here it is June 1st 2023 and I called Walmart and they said there's nothing they can do. I then find it Walmart was supposed to give me some paper or something to tell me how to call the warranty people to get my money back but since I didn't get it on the day of perchance they won't give me one.I'm giving this paper shredder and Walmart 0 stars because they stuck and now I'm out 60 something.🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
