This is a very high quality headlamp and headband. Personally - I had no use for the red lights always included on these things, but I could not be more saisfied with the white LED lights and their many brightness modes that can be selected with a touch.I stepped up to the HM70R to take advantage of the larger Lithium ion battery (21700) size. Yet I am confident that the smaller capacity size (18650) battery powered models made by Fenix are just as good, since they seem to match their components perfectly in all of their products.I like the hidden protected USB charge port and the rotating head mount for perfect aim adjustment of the light on the headband. The headbands are themselves very worthy of notice, being thoughtfully designed for not only longer wear ... Fenix makes top quality LED lighting from the best chips and lenses to focus their beams brighter than you expect, better than you thought posdible, and actually worth the money you pay for it.I bought mine mostly for working on projects where I don't have room for setting up adequate lighting in tighter spaces or a free hand to aim a handheld flashlight. But after trying the HM70R out - I found so many more handy uses for it - flashlights are almost obsolete now.

Only used one day, but it is fantastic. Switched all my lights (headlamp, bike headlight, bike taillight) to Fenix products. Thoughts:+ One huge, simple, responsive button for all functions. Previously had a Black Diamond head lamp before and there were so many functions (red/blue/green/flood light/spot light/intensity/lock) tied to an unresponsive, mushy button. I always had to stop and think what secret series of presses will lead me from one mode into another. This Fenix is so intuitive.+ USB-C charging (even C2C, which a lot of manufacturers apparently fail to implement)+ Headband is really comfortable (non slip silicone strip, reflective, stretchy, top band). Thought heavier weight would make it a bad running light. The top band does a great job managing weight distribution so it's not a problem for running short to medium distances. Like he grey and orange headband contrast, which makes it easy to find on both light and dark surfaces.+ Metal feels so much nicer to use than the usual plastic on headlamps+ Perfect set of options (flood, spot, red, lock, dim to extremely bright). No flashing or colors or other fluff to needlessly cycle through.+ Screw cap closures for charge port and battery are robust. Other lights use some silicone flap that tears off after 2 years and are spongy, so you can't always feel that it's closed without looking (so more at risk of moisture).+ When you long press, the light remembers your spotlight intensity. When you double press, the light does not remember your floodlight/red light selection. I first thought they forgot to add memory to the double press. But since it starts in red light, and does not have memory, it means you'll never double press and get a white floodlight that kills your night vision. Such a thoughtful touch.- Would like option to simultaneously use both flood light for close distance work and spotlight for long distance work.- Would like easier way to add/remove headband. I use this both for running (with headband) and for cycling (without headband but with helmet attachment). Swapping the headband takes a couple minutes each time.- Light seems to not always charge. Last night used it for running ~45 minutes, came back, charged it, but charger was green indicating fully charged, not the expected red charge indicator.- Little concerned that the plastic nub that allows for angle adjusting will wear off over time. Happy that the product has a lifetime warranty so may not be an issue.

I can say with certainty that this light has exceeded my expectations. I did a lot of research leading up to the purchase of the HM70r and had closely considered the HM65r-t due to weight alone.I do a fair amount of backpacking and weight is a very important factor to me. I can say that while this is a heavy lamp the brightness and run time ended the debate. I have used the light for several hikes that lasted into the night since my purchase and have not regretted my decision. In fact others have stated that they can leave their lights off when I have this one on.The users interface adds to the ease of operation. In my opinion, this headlamp pushes the boundaries of the current technology where light output, energy conversion, and energy storage are concerned.

I bought this Fenix HM70R after buying two other brands rechargeable headlamps. Was so dissatisfied with the light output for night fishing etc on the reef flats. This light was highly recommended and boy it did not disappoint. So happy to have purchased this. Wish I knew sooner before buying the other two and coulda saved me a couple hundred bucks. Turbo mode 1600 lumens is awesome. All the other light functions are great. Especially useful is the red light at light. No more vision washout using white light in pitch dark.Easy to charge. Comfy for it weight.Feels like it’s built solid.
The majority of my headlamp use is in winter in very cold temps, and the single large switch I can control while wearing heavy gloves or mitts is an absolute must. I also have the HM60R and I cannot easily operate it while wearing my warmest mitts. The construction quality of both models seems so superior to anything else on the market. Battery life is excellent and illumination in all modes more than meets my requirements. For me, red light is a must for headlamps. I often read using it, and for night photography or viewing a star map, it's indispensable. If Fenix ever makes a more powerful but otherwise identical version of the HM70R I would not be able to resist adding to my Fenix collection.
This is the best headlamp I’ve ever used. It has useful settings: red light, area light and spot light. The area light can be set to illuminate a close area or a wide area. The spotlight is adjustable from low to high. The reflective head band is very noticeable, providing for your safety if you are in a traffic area. I use this headlamp every night while walking my dogs. The headlamp itself is heavier than others that I have used. However, if you properly adjust the head strap, you won’t notice it. I have used it every night for a week and the light is just as strong as it was when it originally charged it.The E-Lite mini flashlight can be easily attached to the head strap on the back of your head. I have purchased Fenix headlamps almost yearly for the past several years. Hands down the best products available. Sturdy build, charged batteries have long use. Once you use one you find out how much nicer it is to have adequate light for any chores you are attending to. I use mine while scroll sawing wood, interior and exterior painting, hand sewing leather, any job even if you think you have enough light. I use mine middle mode and can keep a charge for usually eight hours before needing a charge. Have highly recommended it to friends family and coworkers. Don’t second guess their headlamps, buy one !
The Fenix HM70R is a great light with almost no flaws. I love the capacity of the impressive 5,000 mhA battery that this headlamp takes even with the added weight compared to typical 18650’s. Personally, with properly adjusted straps, I can wear the light all day long during work and not feel fatigue in my neck (23 year old electrician). All and all the modes are great and I love the intensity of each light. The only complaint I have with the actual modes is that the blinking SOS red floodlight pattern seems too sporadic to effectively be noticed at a moments glance. Finally, the CRI index of this headlamp, as far as the floodlight modes are concerned, are nice and neutral but the spotlights are definitely a bit more on the washed out side. This is a very versatile headlamp because it has a focused spot, broad flood, and red light. When you rotate the angle of the light there are detents or clicks which make it very easy to adjust the light with one hand.I like that this light has two flood light settings which is very convenient for lighting up large areas. The lower setting is good when outdoors and just need general lighting to see where you are going. The brighter flood light setting is excellent while working. It lights up a wide area bright enough that you do not have to turn your head to light up the area you are working on.The focused spotlight is great for longer distances and intense lighting needs.I've used this light for walking at night, vehicle repair, server rack work, general work ... However, I can hardly tell the difference and this light is comfortable to wear for extended periods. The silicone in the headband is very helpful for keeping the headlamp from moving. This is the only headlamp that I use now and I highly recommended for anyone looking for a versatile lamp.
I don’t own this light yet, but have done a lot of research and contacted Fenix for clarification. The really GOOD: The neutral color flood light is a great feature where color trueness is important, and it is easier on the eyes in general. The not so good: The website mentions “red flash” in all references to the HM70R, but it is the classic ddd-DDD-ddd S-O-S rather than a simple regular repeating flash. Perhaps not a critical piece of info unless you were using the “red flash” in a situation where you just wanted your presence to be noticed in the dark, but it could be interpreted by some as a distress signal and trigger an emergency response. I would have bought this immediately if it had the simple on-off-on-off regular repeating flash like some of the other ...
