The medal plate under the pickups.. had to be cut to fit into my Fender Bass.. Not a big deal but I was surprised about having to cut them with snippers.
Much better than the ones CBS made in the 70's that always died an early death. It has a nice "throaty" midrange with the tone control rolled back a little.
If youre looking for a vintage P bass sound with punch, this is a great pickup. Sadly Fender discontinued making them a few years ago, so supply is limited. Very easy to install - one hot wire, one ground wire.
More powerful sounding than the original '62. More bottom end. Love the '62, but like these even more. I'm using the recommended .1 uf cap instead of the .047. The tone knob rolls off more off the top end now. Sit's in the mix with the rest of the band perfectly. Definitely my favorite P bass pickup so far!!
I bought these pickups to replace the originals in my 50s reissue. These definitely have a better low end growl. The mids cut well the same. I definitely recommend these as a replacement. You won't be disappointed
l have had a parts P- bass (original 1974 body with a replacement neck) and a non-Fender hot pickup. But after hearing an original 1963 P bass recently I decided that was the sound I need. I installed the Fender Vintage 63 pickups and am glad I made the change. Nice low end and great mids. Just like a P- bass should sound. The instructional diagram is easy to follow and anyone who has done any soldering should have no trouble installing these pickups. If not, or if your old pickup is wired differently, a qualified repair tech should be able to do the job very quickly. Highly recommended.
top quality built. totally silent pickups. perfect. my fender p-bass has an american heavy ash body and maple neck. it produce a punchy highs. i was looking for pickup set that will suppress and cut some of the too-trebley sound. i installed Dimarzio P122. these are excellent pickups, but are not the flavor i wanted. too much highs and too modern in eq and sound color to my taste. since all reviews always point to the Fender Custom Shop pickups as the best upgrade for Precision, i've decided to choose the '63 pickups over the '62. they have a different eq curve. my bet was successful. the p-bass's sounds is now deeper, sweeter, pleasant growl and has a real vintage warmth that i wished to achieve.
