Fellowes Powershred 425Ci Cross-Cut Shredder

We have had this shredder for many years, it does the job!that's why when we needed a new shredder at a new location we ordered the same make and model. We knew what we were getting, what can I say about a shredder, it shreds !Large capacity, its quite quiet, sits nicely in the corner although it is quite big. We are very happy with this purchase.Would recommend.

This unit is very heavy but is on wheels for easy positioning. It grinds through an impressive amount of paper quickly. It does use a lot of oil and we have started purchasing Canola oil from Costco rather than the small bottles from the manufacturer. The unit is a little noisy and it does use a lot of bags. All in all, it is an excellent unit and we are very happy with it. This is my second unit and I am using it at home rather than a cheap and slow shredder.

425Ci. We replaced an older Fellows model. We shred a lot. I did not purchase from Whitaker Brothers but from one of the clubs. We only had it a couple of days.Pros:-It is not too loud. It certainly is not quiet but the noise level is manageable.-Auto oiling, assuming this works it is a great feature. I think the problems we had with the old shredder was not enough oil. You dump a whole bottle in the shredder at a time. There is an indicator light when the oil gets low.-It is not too massive.-Storage space in door for lubricating oil and the manual-A gauge on the panes lets you know when you put in too much paperCons:-The storage bin is a cardboard box. Our old shredder had a steel frame.-The manual power switch is on the back of the shredder. Why???- The cardboard box is square. I know that 30gal bags are way too small. Someone suggested 45gal bags and I will need to do some experimenting, it may be cheaper to purchase the fellows bags.This is an update: We have tried the Fellows bags and 45 gallon garbage bags - both work well. For now we will probably stick with the Fellows bags since they are a little lighter. Further update, we have been using the the Kirkland Signature Smart Closure Outdoor Lawn 45 gallon Trash Bags, 100 Count and they work well and are inexpensive.

Best Purchase ever

Yes, being in the purchasing industry, we have seen and used many different models and brands of shredder's.In my experience we have come to rely on Fellowes, they are very duriable and reliable from the low to the very high performance! My company for the pass 10 years and enjoyed the 485ci unit, that we purchased another one for a group of10 shared users! Plus today, we just installed the 425ci unit, for HR Dept., use of 10 more shared users! these items are very easy users and very well manufactured! We are very proud of the Fellowes Products!

Great power, makes quick work of shred projects.

Seems to have a lot of power and will grind through many sheets of paper in a single pass. This machine is much easier to shred stacks of documents as the "feed" slot is somewhat more horizontal than other Fellowes machines. I previously had the 225ci. The shredder required the paper to enter more vertical vs the 485Ci that allows more horizontal entry of the paper to be shredded. This may seem like a small detail, but if you are shredding multiple stacks of paper, you can tend to get a sore back with the vertical approach. Negative part is the basket that holds the shredded paper. It is made of cardboard. Even a thin plastic would have been better. I do not imagine that the cardboard box will last long (after 30 days it is already showing wear).

Just like all Fellowes shreders

Works great until it doesn't. Then if you want fix a simple problem by replacing a part, good luck. Nowhere can one find a list of parts, an exploded view or any other way to find either a part, a part number, a part price or where to get a part for Fellowes shredders. Oh, it's easy to find multiple dealers to sell you a new shredder. But, forget about fixing the one you have. I guess Fellowes prefers making a bunch of money off the suckers instead of allowing us to replace a cheap part. I'll go elsewhere for my shredder in the future. Oh, and have a nice day.

Really Best Purchase Ever

We replaced our previous C99i (9 gallon shredder) with a 425i (30 gallon) shredder! Wow, what a difference. The little machine worked great, but not for the size of school we're in. We have a LOT of confidential information that requires shredding! The size of this shredder is much more preferable to an organization of about 60 staff, and you don't have to bend over to use it. Shredding is smooth, quick and efficient and quiet! Couldn't ask for a better shredder - thanks Fellowes!

So Far So Good!

We have had our new shredder for a couple weeks now and it is absolutely fantastic! 12 people share this shredder and it is constantly being used everyday. Everyone loves the sleek design and styling, the ease of use, and the ability to shred cards and CDs. I particularly love the auto-oiling feature and that it came with oil and nice, thick bags that we can easily reorder. It's so much better than our old shredder, people are just finding things to shred so they can use it!

The design is clever because it takes space constraints into account and fits into our small available nook, though it is not a tiny machine. It also is not very loud considering the power it has. I also really like not having to oil the machine often. Once a year or so, I fill it with the oil and then don't have to think about it. One thing i think that should be updated is the box that the shredding is caught in, its cardboard so it if gets dirty you kind of have to live with it. I've used many different shredders in the course of business over the years, both personal and commercial. I recently purchased a pair of 425ci units which replaced a Fellowes C-420C and a competing brand shredder, both which we acquired used. I chose to replace the two with two Fellowes units due to the high performance and reliability we need. With self-oiling, large shred bin, extreme duty, jam-resistant performance from a compact machine, I couldn't ask for more.
