A powerful beast.

A cracking sander and polisher that transforms wood from rough to smooth in minutes. Very smooth running, very powerful but using coarse grits it can wander if not held properly. The addition of the outrageously expensive front handle really does make a difference to the handling and control of the very aggressive rotary mode. The Rotex, fitted with the hard rather than soft pad is excellent for edges, leaving them crisp and square, and the ability to change from direct rotary to eccentric drive is superb. Dust collection, connected to a Midi, is unbelievably good and the smooth start motor allows you to start and stop with total control on the work piece. I am so impressed with this sander using Granat abrasives that I have just bought its smaller brother the Rotex ... MoreA cracking sander and polisher that transforms wood from rough to smooth in minutes. An overal feeling of good engineering and great dust extraction so why 4stars instead of 5? Weight! Its heavy, very heavy and although a giant in the world of orbital sanding and dare i say probably the best random orbital sander avalible today its a machine that if used over head or at reach could prove exhausting.

Amazing Performance, Great value
14 March 2016

I always enjoy using Festool products for the first time. Even with very high expectations I had, the Rotex 150 certainly didn't fail to please. The performance is flawless, dust extraction superb, and the finish achievable excellent. Some reviewers comment on the cost of the unit -personally I find Festool products to be both great performance and value. The quality of the r & d that go into the products is really noticeable compared to other manufacturers; they just do what the they set out to do with superb efficiency. Even using the sander as a keen DIYer like myself, I know it will provide an excellent service for years to come.

Dust free sanding
13 November 2015

Having filled the house with dust once too often during prep for decorating a dust free sanding option was explored. Pleased to say that the Rotex has met with approval from SHMBO. Abrasives seem to last a long time too. Additional information can be found online that explains the bewildering range of abrasives available, which only adds to the versatility of this sander. As usual with Festool, well made and quiet. Old orbital and belt sanders now in the "reserve" collection.

Everything in one package
30 January 2019

Been using this now for a couple of week on a range of jobs. Everything from hogging down a rough oak beam (40G Granit in Rotex mode.... wow!) right through to going for a polished finish on my walnut cabinet (through the grits from 180 to 500 in steps...then polishing with buffing fluid on a pad; all in random mode) I've never got near this high gloss finish with anything else.OK, it's not a lightweight, and I've found myself using the handle more than I thought I would. But the dust extraction is unbelievable - you just don't get any escaping material.I guess it's yet another example of getting what you pay for!

It's just a really great orbital... Nothing more.

I give it a 4 out 5 because the price is so high. Okay so here's my thing, I sand and refinish solid wood floors everyday all day long. I have seen videos of supposed contractors who swear up and down they are sanding entire floors down to bare wood with this 6" rotex sander. If they are their time is worthless to them. It's not that powerful. Don't get me wrong I am happy with my purchase it does great at doing what an orbital Palm sander is supposed to do. But don't over hype a product be real. The dust control system is great! The mode selection of random orbital to spinner sanding is genius. The balance and control awesome best orbital I have ever owned. but it's just an orbital. My advice is get this if you care about your work and want a complete well designed ... MoreI give it a 4 out 5 because the price is so high. And as for the sanding papers I haven't tried all of them but the Rubin is not that impressive. I need to do more tests but I believe the Granat maybe a better paper for sanding wood. The Rubin dulls down way too quickly.

Powerful sander
6 October 2021

First "big boy" sander I have owned, what a shock to the system. Power to spare. Have to dial it down as it is too strong. Great dust collection too. Dramatically cut down my sanding time. Does get a bit hot though

Trade quality, large capacity.
16 November 2021

Always a concern when spending large amounts of money that you get value for it. I needed a high capacity sander that will also polish and this fits that bill. It has shortened my sanding time significantly. It is quite heavy and slightly unwieldy when an extractor hose is attached but I have adapted my technique and I wouldn‘t be without this now.
