Best Fenix light I've ever bought (and I've bought a few! 🤭😁). Has the best throw of all my lights (looks almost like a long lightsaber 😳), with just enough spill to illuminate the surrounding area. I'm always looking for a beam that goes the farthest, though, when I keep buying Fenix lights, to try different ones out. I don't really care about "spill"/"flood".The only knock I have on this one, is the head. Very tough for EDC; I realized immediately WHY they included a lanyard for your wrist. Like a sword, it's not balanced, because of the head. Head makes it heavy. But the head is what ALSO makes the beam. The best light I have from Fenix, for EDC, is the PD36R Pro. But I DO love this light; it's just awkward, some might say heavy, to carry on patrol. Tiresome on the wrist if you're holding your arm up.

We're very happy Fenix owners of multiple models including two headlamps and smaller flashlights we have owned for many years. The HT18R amazed us with its power and now makes the smaller flashlights, which impressed us when we go them, seem insufficient. The smaller flashlights are fine around the house or walking to the barn but the HT18R simply has no equal. The three power levels are very effective and useful. No need to use full power if you're just walking a path at night but when we want to see what animals might be in the field or the woods behind our house, then the full power illuminates the area with unbelievable brightness. I had a hard time deciding between this light and the HT30R for long throw applications in entertainment venues. I feel like this light was the right solution, it provides a very tight bright beam with enough spill light to give some context lighting around the object you are looking at. While the HT18R has a larger head, it is still a reasonably small and light unit considering its output.I would buy this light again and would suggest it to friends.

I own many Fenix lights. My oldest still use disposable batteries! The quality of these lights is unchanged. This ht18r is solid, and I love the filters. I use the red filter when my dogs are out at night, and it illuminates without glare. The light without filters is fantastically bright, and very focused, like a spotlight. Great quality and value.
Fantastic upgrade! After some research, I found this was the best bang for the buck. It's small, bright, and thanks to it's internal memory, I don't have to cycle through different modes just to get back to the one I prefer!!! It has 4 brightness levels with "turbo" being spectacularly bright! The beam distance is also very impressive. The only negative is the handle heats up a little with turbo on for a bit, but certainly no big deal & may be a good thing in cold weather!
I have been using the HT18 for over a year now. I work on roller coasters so I'm constantly looking at objects from 1 foot away to over 200 feet away. The HT18 has been the best flashlight I've found so far, for my job. It's light, it's bright, its quality built and has held up through the weather and drops and the battery life is great. The small focal beam and long-distance throw are perfect for doing nighttime inspections. The one drawback is that it doesn't have onboard charging. So, when I saw the HT18R come out with onboard charging, brighter with longer throw distance I had to get it. They took my favorite flashlight, made it better and then ruined it. Why they got rid of the side switch for changing beam modes and adopted a 2 button tail switch is baffling. ... MoreI have been using the HT18 for over a year now. Why they got rid of the side switch for changing beam modes and adopted a 2 button tail switch is baffling. For me the button is just too small, and I find myself looking for it instead of just being able to feel for it to change modes. For my job I'm constantly changing the beam modes as I'm walking doing my inspections. The issues with the tail switch might be me and my clumsiness and most like is but I’ve pretty much went back to the HT18 for daily use, hopefully on the next release they will bring back the side mode switch. If they do, I think it will be the perfect flashlight.
I own several Fenix Lights and very happy with every one so far. I bought this one for a friend that likes to hunt. The fit and finish is the usual excellent Fenix quality. The head is a little on the big side but the handle and control buttons are identical to my TK20R which also uses the same LED. When comparing the 2 there is a very noticeable difference in the beam. The HT18R is a much tighter and brighter hot spot with way more range although that's to be expected. If you're looking for a thrower and don't mind the large head this may be the one for you. Fenix does have one with longer range and tighter beam if you don't mind spending about twice as much for an LEP. The HT30R is a great light also.
I own too many Fenix lights, I've lost count of all of them. As with all Fenix lights, the HT18R's quality is second to none. The build is solid. The beam focus is incredible. It is definitely a light saber. The throw distance is long and on par. I've been able to hit my neighbor's house 500 yards away with it specifically to annoy him because he lets his dogs come crap on my driveway frequently. My only dislike with the HT18R is that the red filter is not red light as advertised by the picture's portrayals. The red filter actually gives off orange light, not red. Overall the HT18R is another good light from Fenix which serves it's purpose, focused beam and long throw by not flooding light all around.Minus 1 star for the red filter not giving off red light but ... This flashlight is very bright and the beam is very focused and circular. It is a bit front heavy. Does not get to hot to hold. The holster supplied with this flashlight is not so good. It is not easy to remove and replace the light and the retaining strap is inadequate.Another disconcerting occurrence. When I ordered this a 10% discount was offered if I bought immediately, so I did. Two days latter I received an email stating everything was 20% off. Of course I only received 10% off.
The HT18R fires light farther than I can see. That's what I was looking for in a light. If you need a torch of a light, this is it! I had two night matches last week and had been using the Fenix HM60R headlamp to walk the course of fire before match started. This match had several steel targets at 100-200 yards with flashers when hit. There were "no shoots" mixed in at distance as well. Didn't need the most lumens to find targets and non targets but any distance could have been easy to light up. Very happy with purchase. Will buy more lights.
